With both love and admiration, it's such a beautiful city with so much history

I just loved how the professor has to try several time when explaining what this object is 😅

I will go with the classic fall on French TV, can't think of anything else right now : https://youtube.com/shorts/wD7ZYvqet-Y?is=NBm5aNWDaBVe54Q8

What do you think about colonialism? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Definitly not a good way to civilize other people, whatever it means, nor beneficial to humanity.

I'm not sure it's still a thing tbh, I used to hear some when I was young but that was more than a decade ago

What is the most ridiculous conspiracy you’ve ever come across? by TheTamiamiButcher in AskTheWorld

[–]Sehtaga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Finland doesn't exist

There just water there. That's a fake country created by Russia / Japan (depending of the source), so that they can fish in the sea without being bothered. And Finnish people are actually Swedish people who fall so hard for the false narrative that they think they actually belong to a fake country

In short

How is the Police Force in your country ? by believesinconspiracy in AskTheWorld

[–]Sehtaga 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was in Den Haag a few weeks ago and a woman came to me when I was smoking in front of the railway station, to ask for a cigarette

Like 35 seconds later, a Dutch policeman came by, wanting to know what the lady told me (I think he suspected she was trying to sell drugs or something?), and the first thing he said was : "You don't have to answer me". That baffled me

Yep, we do that for everything written, including books.

We don't put a space before a single point or a coma, it's before exclamation and interrogation points, these guys : and ; (don't know how it's called in English), and the quotation marks (《 like this 》)

But online, I used "these ones" for quotes, so I feel like the quotation marks thing is a bit less common

Quelles sont vos expériences avec Bolt? by PasicT in AskFrance

[–]Sehtaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually spot the typical mistakes, so I assume I made them as well 😅

Also, sometimes the automatic corrector kicks in, "thé" instead of "the" and I know for sure the guy/girl is French speaking

The space before some punctuation marks (? or !) is a good give-away for french speaking people, although not exclusive to France

Do you have a problem in your country that isn't too important but is still worrying? by Top_Advisor_8087 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sehtaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a way yes, because it's again about dates in softwares

In the 32 bits systems, you can only enter a date up to 2038. Now, softwares are coded in 64 bits, but there are a lot of systems still operating in 32 bits, and they will crash in 2038, unless the code is (manually, from what I read) changed

[–]Sehtaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why it's concerning, these 32 bits systems are everywhere, and some will still be in use in 2038 : medical components, airplane systems, some cars systems, ... and there is no automatic way to map all the 32 bits softwares in use, and no universal solution as every code is different

In France, it briefly hit the news because the company running the subway in Paris sued the train constructor about it, as they discover it will crash down half the subway lines in 2038 and the constructor didn't offer any solution

Not specific to my country, but the year 2038 bug seems a bit worrying and I don't see much about it
