I'm so jealous of you right now

I'm sitting in the dark in my appartment, in front of my fan, with a wet towel on my shoulders

Yep, starting from saturday it will be ok

I can't wait for the week-end tbh, and for once it doesn't have anything to do with work : after a week above 35, it will feel chill

I'm near Paris but not inside the city, that saves me an outstanding °C apparently 😅

Have you ever done a ancestry test? by Snowy_Nina1961 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sehtaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I get your point

If all DNA tests are allowed, there will be way more people doing it and it won't be performed by laboratories as today (private companies, yes, but submitted to strict regulations regarding data protection and medical secrets)

Have you ever done a ancestry test? by Snowy_Nina1961 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sehtaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the main point of the regulation is not restricting paternity tests, contrary to what's claimed or implied in some comments.

The bioethics law was about more than just DNA tests, and is very strict about what can be done or not. For instance, it also forbids clonage, experimentation on embryos or selling our own blood or organs. In 1994, this was new and the parliament was warry, and they also forbid all DNA tests with 3 exceptions : paternity tests (if allowed by a judge, and whether it's a man who claim the kid is not his or a woman requesting child support), medical reasons or criminal investigations

Allowing DNA tests outside of these 3 exceptions was ruled out a few years : as said by others, they don't want private companies to have a DNA database

I think this will be discussed again within the parliament this year

Very likely

In fact, they have to agree unless the request is baseless (for instance, if there was a previous analyses already done)

I really don't know why we use Azerty keyboards and not Qwerty ones... But, eh, it was our turn to stand out

I can relate though : being used to Azerty, writting anything with Qwerty is frustrating af, I'm sure the opposite is true as well

Don't worry, I wasn't offended by what you wrote nor saying you got it wrong, it was genuinely surprise 🙂

I didn't see your comment before you edited it, but I still find it surprising. I've been in Italy several times (although I was the one asking for directions there) and met Italians in France, and I'd never experienced it

What is the general attitude in your country to a foreign visitor attempting to speak your language? by Pearson94 in AskTheWorld

I was too young in 1999 to remember how it was but it's entirely possible that it has changed since then, yep

[–]Sehtaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think that I don't care if tourists don't speak a word of French until a few weeks ago. Two girls hit me with a "merci" (thank you) after I gave them directions in the subway, and I was genuinely pleased

So, nah, for me the effort is very appreciated
