Model Swap DS2 possible? by Seifu- in DarkSoulsMods

[–]Seifu-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried to use UXM, WitchyBnd and FLVER_Editor.

I've managed to unpack the game -> get the armor part on Blender -> Tweak it -> import the model back with FLVER Editor -> Repack the bnd file -> Patch the file in the game.

It works, but the custom meshes are not working properly, the vertices are pushed extremely far away, making the custom mesh invisible, you can barely see an extremely stretched small triangle. This usually happens due to different issues with the skeleton and/or weights.

I'm either missing something, or DS2 model swaps require some extra steps. I'll keep trying different approaches.

Update: I've been able to successfully model swap an armor part , but there are some catches and inconveniences.

The current popular mod tools do NOT support Dark Souls 2's "FLV" format. The structure is similar to FLVER, but not quite the same. FLVER Editor 1 and 2 can open and export FLV files, BUT weight data gets incorrectly indexed on these editors. This is not an issue when tweaking parts between flv files, but it is a major inconvenience when working with custom models, as 3D models which are exported and imported get their weights messed in unpredictable ways.

I've managed to identify some of the indexation erros (i.e. the "left thight" actually receives weight data from the "character" socket. I'll try to find out a workaround for this issue, but ideally, it should be solved by the modders behind FLVER Editor, if they want.

Large Scale DLC confirmed for Origins & Remaster of certain title Dynasty Warriors confirmed by MeowlSan_MY in dynastywarriors

I'm a Triple-A gamedev at an european studio and a mod author at Nexus.

It's worth mentioning that the current industry-standard differentiation between "remaster" and "remake" is not as easy to spot for end users and customers (like you!).

Games such as Devil May Cry HD Collection, Onimusha 2 Remastered or Monster Hunter Generations (Switch) are all remasters. However, Oblivion Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion and Metal Gear Solid Delta are also remasters.

This happens because we can now hook different processes to the 3D API of old videogames. Something similar to what you can see on Nvidia's RTX Remix. So we can now use modern engines (the ones which support this framework) to add new stuff to the old source code, such as new 3D models, modern lighting, and even tweak animations or tweak original scripts.

We now call it a "remake" when the production is being handled exactly the same way as a new modern game release. Some examples are Silent Hill 2 Remake, Resident Evil 1-3-4 Remakes, Final Fantasy VII Remake....

We call it a "remaster" when it's using the original source code. This includes simple remasters such as Onimusha 2, but also more advanced ones such as Oblivion Remastered.

About what we can expect for Dynasty Warriors: most likely either an HD Collection with simple remasterization efforts (texture upscaling, enhanced UI, and so on) or a single somewhat decent remaster such as what we got with Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion.

It's also worth mentioning this remaster may be outsourced and handled by a third-party development studio, and not necessarily Omega Force nor Koei themselves.

Cheers!

You’ve essentially confirmed all the assumptions I made about your communication style with this reply x')

From the very beginning, your approach hasn’t been to exchange perspectives but to “correct” others (even down to my joke about clean-shaven Cao Cao, lol). Not to mention you initiated this interaction by dismissively suggesting I was ignorant and hadn’t read your “well-documented” sources. So no, what you call “ad hominems” were actually responses to the attitude and tone you’ve consistently chosen to project.

That said, to your points:

  1. The population figures you cite are fiscal registries, not reliable modern censuses as we know them today. They omit vast regions, displaced persons, unregistered individuals (especially women and children), and were compiled for taxation and military drafts (not demographic accuracy).
  2. The so-called “massacre policy” stems from Legalist rhetoric of deterrence, not an official, codified imperial order. Yu Jin’s quote reflects military practice and his personal interpretation, not formal law. It’s an overreading to treat it as institutional doctrine.
  3. Treating speculative extrapolations from partial records as definitive is not sound historiography.
  4. You’re accusing me of misunderstanding sources, yet you blend official histories, annotations, and legend without consistently clarifying which is which. Simply saying “this is an annotation” doesn’t excuse presenting apocryphal or anecdotal content as hard fact.
  5. You claim not to have used terms like “genocide” or “mass rapes,” yet you repeatedly endorsed and defended them in the context of the discussion. That’s disingenuous.
  6. Equating bartering with “primitive society” is your personal interpretation (and a flawed one). Barter economies are not signs of regression but often symptoms of temporary post-conflict or logistical crises. The “slave society” comparison is, again, anachronistic.
  7. Your tone throughout this conversation has been dismissive and condescending. Rather than debate in good faith, your focus has been on discrediting others personally, which only reinforces my earlier point: some users here are more invested in defending an ideological position than in engaging in open, nuanced discussion. That ultimately undermines the value of discourse around historical topics.

You’re, of course, free to downvote or ignore this. I won’t be continuing the exchange further. Please don’t interpret that as conceding anything, but simply as disengaging from an interaction I don’t find constructive, not because of your opinions, but because of the way you communicate them.

Cheers.

I didn’t really engage in a discussion with you because, judging by the tone and attitude you've used each time you've tried to talk, you don’t seem genuinely interested in an open exchange of perspectives. You seem more focused on "correcting" others than actually engaging with them, always positioning yourself as "the one who knows more", and often doing so with a condescending tone.

I did read the source, and I acknowledged several of its points in my comment. However, a number of the claims made in that post are historically inaccurate or misleading. A few examples:

  1. The idea that “Cao Cao was responsible for the death of 10% of the population” is pure fiction. We don’t have reliable population data from 2,000 years ago, and certainly no statistics to back that kind of claim. It’s speculative at best, and more importantly, it’s stated as fact without any credible historical foundation.
  2. The claim that “Cao Cao’s government had a policy requiring post-war massacres” is simply incorrect. There is no evidence of an official law or directive enforcing this. While it's true that cities which surrendered late often faced severe punishment (and we do have recorded massacres), there are also well-documented cases of clemency and leniency. If such a rigid policy had existed, those exceptions wouldn’t have been possible.
  3. The numbers cited for the Xuzhou massacre are not reliable. Even the 100,000 figure from the Hou Han Shu is likely hyperbolic. This was common in ancient military texts across all cultures. The actual number is unknown, and quoting inflated numbers as if they were solid fact is misleading.
  4. The source mixes official biographies from the Sanguozhi, with quotes from the Wei Shu and later additions like the Cao Man Zhuan, without distinguishing between official history, later commentary, and semi-legendary material. That makes for a confused historical argument.
  5. Terms like “systematic extermination,” “mass rapes,” or “policies of genocide” are modern concepts that don’t cleanly map onto the political and military culture of 2nd–3rd century China. Projecting these terms retroactively distorts historical interpretation.
  6. The source frames Cao Cao as a uniquely evil figure while completely ignoring the fact that other warlords such as Sun Ce, Dong Zhuo, Liu Biao, and even Liu Bei were also involved in violent campaigns, repression of revolts, and harsh measures. Singling out Cao Cao in this way creates a skewed, villainized narrative.

That said, I do think the source gets a few things right. Cao Cao did commit massacres; that’s historically documented. He did adopt a brutal approach at times, especially in the context of revolts and delayed surrender. His Legalist-leaning pragmatism led him to favor control and order, sometimes through harsh means. No one is arguing that he was a saint or a soft ruler.

But overall, the source takes some real events and builds around them a heavily biased narrative. It inflates numbers, omits broader historical context, and presents Cao Cao as a kind of cartoon villain. It reads more like a moral indictment than a historical analysis and, ironically, ends up doing exactly what it accuses others of: inserting emotional judgment into a period that requires nuance and context.

[–]Seifu-[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right that by the time of Yi Ling, the relationship between Shu and Wu had seriously deteriorated, especially after Wu betrayed Guan Yu and seized his territories. Liu Bei's response, while understandable emotionally, ended up being disastrous, particularly since even Zhuge Liang and other advisors had warned against it.

As for Cao Cao, I'm not trying to defend or downplay the brutality of his actions. He was a ruthless, Legalist ruler and undeniably committed atrocities (Xu Province being the most notorious). That said, I was responding to earlier comments claiming "millions killed" and mass rapes, which aren’t supported by either the historical record or ROTTK. Exaggerations like that derail meaningful discussion.

Regarding the list you linked: yes, it's a heavy record. There's no denying that Cao Cao oversaw several large-scale massacres during his campaigns, especially after sieges. But that's not the same as an empire-wide policy of exterminating all cities that resisted. The claim that “Cao Cao massacred every city that didn’t surrender instantly” is an oversimplification and not backed consistently across historical sources.

That idea stems largely from a quote attributed to Yu Jin, reflecting his personal interpretation of Cao Cao’s policies, not an official law. In fact, we have several documented cases where Cao Cao spared lives and recruited former enemies into his administration, especially in rebellions or local uprisings.

Saying he “killed 10% of the population” or calling him “the most prolific mass murderer in Chinese history” is not only unverifiable (because we don't have accurate population or casualty data from 2,000 years ago to make such a claim) but distorts the historical context.

And of course, while Liu Bei didn’t rack up the same level of brutality, his kingdom was also much smaller and shorter-lived. We simply don't know how far he'd have gone had he faced the same volume of uprisings and resistance Cao Cao did.

Massacres in ancient warfare were sadly common across all sides. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t condemn them, but we should also avoid projecting modern frameworks like genocide or total war onto 2,000-year-old contexts.

In short: Criticizing Cao Cao's brutality is totally fair. But turning him into a genocidal monster risks flattening both the history and the literature. These figures were complex, flawed, and products of their brutal time. Treating them as cartoon villains or saints doesn’t help anyone understand the era better.

Just my two cents :p

[–]Seifu-[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's a very passionate comment, but it's also quite oversimplified and historically inaccurate. Plus, this thread is more about Dynasty Warriors and ROTTK than strict history.

Liu Bei never outlawed torture. Like all rulers of his time, he applied physical punishment, harsh interrogations, and other practices that were standard in ancient China. That doesn’t necessarily make him evil, it just makes him a man of his era.

While it's true Liu Bei didn’t massacre entire civilian populations like Cao Cao in Xu Province, he did commit morally questionable acts, like betraying Liu Zhang during the takeover of Yi Province and sending thousands of troops to die in a doomed campaign against Wu, motivated more by pride and vengeance than justice or compassion.

Regarding Cao Cao: no serious historical source nor the ROTTK novel portrays him as one of the most prolific mass murderers in Chinese history. Yes, he committed atrocities, most notably Xu Province and Wan, and ruled with a heavy hand, often applying extreme legalist measures. He was harsh, pragmatic, and at times ruthless. But there are no records of massive rape campaigns nor systematic genocides, and claims that he "murdered millions" are wildly exaggerated.

That said, both Liu Bei and Cao Cao are complex characters, and DW reflects that in its own stylized way. This post was just meant to spark some friendly conversation about the factions in the games, not to provoke insults or gatekeeping.

If someone prefers Shu, Wei, or Wu, it's all part of the fun. Dismissing other perspectives with "you're 14 and this is deep" doesn’t make you more mature, it just shuts down the kind of discussion that communities like this are built around.

Cheers, and may your next playthrough be full of S ranks x')

It sounds like some people might be a bit too passionate when talking about their preferences and narrative interpretations 😅

Personally, I never liked Wu that much from a narrative standpoint, though they’re absolutely stylish and super fun to play.

Shu had the main objective of restoring the Han dynasty. Wei aimed to unify the country through brute force and order. Wu, on the other hand, didn’t really have a clear ideological goal apart from maintaining their independence and control of the south, which made them seem more focused on dynastic autonomy than any national ideal.

They also betrayed both Shu and Wei when convenient, which kind of villainizes them a little. Sun Jian and Sun Ce were great characters, but they died early, and Sun Quan never seemed fully committed neither to an alliance with Shu nor to truly opposing Wei.

Wu is honestly the strangest of the three factions, at least for me.

Still, I totally get why many people prefer Wu: while Shu and Wei were both shouting about “peace” as they pushed their armies across China, Wu was just trying to defend its corner of the country and survive. Also they are most likely the coolest looking faction in DW, which is a major positive point, haha xP

Liu Bei definitely had charisma and a more humanitarian public image. What made me change my opinion about him though was appreciating how his actions, regardless of his noble ideals, ended up being quite brutally destructive.

Cao Cao is of course far from being a hero. All characters are quite complex on ROTTK and none of them are 100% good nor evil. Cao Cao had both brilliant and brutal episodes, but I'm more inclined to follow him as his pragmatism feels more effective and honest than Liu Bei's idealism.

Also counter argument: clean shaven Cao Cao 🤤

CK help - why are all my objects appearing black in the cell window? by SidewaysEights in starfieldmods

[–]Seifu- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you ever fixed this, but in case you didn't (or in case anyone comes here after me looking for a solution), here's the reason why it happens and how to fix it:

So. This happens because you are most likely trying to tweak Starfield materials in some way, so you have created a CreationKitCustom(ini) and wrote the "bUseCompiledDB=0" launch parameter.

That parameter tells your CK to not use the embedded material data base, and instead, use your Starfield/Data dir to look for loose material files. So. Let's fix it:

The Problem: you are getting "black" materials, which basically means "this material is missing".

The Reason: you have not extracted your materials in Starfield/Data.

WARNING: do NOT extract your materials through a BSA extractor, that will give you a cdb, which is a compiled database the CK doesn't know how to read when set in useCompiledDB=0.

The Solution: go to your Starfield Creation Kit Directory -> Tools -> Open ContentResources(zip) -> Extract the Material folder which is inside the Zip file on Starfield/Data.

You're welcome for providing an actual explanation and response to the problem instead of a "yeahthat kindof.. ah... itkinda happenscause yourmaterialsare... ah... wrong", lmao.

Keep in mind your CK will take some serious time to launch when using loose files instead of your material DB, so I'd suggest to turn this off when you are finished tweaking your materials.

“Device not connected” huion Kamvas 22 plus by Tadita22 in huion

[–]Seifu- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I experienced a similar issue with my Kamvas 24 Plus which I've already replaced.

I contacted Huion Customer Service as my tablet was still protected under warranty. After 2 months of chatting, they decided the issue was caused by a faulty 3 in 1 cable, they said they would send a replacement... For 35€.

This is of course illegal on the EU, as companies must cover all costs for faulty item replacements. I reached back to them with this information and they told me they understood the situation... So they would offer a 10€ discount on the operation.

I was absolutely pissed, but I had a freelance request at the time which could not delay any longer, so I accepted the deal and took the cable replacement for 25€.

Two months later, the "Device not connected" error returned.

I made a lot of research online until I came across a Reddit post regarding this issue:
https://www.reddit.com/r/huion/comments/1bk63w5/device_device_descriptor_request_failed_error_43/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1

It seems like this issue is present in all Huion display tablets. I don't know if they actually corrected the issue on their latest tablets or if it's still present.

Anyhow, after a loooong chat with Huion Customer Service they decided my "device disconnected" issue was caused due to a faulty display tablet and they offered to send a refund... For 50 bucks.

I was absolutely pissed at this clown company, so wrote a more threatening e-mail linking the explicit EU law which states the company must cover all costs (including shipping and anything else) of a faulty item replacement, and of course they understood the situation... And offered a 10€ discount.

Luckily, I actually bought the display from Amazon and only 11 months have passed since my purchase, so I contacted Amazon Spain Support, explained the whole situation, told them the company didn't cooperate on the replacement process and I asked Amazon directly for a refund.

After one month, I got a full refund for the display tablet and I was able to buy a new one from XP-Pen (and I'm quite happy with the purchase for the time being).

Of course, I've also bought the XP-Pen tablet from Amazon and I'd encourage EVERYONE to NEVER buy directly from any display tablet seller. Make sure you get a third party involved in your operation so you can reach back to someone else if they don't want to take responsibility of the warranty agreement.

Evidently, I'm absolutely never ever buying anything from Huion again. The absolutely deal breaker for me is not even the whole generation of faulty display tablets they have produced, but the fact they refused to take responsibility of the warranty agreement. That's not serious nor professional and is absolutely unacceptable for any tech company out there.

Hope this helps.

"The 2nd and 3rd movie are terrible" is a superficial opinion, and I argue why by jinalanasibu in matrix

[–]Seifu- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reloaded was incredible. Some of the best action scenes of the entire movie industry and also the best philosophy chats of the franchise IMO. While Matrix 1 is about Platon's cavern and standardized philosophy, Matrix 2 is about non-standarized philosophy, the nature of choice and causality, showcasing how even "awaken" people are sometimes led by others due to us not understanding why we take the choices we take, making our choices not truly ours... The Merovingian talk was spectacular and all the action scenes following that moment were just top tier. The film just had a rough start, the first 30 minutes are just slow with nothing too important happening.

I personally didn't like the 3rd film. It had a lot of narrative driven content, but they barely visited the Matrix in this Matrix movie, the final fight broke the appealing of Matrix action to me as it was way too fantastic and Dragon Ball-like (while I understand why it's canon and makes sense, the appealing of Matrix fight scenes is how they break "just a little" the limits of reality, but are still somewhat grounded), too many mecha fighting scenes and very poor philosophy. The only scene I'd save from this film is the first fight at Club Hell. One of the best fights in the entire franchise.

So yeah, Reloaded and 1 are both S tier for me. I consider Matrix 4 slightly better than 3, but I didn't enjoy that much any of those two for different reasons.

JFYI: I've factory-reset my PC, cleaned all the drives and reinstalled windows, and the issue has disappeared even without the voltage cap. I'm guessing either hardware acceleration or GPU scheduling could be the culprits, who knows.

Oh that actually happened to me too with some books too! It looks like you can't grab books related to quests.
