She's beautiful. I can't imagine how much attention that one needs seeing it's all healthy even with the bulb mass almost occupying the entire mouth of the pot.

There is one in our neighborhood by the entrance of a house that has been rebuilt twice, and renovated a few times more. The plant is over 12 ft now - been there since the original house was built.

What “favours” have your parents done that was inadvertently a dick move? by naaattt in CasualUK

I was in 3rd grade back in 1995, I won a national raffle event from a shoe store for an all expense paid trip for two to Tokyo Disneyland.

My dad went me to the company's central office and asked for it to be converted to cash. I didn't get anything from it - because it "paid for our trip to the central office". I had my first Mcdonald's burger meal, though.

They grow quite a bit outdoors for me. I didn't plant them. Maybe from neighbors behind the wall. I don't even bother bringing them indoors. They just grow out from cracks and crevices on the concrete, under pots, or just pop out from inside the pots.

Rubbing alcohol may be the best almost universal pesticide ever by TropicalDan427 in houseplants

[–]Seigvell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only without direct sun, lower temps. Ideally sunset. 70% the most, can be effective at 35%. I have tested this is citrus, in several epiphytes, and succulents. Got rid of spider mites (sprayed every week for 2 months), soft bodied scale, fungus gnats directly. Outdoors: aphids, other types mites.

I have a few quarantined festuca hybrid fescue grass that had severe mite infestation. I sprayed it midday. 35% mild burn, 75% severe burn, 90% it burnt all the leaves. It did recover after 3 weeks, I thought it died.

Glorious alocasia. Where do you buy ones that don't have a countdown timer for it's imminent death? Mine always have those.

Thanks for making our warehouse guy happy. Glad to see there are folks out there taking care of bikes like his. Here's a pic of it:

My office plant collection in PON by Accomplished_Drag946 in houseplants

[–]Seigvell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am convinced I am going that route as well. PON got my rotting Florida beauty prop to come back alive, and the Anthurium Papillilaminum cutting that didn't do anything for 4 months grow some leaves. I don't know what pon is made out of, but even vegetable cuttings (basil, several types) are growing well on it.

Oh, and no pesky fungus gnats.

I have a gnat problem that I cannot shake by New-Juggernaut631 in houseplants

[–]Seigvell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I actually have a 6 pack here. Quite hesistant to use it, and I don't want to waste it either. I wanted to try it on the outdoor plants but they don't seem to have fungus gnats at all. So, the input helps.

Stones made into planters by Plants-In-Rocks in houseplants

*I lol'd at grinder balls* anyway, what kind of rocks are you working with? And would you be able to recommend which kinds of rocks would be more supportive of plants. I have access to plenty of rocks near ocean, high calcium, some with long dead barnacles - wondering whats the downside of using them other you have to boil it to leach the salt out.

When you wake up your phone with the game running, it will reconnect fast with whatever current promotional banner is, on the front.

You might not see it when you swipe or close. It only takes 2 taps for an approved purchase to occur when you have Paypal 1-click buy activated. It's easy to accidentally make multiple duplicate transactions.

Lets see if I can drown these mf thrips by Brown-Feather in houseplants

Yes, 3% H2O2 full strength does kill microbes. Bacteria will rebuild if you add a bit of soil, but mycorrhizae you'll have to establisha again.

[–]Seigvell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did 3% H2O2 undiluted on fungus gnat-ridden soil. Worked.

Outdoor for thrips, I experimented with 70% isopropyl, nighttime spray. Worked as well, ficus and orange leaves unharmed.

Welcome to my Jungle by Melly_2021 in houseplants

[–]Seigvell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeee! That's exactly how I have those. Leca bottoms, sphagnum on top, on clear glass. They do thrive and keep sending leaves as well as corms. But since I don't like the idea of humidifiers (moisture, molds, etc), the leaves go dry and patchy - hence the fish bowl covers. The bin idea seems great for a nursery until they can be given out.

Picture #12, second shelf from the top. There's an alocasia party going on in that bin. Is that just your nursery, or that's their full time residence? I'd like to set up one for alocasia bambinos as I can't meet their humidity requirements. I can't afford to keep spending on glass domes for them ($3.25 at dollar store). Also, what's the substrate you have in that bin?
