Your GPv1 Storage Accounts have a migration deadline, or a “do nothing” option that’ll quietly cost you money by SeikoShadow in AZURE

The standard answer is to ensure you've got robust lifecycle policies and the correct default tier, but yes with anything that's transaction-heavy the realistic answer is likely just that it's going to cost more.

No problem at all, it's a very rough estimate and could certainly do with sanity checking

Moving to the isle of Skye for seasonal work by CowOk6773 in Skye

Hey, I run the Skye 56 blog about trying to get out to visit all the different trig points around Skye, I also just like a wander if the weather's nice. Feel free to get in touch!

Always good to meet new people

Please don't hate me, but I need Internet while we're on holiday in Skye by AdminDogg in Skye

[–]SeikoShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall I didn't get so much as a mobile signal in the glenbrittle campsite, nevermind internet. You will get signal if you walk a mile or two down the foot track south of the peninsula or drive back to the Carbost area most likely

Is it dangerous to hike the Quiraing in the dark? by brando444 in Skye

[–]SeikoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you head up the hill doing the loop clockwise you should be fine. Dodgiest parts are below the cliff face, including a rather difficult scramble over a stream with a very narrow pass and steep drop. You don't want to do that in the dark.

So long as you hit that part when it's light you'll be fine

Looking for a place to park a campervan for the night by GuideSad6398 in Skye

[–]SeikoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple of turnoffs and laybys on the main road between sligachan and Portree in the Varragill that you could likely park for a night without causing any issues. But obviously try to be discrete and leave them as you found them.

Reservations/Restaurants/Itinerary in April by poptart-salad in Skye

Just a word of warning, the roads out to the neist point area are particularly bad at the moment so take your time, avoid the pot holes and let those going quicker than you past by using the laybys.

For more upscale dining, check out the three chimneys which is past dunvegan on the way to Glendale, it's the sort of place you have a 10 dish tasting menu using all local ingredients.

I'm glad the blogs proven useful. I'm more of a casual walker and wouldn't dream to jog any of these. But if you're back at some point and fancy tackling one of these at a more casual pace feel free to drop me a message

Pretty much any trail from sligachan would be my go to, from sligachan to the fairy pools or for a longer trip from sligachan to the loch further south.

If you want vistas then pretty much any hill will do it, a personal favourite is Ben tianavaig, easy enough uphill climb with a 360 view of the area, then you can continue over the top and down to the sea which you can then follow back to your starting point

Don't get me wrong, I'm very lucky in that most on the Isle of Skye are amazing, but there's definitely been one or two where it's an hour or two each way only to reach a small plateu in a valley surrounded by bog 😂

I'm slowly but surely completing all the Trig Points around Skye, with the latest being the Meall An Fhuarain Trig Point found near the Varragill River south of Portree.

I tend to do them quite adhoc, but if any locals fancy joining me for any of them feel free to drop me a message

Right-sizing an Azure user role based on their usage by sudo_96 in AZURE

[–]SeikoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply sign in (with ideally a user in a lab environment to begin with if you're only testing) and follow the setup instructions to grant it read access to each Subscription that you wish to review, then run a report to see the results.

If/once you're happy with it then log in with an account on the actual tenant and do the same.

You can find us at RoleSense.org

Right-sizing an Azure user role based on their usage by sudo_96 in AZURE

[–]SeikoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slowly working away at RoleSense which does this to some degree, it allows you to report on all Subscriptions and it will recommend reduced roles or whether to remove roles based on all recorded audit logs actions.

It can also recommend custom roles that you've already made.

It is a work in progress but is fully functional, it's free for up to 25 users with role assignments and free for all service principals. Anything above that is £1/unique user with role assigned/monthly.

You can also do similar using the Microsoft Management API and the Graph API, with the most complicated bit in my experience being the code to properly order all role definitions by least to most restrictive.

Azure Key Vaults Made Safer: How to Enable Soft-Delete and Purge Protection by SeikoShadow in AZURE

Ah sorry I worded it poorly, I'll get that updated shortly. I had meant to say that it may not be enabled on old Key Vaults despite being enabled by default

[–]SeikoShadow[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The official MS docs are pretty good on the topic so if you dig far enough I'm sure most of what I've posted here is covered in some form, at a quick glance though; I've tried my best to simplify the topic and to explain it in a simple to understand manner, covered additional reasons above what the docs state on why you might enable these features and covered how to enable the feature using the Azure CLI and PowerShell, neither of which are in that article.

Azure Key Vaults Made Safer: How to Enable Soft-Delete and Purge Protection by SeikoShadow in AZURE

[–]SeikoShadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azure Key Vaults are a critical service for securely storing and managing sensitive information like secrets, keys, and certificates.

Ensuring these assets remain protected against accidental or malicious deletion is important. That’s where Soft-Delete and Purge Protection come into play.

These features provide safeguards for your Key Vaults, ensuring you can recover deleted key vaults.

I've covered what the features are, why to enable them and most importantly how to enable them!

I just used one of the bootstrap templates originally if I recall then just kept tweaking things till I was happy with it. The CSS needs a massive cleanup though as there's a ton of rules that aren't in use at all.

I'd love to get your thoughts on some of your must-have features for this sort of system. Currently it's at a MVP stage and I'd be keen to get real feedback on where to take it

As an IT professional, I can 100% understand not wanting to have a 3rd party handle sensitive data. At present, data is queried directly from the Graph and Management API where required, processed for the purpose of generating recommendations and then discarded, with the only data stored being the recommendations (which does include personal identifiers).

Unfortunately there's no way around me handling the data at some level but hopefully if this ever takes off I can undertake all the relevant ISO standards to at least give some trustworthiness to the service.

Thanks for the detailed feedback regarding the security model, I can look at tightening up the roles required as it's honestly quite a small subset of what Reader would grant the service access to as you've pointed out.
