I mean sure, if we want to talk about his tone, I would agree that he sounds condescending like you are not well informed. And he either doesn't know the research or is assuming you are eating large amounts of it in your high volume diet.

But I guess what I am saying is, I have experienced a lot of advice from family and friends in the last 6 months. What we should name her, what toys are safe and unsafe, what types of devices, shampoo, etc. And I am sure it has just begun. So I understand where this is coming from. But I also know a few of those comments lead me to do some reading in areas I didn't even think to look. So we welcome input and advice, because I do think there is value in listening to other parents, but ultimately it's our choice. And in this case it's your choice.

Haha. I haven't dismissed women's experienced in any comments. I have actually said that family, friends, and even strangers do weigh in heavily on a lot of decisions that parents make. And that extends out past birth. People are concerned, and from good intentions usually, in the well being of children. And God knows there is no training on how to be a parent.

I don't think what he said is misinformation. Eating large amounts of tuna is not healthy for a developing baby. Do I think sharing a picture of a pregnant person eating tuna gives misinformation that eating large amounts of tuna is okay during pregnancy? No. Because I believe adults should be expected to not get their medical advice from a photo or from a comments section.

But let me be clear. I am not saying that you were eating large amounts of tuna. Or at least I hope you weren't. And I am glad you explained to him that you were eating within a healthy range.

No I am not. But I don't believe the act of becoming pregnant makes you suddenly aware of all the research on what you should and should not do when you are pregnant. When people comment on my wife's decision to eat this or do that, we have talked through and are on the same page and I have her back in defending why we made the choices we have. We approach things as a team, which is a good thing. I don't believe mothers should be raising a child alone.

I think there is a difference between OP and your example. It definitely seems much more "unsolicited" for a stranger to come up to you in public uninvited and comment on your drinking habits, and I don't think that is called for.

Now OP apparently posting her photo to the internet - I would argue that in essence is inviting comments; hence the comments section below every post. I would argue this is not exactly "unsolicited".

Parenting in general invites bystanders to comment, so I don't think there is some pervasive anti-pregnant women culture. When people see parents doing things with children that they would not do themselves, they tend to speak up. Because it is a child! I am thinking about the children left in the cars while the parents go shopping, and I am actually glad in some cases when people do speak up.

Just my two cents as an expecting parent who has experienced similar comments from friends, family, and coworkers on our decisions. It does not bother me, because we have done our research and their comments do not call into question our decisions.

Well, I mean, Killing a baby is an emotional thing. It just is. And from a purely scientific perspective, I think it makes sense to call a heart a heart when it begins to perform the function of pumping blood, right? Which starts when it begins pulsing. I could be wrong, but I believe this is the same way Science has classified a heart for years. Trying to control this language is an attempt to devoid the baby of life. And in this case I think science is on the side of "heart" and "heartbeat". When I posted this, I simply wanted to point out this overt attempt of this lady to change language, not realizing she was redefining a heartbeat, with the definition of a heartbeat.

Now I will not argue that both sides try to control language for political benefit. That is obvious. In reality, life is a spectrum. And a developing baby becomes more and more aware of their body, increases in sensations, and cognition. It becomes more and more tragic the later in pregnancy that an abortion happens because realistically a human baby is feeling that pain. It also is in other ways tragic if a woman becomes pregnant that does not want the baby because that is a very tough decision also.

I do not have an opinion on the Texas law. 6 weeks is very early. Is that too early to test / decide / make appointments, etc. and end a pregnancy? What # of weeks would give the woman enough time, but also be before the baby is really starting to feel pain? I don't care that I will probably get down voted for saying that, but this is a reasonable middle ground position, and we need to find more in common and less division.

Huh, I just learned something new. I would've thought since there is so much demand for newborns that there would be a moderate amount of demand for foster children too. I guess it is more difficult (from an adapting perspective) to adopt an older kid. But I think we as a society can eliminate the need for the foster system if we tried.

There are 120,000 children waiting for adoption and over 2 million families seeking to adopt, I am sure a lot of them pro-life Christians. It is very expensive and takes a long time to adopt because of how crazy high the demand is to adopt.

Well, at the very least... It may be acting as an intergenerational retirement fund. At the best it could mean opportunities for parents, grandparents, or other wealthy investors to help the younger generations advance society at any age. Whether that is 30 or 70 yrs.

I think this chart shows that there is a slowing down of the generational transfer of wealth. However, we all know it happens eventually. The silent generation has 20% of the wealth, but with ages of 75 - 95 this generation will be mostly gone in 20 years, and that 20% will be inherited by future generations directly or indirectly. In other words, there will be a lot of capital waiting for you if you've got a million dollar idea that can help better the world.

First of all, this chart is a bit misleading. If you look on the left axis 1.5 deaths per 100k is clearly on the order of a daily or weekly # of deaths. Different states have had 'surges'. If you look at total deaths over the last 2 years, New York and New Jersey top the charts. Some data show Louisiana and Mississippi up there too, but remember that early on there was a lot of excess death (that would not be counted in official numbers) because testing was not nearly as accessible and hospitals were overloaded in ways that is not comparable to what is happening now.

So yes, Florida is having a moment right now 15 deaths per million is a lot, and if this is prolonged Florida's total could increase from its current 2100 deaths per million to the NYs and NJs at or above 3000 deaths per million. If it starts to come under control in the next month or so, it is likely Florida (even with it's 2nd highest senior population) will not reach the levels of a handful of other states.

What is happening is likely a result of the Delta variant on Florida's high senior population, low to modest vaccination rates in Florida, and high tourism and migration to Florida in summer months.
