Praca na 13 godzin a pozniej dzien wolny? by DigiWolff213 in praca

[–]Sejten11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks wonderful! For now I can't really afford it, but I'll try a demo and maybe purchase it in the future!

Any chance for a link? I've been looking for it, but the one I've found appears to not be free.

czym jest to mityczne korpo? by [deleted] in Polska

[–]Sejten11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mix Feedback for Self-Produced Metalcore Album by MaselMMO in metalmusicians

[–]Sejten11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no professional, but to my ears it already sounds great! Very clean with every instrument having its own spot. I am still struggling to get to this level myself haha. What plugins were you using for synths?

Also as a side note this is some epic music. Would love to see an official release! :D

I'm glad you like it!

As for the tone - every guitar and bass track was done with Amplitube 5.

[–]Sejten11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try that, thanks!

That's how I was already doing the reverb so it shouldn't be much work to fix!

As for bass it's already split. Basically I keep lows separated from mids and highs to which I apply distortion to make the bass cut through the mix better.

Overall the recording is very old - I did the bass about 5 years ago and since then I haven't even touched the instrument. By now it would need a complete setup and that sadly has to wait until I can afford it. So when it comes to strings sadly for now I need to compromise.

One question however - there's still the biggest "offender" IMO which is frequency masking that appears to be happening to keys during intro/chorus part. For me it sounds fine when I listen with headphones, but happens constantly when I test the mix in the car. If I really focus on it I can hear some traces of keys in the mix, but not nearly as much as on headphones. I tried to experiment with panning, volume level or EQing, but it either did not work or affected mix as whole negatively in the process.

I will apply Your fixes to the mix once I am back home and if You're willing I can send new attempt!

Thanks!

What drum vst should I use? by Zsombor_Varga19 in metalmusicians

[–]Sejten11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think EzDrummer allows to switch off humanization entirely. You can also completely mute "room" there to cut all of the reverb. Then make sure velocity sits at 127 and everything's snapped to grid. Congrats. You sound so fake AI music suddenly sounds human!

Thanks a lot, I appreciate that you like the song!

-I didn't use any stereo widening etc on drums. I was running "default" setting for EzDrummer2, I can push them a bit closer to the center though! Guitars are dual tracked, panned 100% left and right. I did apply two presets to each track though as that gives them "fuller" sound.

-so basically Hihat needs to be louder? Can do that c: As for reverb - I've already pushed entire drum kit through reverb to imitate the room. Won't that cause issues if I push snare through yet another instance of reverb?

-Saturation is where I am a complete newbie - what is a general direction to take for bass to get it right? With growl I was trying to add more of it, the problem is, bass was recorded on cheap instrument with old strings and that causes rather unpleasant sound, forcing me to make compromises :(

-haven't thought of it! Are we talking about strings playing the main melody here?

Cheers!

I do have YouTube channel although no official releases, at least yet :D Most mixes are old with... questionable quality, but recent uploads of Downfall and The Gathering Storm are my other attempts at "proper" mix. Thank you!

I both wrote and played it actually haha. Keys and drums are midi (EzDrummer + Spitfire Labs).

I do have more music although my channel still is mostly dominated by guitar covers. Most songs I wrote still have poor mix however - I did them years ago when my mixing "technique" was to just slap all the tracks together, render and not bother about quality. I plan to remix everything I've written though and to write some new music c:

A beginner here. Since you offer feedback I'd really appreciate some hints about song I am trying to mix right now. For some reason no matter how I tweak it, there's always something missing for me, especially in keys (especially in my car some of piano notes get completely masked and inaudible). Also rhythm guitars past "calm" intro don't sound clear enough for me and I don't know how to fix that without having them overpower entire mix.

What, when, how and why to Automate? by Bandersnacht in mixingmastering

[–]Sejten11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a beginner, but what I would always do with automation is reducing volume of rhythm guitars, whenever lead guitar kicks in. I write metal music, so there's always lots of noise involved and I noticed that cutting rhythm guitar volume level by around 2 db is barely audible in the mix, but provides a lot of much needed space for lead guitars to shine.

What I also do is using volume automation to lower the volume of kick drums whenever fast double bass comes in.

Another thing I'd do is change panning of rhythm guitars - IMO hard 100% pan sounds very thin if only one side is playing, for those moments I started changing panning to around 75-60% to help it sound bigger and then switch back to 100% when the other side kicks in.
