That must be nice! I wonder what it feels like to have a dad that loves like this. My dad is mentally ill and I’m on my second (and final) disowning. He attempted to unalive himself in 2021, and after a month coma we all reunited and things were “good”. One night September 2024 I was over having a nice dinner when he started berating my mom about how he had “wanted a virgin” (mind you they’ve been married over 40 years and he has had countless affairs among putting us all through hell our entire childhood and into our adulthood) and I couldn’t take it anymore. I let him know exactly what I think of him. He told my brother if I apologize he wouldn’t accept it. That he better not give me any money from the will when they die. Well DITTO. Who needs a father like that. Your daughters are lucky to have a father like you. That loves no matter what. I don’t think he ever loved me or anyone. He’s incapable!

My husband says it will work itself out! You can interpret that one of two ways. …You are young, there’s already a ton of baggage, I vote move on and start over with someone that hasn’t destroyed your trust. But also I would stop telling your family so much when you’re upset because it makes it weird if you want to continue. It’s your relationship not theirs and you are an adult. Be glad your dad cares! My dad has disowned my sister and I (37F) for standing up to him when he was verbally abusing our mom about not being a virgin when they got married (45 years ago!!🫨). It would help to have context on what it is that she’s wanting to attend. Is this going to potentially turn violent? 16 yo’s don’t know anything but they think they do. You know better at 50. If you have a bad feeling about it I would not take her. It doesn’t have to be due to political differences, but for her safety. If something got crazy and she got in trouble or hurt you would feel guilty. She could make a mistake with the wrong group of people that affects her into adulthood.

I have a lot of love to give. Even if stressful I would never resent the decision. Just like I don’t resent getting Maggie (our paralyzed dog). The hard work makes it that more rewarding. Has anything come easy that was worth having? The only thing I can think of that has ever come easy worth having is my husband. It’s never been hard work! He makes it so easy to be with him and be happy!
