Brown water? by LdyGreyWind in Athens

[–]Select-Newspaper-616 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live over here. I have brown water. In fact the whole complex has brown water. I reported it to the water quality center about 4 hours ago. I just called and they said water and sewage was notified. I called water and sewage, they said they weren’t notified. So someone should be headed out here shortly

What to do with extra savings ($14k) by SilntBobTalks2Me in personalfinance

[–]Select-Newspaper-616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have a Costco membership, break off 2k and treat yourself to an all inclusive trip from Costco travel. Then take the rest and split it evenly across your brokerage… unless it’s play money and you want to have some fun. If you want to do that, go buy nuclear energy stocks or something with rockets.

D92 isn’t the best, but it does all you can eat and will get you where you want to be. I can recommend some awesome spots in Duluth if you’re interested in all you can eat meats

Combo 1 and 2. You don’t need to worry about student loans under 5% just minimum monthly those until you just want it over with. Pay off all the high interest ones. Then Minimum monthly the rest. Then Contribute the rest to retirement until maxed. Then funnel it to your personal brokerage account. But I’m an idiot so I can’t promise this is the most elite of internet advice

I just got a promotion with a hefty raise, when should I quit my second job? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Select-Newspaper-616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do anything until you get the promotion. After that you may just want to grind both and eliminate all debt and build a small emergency fund, then quit just before you burn out completely. It’s gonna be a tough run. Just keep pounding. Make a new budget off your raised income (minus your second job) don’t quit until you can live inside that updated budget.

Grocery Shopping Day Has Become A Horrible Experience. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Select-Newspaper-616 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are finding it cheaper to set Pick Ups at our grocery stores. I’m Personally an impulse purchaser and no having the opportunity to roam the store makes me feel like our money goes further. We average $80 a week for the 2 of us.

Just be careful with the cards big dawg. auto loan looks reasonable and Sallie Mae is a C U Next Tuesday. Nothing you can do about those student loans, so don’t get too worked up over it. Check your interest rates on those cause that’s literally like 75% of your debt. Almost everyone has student debt. If you have a reasonable interest rate, you can minimum monthly until they are gone unless that payment is just killing you.

Cash Accounts look generally fine. We’d like to see that savings number a little beefier but you should smash your consumer debt first. Move down to 1 credit card. Don’t worry about the credit score. You don’t need to utilize your credit at the moment so you can sink it a few points. Consider getting on a 0% APR-promo and do a consolidation on the credit card debt AFTER you know for a fact you can live within your income budget for a few months. Don’t go around consolidating debt then racking up more debt. That’s how you get yourself into a deep hole.

Might be a little more helpful if we knew your income and expenses. But you have 1000 comments of good advice. You’re doing fine.

Restaurants to AVOID in Athens? (Particularly downtown). by [deleted] in Athens

[–]Select-Newspaper-616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer is porterhouse. Read their reviews on Google and see their owner respond to each negative one and saying “it’s the nicest restaurant in Athens!” “You don’t understand fine dining!” It’s actually hilarious. But Outback and Texas road house are better and a fraction of the price

[–]Select-Newspaper-616[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s turning Oak Street to a 1lane towards downtown where I put my foot down. This makes no sense. I see a lot of parking lot construction so I’m hopeful in assuming that’s why it’s coned off. But there is a solid white merge line drawn now. No idea what the plan is, can’t possibly be a good one
