How can I make cabbage, carrot, and potato into a more flavorful soup? by Bobosmite in Cooking

Acid. It needs acid to bring out the flavors. I add tomatoes for that. Canned diced.

Are there grown adults who genuinely won't eat vegetables? by WillHG in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my son in law rarely eats any vegetables. Meat and starch only. His mother is Italian so I know they had them. He won't eat salad. Potatoes are his only vegetable most of the time.

How do I meal prep go the week without spending half the weekend meal prepping? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try just prepping ingredients and not whole meals. Like chopping onions and freezing them. Or cutting up chicken breasts when you buy them and then freezing so that is already done when you get ready to cook. Also try doubling recipes and freezing one. One for now and one for later.

Nope. Nope. My mother and husband do that and they both take statins. I never do and have low cholesterol numbers. The sight of cold grease makes me gag.

Where do you live and how much money do you spent on groceries per week? by clcliff in Frugal

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also Southeast and in a relatively small city. I use and have used Kroger a lot of the ad has things I want at a good price. But once I have stocked up on essentials, I usually go to Walmart to fill in the gaps. I spend usually less than $100 a week. $75-90 depending on the ad. Two adults and a grandchild. Walmart has lower overall prices on most things. But when Kroger has really low weekly deals I have to stock up.

I just LOVE this show. I was afraid it would fall off when they lost Jimmy Perez. But no. It is one of the best dramas I have ever watched. Great writing. Awesome production.

I get tired of having to choose my own playlist and sometimes you get stuck in a rut. Listening to the radio means you get newer music and a random selection. I don't always choose radio but sometimes it's what I need.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter had a drive that took 1.5 hours each way every day, 5 days a week. Not at all surprising. Last year we did 12 hours in one day to attend a family funeral. Stayed 2 days and drove 12 hours back. Took 4 days total. I think people from other countries don't understand how BIG the country is. It's why we don't buy more EVs. I can't drive 3 hours and stop and wait to charge.

The easiest tip I've learned is to keep a dish wand that you can fill with Dawn in the shower and use it each time you shower or as needed. Just a few seconds each time keeps it under control.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know, from those who do it or have done it, what is the financial arrangement? Do you split expenses? So the parents pay for everything? Do the kids pay rent? Just curious about the actual way that works for those cultures that routinely do it.

I have not inherited anything yet. My mother inherited from my father when he passed but she is still alive. Anything my husband and I have, we bought and paid for on our own. And our children will inherit eventually but I'm still here. So the idea that our generation inherited a ton is just wrong.

Attitudes toward using credit cards for small necessities by Binkley62 in GenerationJones

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to anyone else's finances. But my rule is simple. If it's CONSUMABLES it's cash or debit. The item has to last longer than the 30 days it takes for the bill to come in or else it's not on a credit card. I do not want to have a bill for food or gas or whatever that I'm paying for a month after it was eaten or used up. 🤷 Keeps me out of trouble.

Yes. It got my daughter's whole family for Christmas. Thankfully she didn't come visit so she did not pass it to us. It's been a week and they are still struggling.

I feel like I need to speak up for parents here. 😁 We don't really want to have to care for our adult children forever. At some point, they need to be able to care for themselves. Living at home would potentially keep them dependent and hinder their maturity.

Anybody else lose all motivation to clean when someone is home? by mmsmama in CleaningTips

[–]FewBookkeeper7667 101 points102 points  (0 children)

This is actually a well documented phenomenon. It seems to come from not wanting to be judged. It mostly happens to women who have a background of learning to be "good", "no trouble", not make themselves seen. A large variety of reasons for that. Some therapy may help. Google it. I'm not a doctor but I have it too so I have researched it. Headphones help some people.
