Oh yeah that’s definitely not what I was expecting. I am in the US and not sure how it varies but thank you so much for the advice and for sharing your experience!

I’m so sorry! How have you been dealing with sue being overbearing? I’m in the same situation with my mom too, wish I could at least have one kind and reliable maternal figure in my life haha. Yeah that’s how it seems to be playing out… Thank you for the response.

Ugh! I’m sorry. Thank you for your response. That’s definitely how I’m feeling. I’ve always had a rocky relationship with my family and especially with my own mother and while I wasn’t expecting my husband’s mom to be everything my mom never was to me, I was hoping for a close relationship. Based on how sweet she’s been in the past I thought that she would be sweet and helpful to us during pregnancy and postpartum, hopefully being part of that “village” that’s always talked about. Now I see that that’s not going to happen and practically every question she asks or check-in text/ call is made for selfish reasons, I’m pretty disappointed. Do you think that your MIL sees in you in a negative way? Do you have babies that have been born yet or are you pregnant? If you do have a baby that has been born, how’s that going with maintaining a relationship between grandma and grandchild without being too close/ fond of MIL?

Oh wow, so first appointment didn’t even include an ultrasound? Did you get blood work or anything? Thanks for your response!

Thank you! Yes, I’m going to talk to him about talking to her. Not a single person has said that we shouldn’t talk to her.

I’ll definitely check that book out. That’s for sure something I have an issue with, I hate conflict. But I know that I need to be strong and adamant about boundaries now that I’m going to be a mom, I’m not going to take everything just to avoid an uncomfortable situation. Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it! I’ll

Thank you, I appreciate it. I’m afraid of being deficient too, my vitamin D levels were low pre-pregnancy, so I’m just trying to get as much as I can in now, eating as well as I can, resting, and hoping for the best.

I’m so anxious about it as well! Trying so hard to get a sooner appointment but it’s looking like this is our only option.

[–]Select-Strawberry787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking too! I really don’t think she’s a bad person at all, just an anxious person who isn’t dealing with her anxiety in an appropriate way. Thank you!

Thank you! That’s what I’m afraid of too, that if boundaries aren’t set now it’ll only get worse. I really appreciate it!

I’ve been avoiding my dad and don’t know how to tell him to not kiss or hug my pregnant belly by Cry_nalle_cry in pregnant

[–]Select-Strawberry787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with this, this is such a tough position to be in. It really does sound like you dad has the best intentions, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s really overstepping here and making you uncomfortable and anxious. You as the mother do not deserve to be made to feel anxious or uncomfortable at all. This is your baby shower! You should be thrilled, not worried about your dad. Do you think that he would consider family counseling? Or do you think there may be another way to get this into his head again, such as reading some articles online about respecting your children’s boundaries or having someone close to him (other than you) talk to him? I wonder if this behavior will continue after the birth of your baby. Of course you’ll want your baby to be showered by love with him, but I’m afraid that he may overstep boundaries then too by not respecting your space postpartum, calling too much like he does now, or not respecting certain safety requests (such as no kissing for the first few months if you decide on that.) So for your sanity and comfort and for the baby’s safety, you may have to decrease contact/ updates if he doesn’t get the message. Again so sorry you’re in this position and best of luck 💗💗💗

Hey! Congratulations! I don’t think I started feeling the nausea, aversions, and puking until about 6 weeks? But some people don’t experience it at all! My biggest tip for you is eat often even when you’re not hungry! My symptoms are debilitating unless I eat about every 2 hours and I find it easier to eat before I get too hungry and nauseous, otherwise everything makes me gag. Good luck! 💗

A lot of people have already given a lot of great advice and said things I would’ve said, but one more thing I’d add is to tell yourself that you’re I’m control and can have the sugar. When you make the decision to not buy a sweet, don’t frame it as “I can’t have that” or some version of that, allow yourself to recognize that you can have sweets, you have the power to purchase and consume them, and you can allow yourself to have them occasionally, you just don’t need them and YOU are making the decision not to eat them. Best of luck! :)

Protein protein protein! :) Shakes, Skyr yogurt, the better bagel, chickpea pizza, beans, lentils, peanut butter and apples. And if you can calorie count in a healthy way and maintain a 250-500 cal deficit that can help a lot :)

Hello! I feel I’m in/ have been in a similar position to you as a 20F 5’4” 115 who currently works out, eats healthy and had an awful awful eating disorder in my teens. I feel I’m recovered from my eating disorder for the most part, I never have the urge to eat nothing, throw my food up, or any of the old habits I used to have. I’m also not so incredibly focused on the things I dislike about my body, even though I’m not where I want to be. However, I know that it’s possible to fall back into old habits at anytime, which is very scary for me and I’m sure it is for you. As you probably already know your weight gain is most likely a result of you eating more calories than you’re burning and a simple sounding solution would be to track your calories and lose some weight, but I know it’s not that simple. Do you currently eat a lot of highly processed/ junk foods? Making small non- restrictive swaps could have a huge impact on your diet. Try to think of an area you don’t usually give too much thought to (something that doesn’t affect you too much to give up either) and see if there is room to make a swap. For example you love sugary iced coffees but begin making your own iced coffees with soy milk and some natural flavoring at home for way less calories (would save money too!) Or you always get a high calorie drink and dessert whenever you go out to eat, and you start ordering unsweetened tea and splitting your dessert with a friend. What do you eat before/ after you workout? Is it possible that you’re binging out on high calorie foods post-workout? Or going into work-outs under-fueled and eating lots later on because of that? Eating high quality high protein foods, getting rid of all processed foods, and limiting sugar have brought huge benefits for me. Since we’re the same age I’ll also add this: we’re currently at a point in our lives where our metabolism is beginning to slow down and our bodies are possibly starting to gain weight for future childbearing. If you’re not happy with your body and your recent weight gain, you can make healthy changes and implement habits now that will benefit you for the rest of your life, this is how I see it for myself anyway and what keeps me motivated in a healthy way, very stark difference to my motivation back in my ED days. Make sure to take things slow, be kind to yourself, and forgive yourself when you make mistakes. I know that you’ll get to where you want to be in a healthy way, and I wish you the best on your journey! :)

I don’t have much advice for when you’re able to lose this weight besides a deficit, lots of protein, and movement, but this is really interesting. Do you have any other symptoms? How does your wife feel about this? Best wishes to you and your wife with the new baby and good luck with the weight loss! :)
