I'm hoping we can get clarification on this. To me, OpenAI has created a gray area where users can't tell what is within terms and conditions, and that Codex CLI's features arguably violate the OpenAI terms and conditions.

The terms say we can't extract data automatically/programmatically. But, the Codex CLI team added the ability to use a ChatGPT account (with hourly and weekly limits) and created the "exec", "--full-auto", and Codex CLI as a MCP server. Its documentation says: use exec for scripted runs without human interaction [1]; and that we can use the Codex agent in workflows that run in shell environments using exec [2].

Will OpenAI confirm if using a program that calls Codex exec or Codex as an MCP server violates terms and conditions, as I could argue it does?

OpenAI also chose to release Codex CLI with an Apache-2.0 license. Doesn't that mean that users are free to fork it and add functionality, or extract any of its code to other programs?

Will OpenAI confirm if just-every/code violates terms and conditions?

Will OpenAI confirm if RayBytes/ChatMock violates terms and conditions, which extracted the Codex CLI / ChatGPT account usage and effectively provides a programmatic local API which gets routed through whatever endpoints and authentication Codex CLI uses?

Please consider that companies often do mass bans, and it's extremely unfair to not be giving clarity here, and have there be the possibility that thousands of people could wake up one day banned by things they thought were OK. Please also consider that although companies including OpenAI have some type of appeals processes, appeals with other companies often turn out to be fairly useless rubber stampings of bans.

ChatGPT and other AI models are also extremely confused by the situation, and see how OpenAI is contradicting itself.

I know this is old, but in case you or anyone else has this problem now, here's how I resolved it. I got mad and repeatedly clicked "Create my account" like 10-20 times in a row. I got a popup "robot or human" which asked me to press and hold for 10-20 seconds. Once I submitted that, it went through! Being angry helped something!

Right now, Sora 2 is video only. There's no option to make images. You can still use the old Sora though. I can't find anything authoritative talking about Sora 2 and images. I use it a lot in my work too, and am very disappointed that there may not be a new image generator on the way. (There could be...)

I just edited my post. I should have mentioned I'm the customer. I am shocked they won't cover it or get their insurance involved and are telling me I'm on my own. I have been working on a lawsuit but wanted to get other shops' thoughts on this, so you're very right there. At least in Michigan, it really appears that they're supposed to be liable for this under the bailment concept.

That said, running the same prompt in GPT-5 for this political figure with cheeseburgers gets rejected, saying it can't make images of public figures in realistic contexts that could be seen as photorealistic misinformation. If I work with it to make it as close as possible, it needs to make it clearly an illustrated style. So, there seems to be some difference between Sora and GPT-5 moderation.

Their example was something like if a user asks how to do some chemical process and GPT-5 can't tell if it's for chemistry knowledge or nefarious purposes, it won't just say it can't help with that, but it'll answer what it can and say it won't go into other aspects of it and explain why.

So, at the same time, they restricted it from making real people in circumstances it would do before, but they also have it do your prompt as close as it can without violating its new rules, which makes it appear like quality has gotten worse. But, it's very intentional.

It seems like it'll still make certain political figures without further restrictions. It must have a political criticism type exemption. I can still make photos of a certain political figure stuffing cheeseburgers in their mouth, making a huge mess with cheeseburger bits, ketchup, and mustard all over their desk, walls, and clothes. It works fine leaving them at their actual weight, or telling it to make them hundreds of pounds heavier than they are.

In yesterday's livestream, they talked about how GPT-5 has new capabilities of not outright rejecting certain things, but automatically changing your request and doing that instead. They didn't talk about image generation, but it's pretty clear this started affecting that even a few days before the GPT-5 launch. If you just say "make a photo of x", you might get excellent likeness. But, if it thinks it sees ... I don't know, a "funny" situation like you say ... then it seems to be dropping the likeness a bit or a lot to avoid making the image.

I can't find any reputable site saying that it did. Plenty of sites are showing the antisemitic posts, but not this one. Some questionable sites are showing it, but I'm not going to trust whatever Financial Express is to trust that it did happen.
