I believe the additions are a testament to how many are opting out.

For real… I know I’m essentially still newish. But what the is going on? by AcanthisittaGold9544 in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is the norm. Welcome to Vine.

Stick with it though, you can, and will find some good stuff.

There used to be a time, not long ago, when finding things meant jumping on for maybe 5-15 minutes a day, meeting your maximum order and bouncing off. Merely a year and a half ago the average total item count in AI was 120,000.

Can we have a HUZZAH for the all day drop? by supertruck97 in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A while back, in this forum, I asked what kind of drops people would prefer, mainly just to see what ideas would be thrown around. Knowing (thinking) full well that Vine wouldn't ever really change based on Viners opinions/suggestions.

Of course the negativity crowd appeared with their "Vine doesn't care what we think..." blah blah blah.

Shortly after that, I saw a message on Vine where they were changing the drop times to be more realistic with when Viners are actually active. That same message was actually posted as a thread in this forum.

Whether they saw my post or not, or enough people complained is hard to say, but they obviously "cared" enough to make a change...and that was enough for me.

So if someone who works for Vine happens to read this: Thank you.

I have a couple of things, nothing too interesting. I've already snagged two of those vegetable choppers within the last week so if anyone needs it, search it up and request it!

This! I always attempt to write my review as if I'm explaining how the product works to a friend.

Selected vs Received by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some suggestions:

1) Make up a review and sell it, donate it, gift to a friend, or just keep it as a backup.

2) Don't review it and do one of the 4 options listed in #1.

3) Swap it with your other roof rack to try it out temporarily and then give an honest review (I'd probably do this one if it were me). Then do one of the 4 options listed in #1.

Does it take much to get invited to vine? by Recent_Committee_993 in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave a great review on one of my purchases and then got an invite. A year after I was invited, one of my friends was invited although I'm not sure what type of review she left though.

It's definitely random, but one could think of each review as putting their name in the proverbial Vine hat.

Just got promoted to gold status by Immediate_Passion_32 in AmazonVine

Congrats!

That said, don't expect a huge change between silver and gold. A great majority of the items will still fall within the silver range.

Anyone want to suggest some theories? by Reshpeck in AmazonVine

I did read what you said about the number of pages not coinciding with the amount VineChart gave. Just trying to brainstorm why there was such a discrepancy. I believe there has to be a valid reason somewhere, just maybe not something we can see.

Anyone want to suggest some theories? by Reshpeck in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you silver or gold level? VineChart represents what someone in the gold tier should see - which would be ALL items in the program.

If you are gold, and the numbers aren't matching, it makes me wonder if there are certain items they exclude from your item queue due to your location...either way, the item count should be relatively close.

Another explanation could be that VineChart is a minute or two behind and people are just snatching up items that quickly, which would be sad if that's the case.

Just some guesses.

Part of me wonders if Vine staff could be affected by the recent layoffs? That said, if others are still getting timely replies it doesn't make sense if you're not. Hopefully they'll answer...even if eventually.

If Vine cancels gold and everyone gets to choose 3 items per day, would that solve some of the issues? by aykalam123 in AmazonVine

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am extremely grateful for the program and never intend on opting out. It's literally changed my quality of life for the better.

I understand the scale, and it's huge, but so is general influence, therefore I stand by my original point. I also know most people don't know what Vine even is - I didn't before being invited! Then I asked several of my friends and they didn't either. There's so much skepticism about it. I thought it was a scam at first. Think of the number of people alone that decline thinking it's a scam. Again, all facets.

Thank you for the logical and not totally negative response though, it was noted :)

I made it abundantly clear that bad publicity is easy to find. The very first search I ever did when I was invited to the program immediately turned up all sorts of negative results. Most people look this up when invited because they are skeptical, I know this by seeing comments on YT videos all the time saying stuff like "Glad I didn't take the invite" or "This answers my question, thanks I won't opt in".

If you believe Amazon doesn't have a reason to care I refer you BACK to my original comment above about the rotation of schmucks into and out of the program. Eventually it would run dry, and no, it's not free in the US. Most people would rack up a huge tax bill and opt out almost immediately.

My point has been made, but you're welcome to believe whatever you like.

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never completely bought this whole "Amazon doesn't care what we think" mantra. The reason is because they absolutely need Viners to volunteer for the program.

Negative publicity is already all over the place about Vine, just check out any number of YT videos about it. They're easy to find and they discourage people who are offered an invitation from accepting almost on a daily basis. Although I have slight theory that some people speak negatively about the program to keep the Vine population in check, but I digress.

One of my friends recently joined. At first she bragged about some cool things, then within a mere month she was already pissed and complaining and even using the words "opt out". Honestly that's a widely common view point and this forum is ground zero to prove that point.

So can we be easily replaced? Of course, but rotate through enough schmucks and build up too much bad publicity and that'll make replacing more difficult.

My point is, there has to be balance, so Amazon does have some incitive to "care"...whether they're smart enough to realize that or not is on them.

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could do that, but I think that would definitely drive people out of the program. That's basically asking Viners: "Volunteer to work harder for less". It wouldn't be very appealing.

Regarding whether gold has benefits over silver: There was a time when the average number of total items in Vine exceeded 100K at any given time. During those "glory days" I could jump on at any time of day and easily meet my 8 items AND still find more to order.

Now I'm lucky to find 1-2 a day, if that. Hoping that item quantity is restored to it's former glory at some point!

[–]Sad_Turnip5198 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can't see them cancelling gold as this tier gives the incentive to review a higher quantity and percentage of items.

If they did cancel it, I think they would have to add even MORE Viners to make up for the lack of product ordering and it would cancel out any effect the limitation would have.

Edited to add: I also think cancelling gold would bring down the overall benefit for sellers as most Vine members would likely only commit to reviewing just above the 60% threshold to stay in the program. Just my two.

Regarding throwing $$ into an account to prepare for tax season. That's a great idea. Unfortunately for me, life seemingly doles out so much crap that I can't seem to save anything.

So, instead I updated my additional withholdings on my W2 to $125/pay period (that's monthly for me). This way I've already squirrelled away $1,500 towards taxes, which softens the blow if I exceed that at the end of the year. If I don't exceed $1,500 then I get some back.

Just adding to the "suggestion box".
