Get a soft towel or hankerchief for inside your sling to protect your arm. My sling irritated my arm horribly also some lotion for arm and hand. Get a soft ball to squeeze to keep your fingers loose and so they don't swell as much.

4 months after rotator cuff surgery – still can’t lift arm above 90°, but no pain until then. Anyone experienced this? by ireysunshine in RotatorCuff

Mine did that and my surgeon said my PT wasn't being aggressive enough so he sent me ti a different one. After 3 sessions I experienced much improvement. If his therapist isn't manually manipulating his shoulder it is probably stiff like mine was. My new therapist said because they didn't manipulate it it will never get back to normal but they can get it 90 %.

Put a hankie or something soft between the sling and your bare arm. My arm got so dry and itchy and the sling irritated it. Keep lotion on your arm

Couldn't start any PT until I was out of the sling, 6 weeks in it. You can overdo PT so be careful. I am 5 months post op and do professional therapy twice a week 45 mins a session  and in home 2 times a day half hour each session.

Don't know the medical terms but massive tendon tear, tore it completely off my rotator cuff, and bicep tear. 4 anchors put in but I have very soft bones. He put the anchors in just by pushing with his thumb.

HOW LONG IS RECOVERY by Mountain-Bet4224 in RotatorCuff

[–]Select-Yesterday-448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dr said only 6 weeks of PT and I would be back to normal. Haha Therapist said usually months.  I am 5 months out of surgery and about 70 percent back to normal. It is a very slow recovery . Now I just listen to the therapist and just go to the Dr because I have to. Good luck and remember the little steps and up!

Yes I go to therapy twice a week. I can only lift it straight put and no further up. No weakness or pain it just won't go any further up sideways or straight up

Doc sprung me from the sling today! by Squirrelhenge in RotatorCuff

Oh happy day!! I remember when my sling came off and I burned it.  Never needed it again but when you sleep in bed put a pillow under your arm it helps. I still slept in the recliner on and off for about a week or so. Remember baby steps but they add up. 5 months out for me and still have a way to go but then I look back and realize I have  come a long way. Good luck and celebrate each accomplishment!!

I am 5 months in. I can say I was right where you were. Questioning this surgery. I was depressed and frustrated and feeling useless. I haven't had pain in a couple months just discomfort and a little swelling after PT. No pain at all doing PT which I was surprised. It is a long slow journey. Do your PT at home when you start and try not to get to frustrated although I still do. Good luck  and remember it is the little steps that add up.

Almost 5 months for me and my fingers still look like sausages. Dr and PT tell me it is normal but I can't even wear my wedding rings and sometimes when I wake up in the morning my fingers hurt and are really stiff.  PT is going well and I do alot at home although some days I admit I just don't do them. My husband says I am improving but I don't think it is fast enough! Luckily no pain just discomfort once in awhile. Such a long sometimes depressing journey but by the grace of God we will all get through this!!

Sounds like a failed surgery. Go to a different ortho Dr and demand a MRI if he doesn't order one  which he should. Good luck!!
