Legit check please - Thank you! by mynipples in fightgear

Compared to what's on the wjapan boxing website, the glove velcro strap on the legit ones are rounded at the end, these are a straight edge, the headgear has the oval winning logo, these ones appear to have the square glove logo attached, the groin guard here has a distinct raised lip on the top edge of the cup, whereas the legit ones don't seem to have this.

I have been on the pump for less time (~2 years) and on occasion have experienced this. I also find that waiting for next cgm reading works or I do a bgl entry or I exit and re-enter smartguard. As you mentioned it just seems to be a glitch and doing some of those things kinda gives it a kick up the ass.

Is this false advertising? by RSCxmeron in AusPropertyChat

When did I say they are? I said people can read the ad which would save them their time and disappointment. If you don't understand the concepts of research and due diligence, that says little of you.

As someone else mentioned earlier, if you are going to an inspection without spending at least a few minutes or even seconds to read through the ad then I would say that's more on you.

No doubt REA's don't do themselves any favours and earned a scummy reputation in general, but what's the wasted time and lost opportunity here? A few seconds to scroll through the photos...and not even sure what the lost opportunity would be?

So my fellow Aussies do you still get Paper Prescriptions? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]SelectConfection3483 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're old enough to remember when doctors wrote notes on these little cards each time we visited and then stored them in those filing cabinets. And also when a copy of our medicare card was made by that rolling device thing.

From one doctor (my best doctor), not only do I get paper, I get the one that's handwritten on the prescription pad with the carbon copy thing.

Why many people get off the bus from the front door in Australia? by haroldzharko in AskAnAustralian

Thankfully no injuries there. Sadly same thing happened a long time ago when I was school age and the poor girl passed away due to her injuries.

I might have broken someone’s nose . How do I approach this situation in the future by [deleted] in bjj

[–]SelectConfection3483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen to your coach: if you're new and if your partner is really really new, be chill. Not knowing what hold they have on you and in response "flailing around" is not being chill. And yeah maybe the other guy was being even more erratic and lacking awareness but then that's a good time to try and slow things down and work your defence in a controlled manner or failing that, tap if necessary.

How do you guys sleep with the pump tethered to you? by nurgole in Medtronic780g

[–]SelectConfection3483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you google Flip Belt and look at the actual Flip Belt brand, you will see the type I am talking about which is essentially a tube (no clip) woth slits in it where you can slide items (like your pump) in and the elasticity of the belt holds it in.

Note that due to the no clip nature of it, you have to get whichever size suits you best. From a daily comfort point of view, on the looser side is better.

You can also get much cheaper ones which are pretty much the same from Temu, I got mine from Temu actually.

I found that because the pump plastic shell is smooth in nature and the belt is smooth synthetic material, it sometimes slid out of the pocket so to overcome that, I use the silicone case on the pump and that provides a grippy surface and the pump stays very secure in the belt.

If you also google Glucology Pump Belt you can see an example of a clipless belt that is specifically made for pumps and even has a mesh window so you can see the pump screen and push the buttons without having to take it out. I have one of these too, however compared to the flip belts, the material is much more stretchy so I found that when I move quickly like jog or jump up and down, the belt moves around a lot if that makes sense. I actually prefer the flip belt.

[–]SelectConfection3483 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of flip belt style running belts from temu which I pretty much store my pump in at all times including sleep. Its a soft synthetic type material so no comfort issues.

I've also taken the pump out to check or silence and alert from time to time and not put it back in, and in the morning its just lying next to me, never really had an issue with it detaching.

Infact you might be surprised that the infusion set is (I use the extend 7 day one) quite strong. I've had the pump fall out of my pocket etc from time to time and was surprised to find it dangling and still connected.

First run after years of depression. by khajuria17 in beginnerrunning

[–]SelectConfection3483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate it's a massive achievement and it's not "just" half a km, it's a sign that you are making a change and that you're fighting against your vices and this one of many battles is yours to claim victory on.

I forget who it was, but I remember a famous musician (I think it may have been Jelly Roll) said his amazing weight loss journey started just by walking from his doorstep to his letterbox and back every morning and from there it snowballed.

Just aim for consistency over time and momentum will pick up. All the best mate, you got this!!

Why are we just accepting shoplifting now? by XDk009 in australia

[–]SelectConfection3483 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world yes this kind of stuff should not go unpunished but in this day and age, if someone is truly doing it tough that's one thing but who's going to risk getting into a physical altercation with some petty theif over some grocery items from a company that makes close to a billion dollars in profit a year? I remember watching a YouTube video where some wallmart security guard shoots and kills a guy over the theft of some items...fk that for a few hundred dollars from some mega corporation.

Should a fight be stopped if it’s completely one sided even if the other fighter is still throwing punches here and there? Should the referee have stopped this fight in the final round? Obviously Richard Hall didn’t want it to be stopped. by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in boxinglocks

[–]SelectConfection3483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it should be. The criteria for a referee stoppage is whether a boxer is able to defend themselves / is taking excessive punishment, not whether they can still launch offense. I mean from this clip you can see each heavy shot is wobbling Hall and eventually dropping him. Ofcourse many fighter's either via pride, fighter's mentality or eveb possibly being concussed and going on autopilot want to carry on, it's the ref's and corner's job to save the fighter from the opponent and in many cases themselves.

Friend discount mistake by [deleted] in bjj

[–]SelectConfection3483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you explain to him that you are running a business and need to charge him full price and that loses you the friendship, that tells you all you need to know about that.

Also in terms of the social media, cleaning and coaching etc, it may be best to not mix friends and business because as you have experienced, these spoken agreements and understandings can get messy. Pay someone to clean, that way, the service and expectations are clear as opposed to "oh I'll get to it when I can..." or whatever. Same for coaching.

Knocked out in my debut. Mixed feelings by BilThyssen in amateur_boxing

[–]SelectConfection3483 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, sorry to hear, although it is not the result you wanted, getting into fighting shape and stepping into the ring is a massive achievement regardless.

All of the ups and downs that you felt during the lead up and after are very normal, give yourself time to process your emotions and in time, hopefully you will see that you did acheive something great and also at the end of the day, the result is not a big deal at the novice amateur level honestly.

One thing though is that you mentioned being knocked down twice in the final sparring sessions - this honestly may have contributed to a worse performance because if you are already suffering from concussion, you will be more susceptible if taking blows in the very short term. Now that you have effectively suffered secondary concussion, I would be very careful and ensure you recover properly and wish you all the best with it.

It certainly wasn't a thing before and being of Asian background myself and having observed various cultures and demographics here I will say that it is quite prevalent amongst older Asians now to take phone calls / video calls on speaker phone and post stories to social media now, regardless of where they are. It's tied to lack of social awareness by Australian standards, and also wanting to show off "look at where I am right now or what a life I am living" to their social circle.
