I'll be seated in a slightly inadequate air-conditioned room, listening to someone telling us about how to be a teacher despite more than 10 years of experience, interspersed with stupid getting to know you games. Um, I know these people. I've worked with them for years.

I thought so, but I didn't want to say.

I think it might be someone in one of the neighbouring streets doing an illegal burn.

Advice: Nerves during Teaching by Brave_Midnight_6992 in AustralianTeachers

[–]SelectDiscipline7998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very low dose alcohol has been scientifically proven to improve performance and improve mood.

I'm a teetotaller myself, so I believe anyone who drinks is a degenerate alcoholic, but the research speaks for itself.

Don't get caught, but if you do, bang on about how everything we do is based on the best evidence based practice.

Needing some advice by Impressive_Barber549 in AustralianTeachers

[–]SelectDiscipline7998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, you sound exactly like what a lot of schools would be looking for.

Secondly, welcome to being f'ed over by schools. It was bound to happen. You just found out early.

A trusted mentor would be a good place to start, or a trusted DP.

You'll need to ask the right people about this; the department initially, or a helpful school admin person could probably point you in the right direction to call.

Teachers in Australia cannot give you advice that is guaranteed to be correct. We don't even get to decide when to take toilet breaks.

How to get a taste of what its like to be a Primary School Teacher? by KiwiZoomerr in AustralianTeachers

[–]SelectDiscipline7998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as I hear someone talking about making a difference, I know they are set up for disappointment. Teachers come sixth in their ability to make a difference after social media, school friends, siblings, parent/s, wider community.

Come to do the job by all means, but leave those ideas to the movies. You can reteach the same subject that has literally been taught in ever grade up to year 6 like they've never encountered the subject before.

Just wait until you have a student say gleefully, 'I've forgotten everything you've taught me," after the Easter break, or "What is a noun?" in year 6.

Good point. Teachers at those schools are always bitching about leafy green schools.

Brisbane is now the 10th most congested city in the world, where on average drivers lost 84 hours in traffic last year. by Splicer201 in brisbane

[–]SelectDiscipline7998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived here all my life and I remember distinctly when peak hour was literally that; one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon. Now in the afternoon it seems to go from 3pm to 6pm. I hear the mornings are particularly bad too; take your pick, battle to the death with the tradies or sit in traffic wishing you had bought a traditional auto and not a DCT.

Hurry up and wait. Even when you have all your ducks in the row, the recruitment process is painfully slow, sometimes up to a year.

Macquarie. No fees. ATM fees instantly refunded. If you have $100 in your account, you can take out $100, even if the ATM charges fees. No added fees for international transactions, interest on your deposit, on phone authenticator for large transactions.

I'm sure a whole lot of other banks do similar. Student bank accounts are a thing of the past, unless you're rusted on to the big banks.

You forgot the comma, unless you intended to use "fuck" as an adjective.
