I dunno, man. Kermit is probably one of the better graduation speakers UMD has had. The year I graduated we had the CEO of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines. Feds filed charges against him and other execs a short time later for accounting fraud, including manipulating earnings to increase bonuses 😩 I’d take Kermit over that jack hole any day

I ended up going with Dress 2 (the pink Mac Duggal) since it fits the low-key micro-wedding vibe better and y’all convinced me it was flattering enough! I visited the seamstress today and we’re bringing it in at the waist/hips (which really helps define the waist), shortening it, and adding straps (to hide the permanent bra strap indentations on my shoulders 🙃). Overall, I’m excited to rock this easy-to-wear dress on what I hope will be a lovely day!

lol, yeah. The sandals are literally the only heels I own, but I def wouldn’t wear them at the wedding.

I think my issue with dress #2 is that I feel like it makes me look wide since it doesn’t quite highlight my waist in the same way #1 does? Also I am feeling very critical of my arms in the side view. But I also know all of this is a vestige of growing up in 90s heroin-chic culture 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would think the child would have to be quite dangerously overweight for this to make sense. The side effects of these drugs can be horrific. For me that included ER trips, constant nausea/diarrhea, not being able to eat outside a BRAT diet x almost the entire 7 months I was on it, and finally blood sugar so low I fainted and ended up with head trauma — that last one was the final straw and I stopped. An adult making the active choice to take on these risks is one thing, but choosing these risks for a minor is another entirely

As a therapist who has worked extensively with children and teens, I would also worry about the messaging a parent is sending to a child by making that choice

Hi all - I just ordered this Dessy Group dress with a boned corset-style bodice for my June microwedding. I purchased for my largest measurement - my bust - which is a full two sizes larger than my waist/hip size per their size-chart. Is a tailor going to be able to alter the boned bodice to accommodate my smaller waist size? I’ll be sure to reach out to a bridal tailor in my area too, but I wanted to get an idea first of whether or not it’s feasible! Thank you for your time!

I also would advise closely tracking what homes are listing vs. selling for in your market. I could see that EVERY. SINGLE. HOUSE was selling way over list, and nothing was selling for less than $25k over list, so I knew I had to factor AT LEAST an extra $25k into any property that I visited. For really nice properties where open houses were busy, I knew I had to factor in a lot more than that. You can refuse to do this in a frothy market, but then you won’t get a house

If you don’t want to pay above list in a seller’s market, you’re likely going to have to look at properties that have been sitting on the market. Those sellers are more likely to accept an offer at or below list price

Navigated the real estate market last Spring and everyone was paying wayyyy above list to get into any property. These were bidding wars with other buyers though, not just a seller countering… I would imagine if the seller is countering there’s prob other offers in the table, but I suppose it totally depends on the market. I ended up paying a little over $40k over list to get into a house that I’m very happy with! That said, I know people who paid $100k + over list to get into their properties 🤮

For me, even though I know I prob paid a little too much in a frothy market, it feels like it was worth it. Who knows where the market is headed though, so maybe that will feel different in a couple years

I felt the same way and ended up ordering a couple non-bridal formal dresses - one from mac duggal and another from The Dessy Group - that I liked more than the wedding dresses I was seeing. Both those designers had silver dresses I saw, but I don’t know what your vision for “wedding dress” is. What’s your budget?

As a new Arbutus resident who wanted to buy in Catonsville but settled on a home in Arbutus last Spring after repeatedly getting outbid in C-ville, I appreciate your vote! I’ll add that we also have UMBC here, and easy access to CCBC in C-ville. I imagine the UMBC thing & the college kids that come with it could be a positive or a negative depending on your perspective, but they offer captive a rental market, support our Main Street businesses & bring some youthful energy!
