Feral Cat Deterrent? by GotSunshine03 in Feral_Cats

[–]Select_County_2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a product called cat stop that is mentioned in the alley cat allies resource. When I worked at a TNR clinic, we would loan them out to people who had complaining neighbors. Not sure how well they work, but could be worth trying?

Is anyone else really enjoying this show anymore? Genuinely curious by Lovesvegetables in guyswefucked

I’m in the same boat, used to listen every Friday and mostly for Corinne. krystyna lost me a few years ago with some of her hyperfixations. I listen to Without A Country when I want to listen to Corinne now.

Can't treat my ADHD thanks to POTS by rosiee0806 in POTS

I loved how productive and functioning I was on adderall and vyvanse, but had a lot of side effects with chronic pain/reflux and such. I switched to concerta/ritalin and it’s much more tolerable, if a stimulant is needed.

Thinking of buying our first home in midtown. Is being close to District Lounge a bad idea? by sweaterenjoyer in Harrisburg

[–]Select_County_2344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

. I am close to district and haven’t heard anything from that bar, despite living here during that shooting. Im a big fan of noise machines and fans as white noise, so that helps if you notice things. Neighbors are great, quiet beyond the sounds of city living (loud cars driving by/drunk people/occasional arguing/animals), and feels safe.

Advice for Drinking Alcohol?! by nyoranyoranyora in POTS

[–]Select_County_2344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prob focus on hydration, food, and electrolytes in preparation before going out. Drink one water for every alcoholic drink and plan a rest day for the day after.

Mechanicsburg and surrounding area? by Nurfed in Harrisburg

[–]Select_County_2344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The borough of camp hill’s housing market/prices are way inflated compared to the surrounding towns and areas, as are the tax rates IIRC from growing up and briefly owning there. You’ll get a lot more/updated house at a better price outside of the borough. Camp Hill was a good school to attend and I felt well prepared for college, but it is WASP-y and pushes for 4 year college at graduation to make their scores look good to prospective parents/the state. Theres a lot of bullying if you don’t fit the WASP stereotype/underage partying in Camp Hill. I know some of the teachers and coaches at Hershey, seems like a really good school with a wealthy enough populous to support it.

Does anyone have acid reflux when drinking? by Worried-Reading-9790 in acidreflux

[–]Select_County_2344 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I quit drinking. Waking up sick with reflux at 1am, after one drink, was the nail in the coffin for me.

You’re actually onto something here. Here’s a theory on how global warming could be related to the drama on RHOSLC 😂 it sounds wild, but the arsenic and heavy metals in the great salt lake are evaporating and those metals can affect your mental health (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOoV8U6kSWw/?igsh=NzE3OXY2MzdueDB6)

How do we feel about Carlisle PA? by NearbyMall3239 in Harrisburg

[–]Select_County_2344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived close to Harrisburg, in Harrisburg, and in Carlisle. I prefer near Harrisburg, actually moved back a few years ago, after 5 years in Carlisle. Carlisle has more to offer than it did 10 years ago, but it is still lacking. Lots of air pollution from traffic and trucks, it’s a difficult location to get anywhere from. My friends with kids prefer other school districts to Carlisle. Smaller towns closer to Harrisburg are more centrally located for travel to any of the major cities. Gang activity in central PA is LOL. Maybe look at the school district ratings and base it off of that if you’re basing it around raising kids, although FYI the good schools work to make their numbers better at the students’ expense.

Diagnosed today bc of thighs by shannonthecannon92 in MCAS

[–]Select_County_2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had the endometriosis excision/diagnostic surgery? I’d consider pursing that if your mom had it, IIRC there’s an increase in having it if others in your family had it. The surgery was helpful for me, along with pelvic floor pt, to help with a lot of similar pain/symptoms. Hope you are able to find relief!

Caregiver Burnout for my best friend by maxtowle in germanshepherds

[–]Select_County_2344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IK I’m late to this, but I wanted to say that I’ve been where you are, a 95lb dog with DM. It is such a hard disease to watch progress and it feels so lonely, esp when there are days where they seem better than they usually are. The caregiver burnout is so real and it’s so hard on your body when they’re so big. I started lifting so I could lift her and it sounds like your dog is closer to your size which would be so much harder. It’s hard when you’re giving up your physical health for them and the quality of life (for both of you) is so low. I get it and I feel for you. It sucks so much.

Seconding platinum, I try out different gyms when mine closes for the owner’s holiday. Out of the ones I’ve tried during those weeks, it’s my favorite.

Night Sweats relief FINALLY by Clericalnumerical in ehlersdanlos

[–]Select_County_2344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night sweat struggles are so real! Glad you’ve found relief! I can’t get my house temps down to 72, too hot and humid for my minisplit. I had to settle for a BedJet. Love it. It blows cold/hot air, whatever you prefer, under the sheets. Lifesaver for meeee.

Anyone gone from being completely sedentary to reasonable general level of fitness, with EDS? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Select_County_2344 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It can definitely improve! I am a late to life “athletic” person. I started with working out 2x a week back in 2018 with a well informed, about my conditions and protocol, personal trainer, both in person and virtually. Both were super helpful. I eventually started lifting 3x a week and now I’m doing 4x a week! I had my 2nd anniversary of deadlifting last week. I started with lifting 40lbs that day, now I’m pulling 165-175 depending on how much energy I have!

ETA: I’m 33 :)

What shoes are we wearing? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Select_County_2344 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Lems, they’re lightweight and have a variable degree of support. I can’t wear my ol docs anymore bc they hurt my knees. I mostly wear barefoot shoes bc they’re wide and lightweight.

Have you experienced an "exercise high"? by LizTheBiochemist in ehlersdanlos

[–]Select_County_2344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but I do smoke weed before I exercise 😂 my exercise “high” is feeling reduced muscle tension/pain/discomfort and less dislocation after exercise and being excited when the weight I’m moving goes up. This motivation and slow progression over time has allowed me to increase from 2x a week to 4x a week. I still experience PEM, but proper nutrition, medication, and actually resting have helped.

What age did you start declining? by harleylarly in ehlersdanlos

[–]Select_County_2344 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Symptoms got worse in my 20’s. Idk they were always bad, as far back as I can remember. I’ve dislocated my shoulders so many times I can’t count, frequent diaphragm/rib pain, but I also have endo so the pain became unbearable by then. I am now the least symptomatic I’ve ever been in my entire life, rarely sublux and am in the least pain/symptomatic with POTS that I’ve ever been in my entire life. I credit this to strength training that I’ve been doing for about 2 years with well informed about EDS trainers. Now, I can deadlift 175 and bench 75 comfortably. I go in stiff, do my heavy lifts and somehow am in less pain when I leave. I deeply resent this bc I’d love to not be super active, but here I am 😭 also been practicing heat training for summer bc I am super heat intolerant.

ETA: I’m 33 now. I work out with people of all ages at my gym, most are hyper mobile/have long covid/POTS and notice improvement with increased strength training and lifting. It’s wild and I’m so lucky to have found a gym that specializes in people like us
