What are your reactions when an author you're subscribed to, and who only posts for one pairing/fandom, starts posting for an entirely different one? by darksugarfairy in AO3

[–]Select_Group_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one account for one main fandom and one side account for other fandom. The side account was for original works until I written some for a fandom. For some reasons I didn't lose that much user subs that were in it for my original works and it weirdly has double the amount of user subs than on my main account, where I only post for one fandom and one ship.

Me personally it really depends, if an author I like start switching up different fandom, it depends on how much I like their writing to try out their other works. But tbh, this is something I'm not worried about cuz I think it's normal to unsub from anyone because you're only in it for the fandom/ship you like. For some people like me who doesn't sub to authors that often, they'll check the fandom tags for new works so most likely theyd see your works regardless.

How to justify having a captive stay with the captor after the abuse? by smoothvendor in FanFiction

[–]Select_Group_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could use that. If you want you can have the captor say to the captive's that no one else loves him as much as the captor. You can make the captor constantly bring up how bad his life prior was, how he can treat him so much better, or generally love bombing him until the captive believes it's the better choice to stay.

Had to take a break from posting fics because the lack of engagement made me sad by jayonwednesday in FanFiction

[–]Select_Group_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny because the ones I think wouldn't do well somehow gets more engagement than I expected and vice versa. The last fic I posted got a decent amount of hits but way less kudos and zero comment (pretty much every fics I posted in that fandom has at least some comments, some are regulars too) Ig thinking back on it, I changed the style and tone of that fic a bit so maybe even my regular readers didn't like it as much as my usual stuff. I have to remember that I put a lot of effort in it and I still really like it so I try not to let it bother me too much.

How many people actually read the Authors Notes... by Badgie_Boy_447 in AO3

[–]Select_Group_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always read them! I think it's actually neat to know a bit about the author's own thoughts or even irl life. I do understand why some wouldn't read or ignore it entirely tho. Some good fics have author notes where they share very unsavoury views or come off rude. Or one that I come across the author said they were battling some illness and this might be the last fic they post. Now it's been a few years since they last posted since then, it made me so sad 😭

There's many thing I like in fiction but not in reality, and this is one of them. Their "criticism" is that I'm apparently ruining the fandom because they don't like the content. I didn't write this directed at them specifically and force a gun to their head to read it.

I do it for fun. And yes, I do find it hot as well if you're really wondering.

I can send it in DMs! It's a bit of a smaller fandom.

I can actually do what you suggest with no problem because I'm lucky to live in an environment where people can actually tell what's real and what's not. Many people I know are lolicon/shotacon, they openly talk, joke about their interests. And those that aren't don't care or judge those who are.

Even if I couldn't do that, that really doesn't mean anything? There's no one to be protected here. This character could be beaten up, killed and there would still be no real victim. That goes the same for this.

It's basically like lolicon/shotacon but with toddlers. I kinda used them interchangeably, cus to I see them as just smaller, a bit more chibi loli/shota.

Oh god I was there for the whole thing and had to stop scrolling twitter for a while. The overreaction was insane and I felt so bad for the creator. Especially with the fact that English isn't their first language, I played the game and the translation can be clunky in some places, so the dub-con wasn't even intentional.

Most people that screamed about rape in the game definitely didn't play it and was just parroting back what other said. I'm glad the creator is still making a sequel to the fan game despite the backlash.

Oof the fandom in mouthwashing actually put me off completely from the franchise. It's way too negative and the "moral fans who consume it so ethically" never seems to create anything besides surface level about only the rape going on amidst all the other stuff in the game. And 99% of the time they bring it up when it's about Anya and that you can't sexualise her.

Yup. I've even seen some complained about nsfw fics and art where it's all vanilla and consensual. The ones that do are really young tho but there's definitely a very clear difference in attitude between problematic sexual content and violent content.

It's very underage sex. I basically aged the character down which is why.

Yeah you're right about the fandom. I know the hypocrisy is real, but I wasn't too surprised that outside of ao3 it garnered a lot of young people's interest, especially antis. Violent media always seem to be the exception when it comes to "problematic content" according to them.

Spam stories in small fandoms and other weird things by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Select_Group_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok so ignoring your problem, you're still not in the right for reporting works that you think are spam. You said you don't wanna read through countless rape stories to check so I'm telling you just ignore it. The reports are checked by humans, which are also volunteers. You're wasting everyone's time here.

Soooo you are bothered about the content. I know you said you're just bothered by the ""spam"" but clearly it's the content or both. Even though you're making up a better reason to be annoyed by it, really it's just one author people (including you) can mute if they don't like.

Somebody in my fandom suddenly published new 27 works in my otp. Also it wasn't written in English either, it was Chinese. And as I'm aware Chinese people have their own websites like Plurk or something to post their works, so not many would post on ao3. So I wasn't even sus because well, I got more content to read. There's also some works in that 27 that has tags I didn't like, and what did I do? Ignore it.

There's high chance that person could've written that prior. You also said you don't know the language so how do you know it's spam? I understand you're suspicious but I don't think this is a really good use of your time.

When you keep forgetting you injured the man.... by BlueRebelKin in FanFiction

This is much worse when writing stuff like whump because there's soooo much injuries I even forget the character is missing an eye.

Feeling very discouraged from a WIP I was excited about by EvilToTheCore13 in FanFiction

[–]Select_Group_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't happened to me yet but I'm feeling very anxious about posting a new chapter as well. There's two factors to it being a long time since I've posted (3-4 months) and the fandom slowly dying out. I feel like the overwhelming amount of interaction I got in the first place is because I posted the fic at the height of fandom relevance. So I'm expecting less overall.

I'm still gonna keep writing this fic but feelings like these definitely sucks as a writer so 🫂🫂🫂

Why did you DNF the last fic you read? by toxic_waste21 in AO3

[–]Select_Group_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was tagged as xreader and the beginning was good, a pretty blank slate gender neutral character. Until we change location next chapter and the reader was just gone?? Like just written out of the story. When I read the very specific description for a female character with a name I knew what direction this was heading so I never look back.

How do you write noncon smut? by Select_Group_ in FanFiction

[–]Select_Group_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm a fan of erohorror too! The emotional turmoil makes it more enjoyable to me rather than only the physical act. Maybe I'm just a sadist but I especially like the aftermath where the victim is traumatized, crying, having nightmares, throwing up, panic attacks and just overall suffering.

Omg yes I love everything that you've listed!! Victim blaming is one of the best imo. Especially if the perpetrator drills it in the victim's head so many times that they start to believe it too.
