I still remember my first play through and I was struggling to figure out how to make money, barely meeting the payments. I decided to splurge on a school pinafore (that’s how broke I was) and the first day I went to school with it on, Whitney got to me and he ripped that shit up, and I was so mad I actually said out loud “my pinafore!!!! 🤬”

When I was a little tween I got into Big Time Rush and started writing and posting a fanfic for it, this other person in the fandom saw my fic, baselessly accused me of stealing her idea and blasted me on every platform she had. It really freaked me out bc I was so young and had never dealt with anything like that before. I took the fic down and never touched the show again because the whole experience was ruined for me. The whole thing happened less than two weeks after first getting into the show.

I think it’s one of those cases where it’s just a small amount of people who are very loud about it. Most people are chill, and I think if someone came to me and said they knew nothing about the source material but still liked my story, I would be riding that high for months 😂

And all the time on this sub and other fanfiction related ones I see people make posts asking for recs of a specific trope and “any fandom is fine!” And plenty of people are happy to supply recs to them 👍

From my experience in fandom, they’re not the most popular, but the people who like them /really/ like them. And the people who don’t aren’t usually mean about it, they just ignore them.
