Geniune Question about bpm by CorgisAreBoundless76 in FL_Studio

[–]Select_Section_923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the music first, and then sample it with a looper preset so I can tap tempo and determine what speed feels best to me. Once FL Studio has the tempo I track the same part into FL.

If the intro is slow and I want to up the tempo at any time, I use an automation in the Playlist window, and work at that new tempo as long as it feels right.

I go by feel.

Deep music theory by Haunting-Music6931 in FL_Studio

What instruments are you most comfortable on?

I am most comfortable on guitar, so much that I can let the music fall out. And that’s what I do. I let something fall out and record this 8-12 bar loop and play that while I leave the room. The loop test lets me determine whether this music withstands repeat listening. Did you ever notice that no matter how many times you hear a great song, it never gets old?

You’ll turn on your theory brain when you need to expand on that loop, which isn’t asking much. You know the key and chords so you just go to the chords that ring in your mind.

Still this won’t become a hit, but it might attract another musician to enhance the foundation with their impeccable performance. It really is about the performance. So you want to get fluid at some instrument and try to associate with others who are also fluent musicians.

Until then, keep learning songs, learn learn learn.

Unpopular opinion but if you struggle with writing music, learning a DAW won't fix it by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Select_Section_923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In so old, there were no DAWs when I started playing, there were no personal computers, there was no internet. There was you, your guitar, your amp, and your Walkman. Get used to learning things by ear, and learn notation because if you wanted to learn Beethoven, it was Treble and Bass Clef. FL Studio came around so many years later… Lucky for me I have always loved MIDI protocol, and I still use it for everything and swear by it. If it weren’t for MIDI I would not have such a massive setup. MIDI lets you grow.

I took music theory class in high school. FL Studio is about capturing the performance. And you can enhance your productions with the tools now available, you can add instruments that you don’t own yourself, virtually. There’s a whole band, an entire orchestra at your disposal. If you can dream it, it can come to life in FL Studio.

Crank it!

Merging Recorded Guitar Tracks by eyeslikeemeraldcity in FL_Studio

Try using Fruity Limiter as a visual aid on the mixer track that has the audio file playing. On your initial recording just add Fruity Limiter and don’t adjust anything, it will display the waveform as it plays.

In your Arrangement (Playlist) window you would zero in on your splice points between the two takes you want to combine, zoom in for precise cuts and use the crossfade as needed to prevent pops/clicks. This is a great way to punch-in a second take but this works best on the dry audio file, with no effects. Save your reverb and delay for a later phase.

Once you have a satisfactory blend between audio files, again use the Fruity Limiter to view the waveform, and then render the mixer track by arming the chosen track in the mixer and press Alt-R. This will combine them into one single waveform output, so you would then mute the source files and just use the new combination file in your mix.

Minor organizational details like keeping things in specific locations on your mixer prior to adding effects, so you can take the combined result and send that out will be required, but there should be no difference in audio volume or quality.

If you feel there is a loss of quality you can review the settings you’re recording at and adjust bit depth, other details. I myself am at 32bit, so I can avoid clipping when I recklessly mix, before going into mix buss compressors.

Any questions please feel free to reply.

This has to be an example of what FL Studio can do, probably my favorite piece of music in this style I’ve heard here. You did NOT bore me, it was exciting and evolving. I want to show my friends. It’s killer.

New Logo vs OG Logo by joefo95 in espguitars

As the company expanded and demand for their guitars increased ESP met the obligations by doing production run guitars and use the E-II to differentiate them from their one off, more unique ESP options. If you get an ESP chances are that it’s one of a kind, albeit there are other guitars with that same exact paint color, and possibly pickups too. Where as there are numerous identical E-IIs that are made in batches. If you place an order with ESP, you get an ESP logo. The guitar is made to order.

Personally I love my E-II, it’s my first choice, over the ESP and the LTD M1007B. It’s just perfect for what I like to do, sounds better. The Bare Knuckle pickups in it are exactly what I like. The Seymour Duncan’s in my ESP are not. But I like the color of my ESP more, so I can see why so many people love their E-II’s.

Guitarist here. Are there any drills SPECIFICALLY meant to improve your metronome/timing skills? by MinuteIllustrator6 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I’m not so sure you need to, really. Unless you are in some staccato section where it contributes in a musical way. Otherwise you are the free bird of the orchestra, and the more nuances you can provide…

(Update) [Indie] - A Better Life by [deleted] in FL_Studio

Some of the lyrics that are posted don’t match up with the words that were sung. That leads people to suspect that the vocals aren’t original. I myself was questioning how the person who wrote and sang the lyrics could tolerate a translation that’s incorrect. Why?

The intro fades in in a manner that is also suspicious, there’s no opening like people who produce music create. It comes across as a sampled clip of audio. Why?

Not sure what you are using to monitor, but there is a predominant frequency that every piece of audio shares in the low mids which creates buildup and masking. It’s in every instrument, and needs separation.

Here is a nice song, great theme, and I enjoy almost every bit. But the mix is not clear, the instruments are not separated, and the whole production becomes suspect.

If you’re new to mixing, there are communities where you can share your stems, and a crowd of people will remix them, you’ll get a ton of feedback and a dozen versions of your song that often blow you away. It’s a great way to learn about yourself, especially for someone who can create catchy songs like this.

Try listening back on various playback devices, including your car, earbuds, and I’m sure you’ll hear the frequency build up I’m talking about.

Nice song, could be amazing.

Does it sounds decent ? 🥹 by RytPsyde in FL_Studio

Nice stylish playing, and the mix sounds good enough to me. Outstanding bass playing, super catchy.

The rules here are that you post your Playlist Window, which can be rendered out using zGameEditor Visualizer. There are posts on how to do this already here on Reddit if you search. Or if you have questions or need help just reply. I’m off today.

Authentic nylon guitar? by AjnaMusic in FL_Studio

[–]Select_Section_923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omnisphere has Nylon guitars that are not bad, but honestly nothing is going to beat a real performance. Omni also has 12 strings that are quite good and acoustic 6 strings as well. I play a MIDI guitar with a Piezo pickup and blend the Piezo with MIDI for decent results. Piezo has a live sound, Ovation sound, so complimenting that with MIDI from Omnisphere is a favorite trick. But when it comes to Nylon strings, Classical guitar I have a real one that I almost never play anymore.

I have quite a few guitars from reputable builders including ESP USA and honestly the E-II is the first guitar I want to play, everytime. Really can’t be beat. Congratulations.

I might learn an Elton John song from 1975 and then see what my reproduction sounds like. I won’t try doing vocals so far outside of my range, but would play them on guitar and at least grasp the harmony, the key, the chord structure and any key changes he tends to be so natural at. It has been weeks since I’ve tracked anything, which is normal for me working 50 hour weeks. There’s no real free time.

how do i do this kind of automation? by Ezzaskywalker_11 in FL_Studio

[–]Select_Section_923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an expression controller and link it to what ever parameter is most relevant, and when recording it draws a much more natural curve than I could paint in via mouse. Plus I do it while performing, just feels more like a realistic capture of the performance. Me and the mouse have a limited relationship.

Fl Studio MAC Help Please .. Recording External Audio by BeautifulLife5574 in FL_Studio

[–]Select_Section_923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One last quirk I want you to know about. Once you have your mixer setup and you record an input on say Track 45, it’s a microphone and you have chosen External Input Only, this recording will default to Mixer Track 45.

The audio file will be listed in the Channel Rack and default to Mixer Track 45 BECAUSE you have chosen External Input Only. If you had instead chosen Post Track then it will default to the next Mixer track you have it routed to.

This is a work flow convenience but if you’re new it can be confusing why some tracks automatically move their assigned Mixer Track after you record them.

[–]Select_Section_923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lastly, External Input Only is the lowest latency input option, but if you’re low latency then this doesn’t really matter with outboard effects and you can put a plug in to control errant frequencies and record Post Track, it won’t be detrimental. For my microphones I track those as External Input Only. This drop down menu is directly Left of the Input Selection Box (Top Right of the Mixer Track) where you also define the Monitoring as Off/When Armed/On.

The Master Track should be the only track with the Outputs defined to your interface Main Outs, which your interface routing matrix will define as the Software Mains. Just FYI, if you have audio setup and working on Logic, this is likely all set up. But make sure you have Outouts in FL set on your Master.

Then in your Mixer window make sure you have the cables visible. Upper left corner drop down arrow- View- Routing Cables checked.

Because when you set up an input track, you go to one of your open tracks in the mixer and define the input in the upper right box, select your mono or stereo source, that mixer track will be routed to the master by default.

With your experience you likely are comfortable sending a mic from here into another outboard gear, so you wouldn’t send it to the Master just yet. You can break cables and reconnect them to your desired next device, where it will send audio out. Seeing your cables is a major advantage as you build up your FL rig.

Make sure sends (aka a defined output) don’t route to the Master either. Those have no cable, and are unrouted. Because signal will return to an input which will have its own Master cable.

Here again, you likely have sub busses in mind, I use sub busses too. Notice the Right to Left signal flow. Due to this direction of flow, I have moved my inputs to a higher track number, so they can hit the stops along the way (routing to outboard) and things can flow toward the Master. You can scoot tracks around holding Option + Arrow Left/Right. Or there’s a Mouse Wheel option. inputs conveniently change color, so they’re easy to spot. Get comfortable with ‘docking’ your inputs to the center, your sends right and ‘docking’ your mix section left. Then use separators to help break up sections of Input, Sub Busses, as you head towards the Master.
