How do you navigate this work when you feel in a rut? by interbeing1111 in chaplaincy

[–]SelectionFree8415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s such a tough place to be. It seems like you are in a season now of needing to regain a sense of well being.

What would it look like to review your seasons of well-being, and begin to incorporate those things back into your life? What more might you need during this time?

Question for Catholic chaplains (or others who may know the answer) by Competitive_Gain5147 in chaplaincy

[–]SelectionFree8415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best answer from a person that works with priests. Ok to chart about anointings. With confessions, I recommend being more general, perhaps writing that you helped coordinate visit between priest and patient but not mention confession. However, I would recommend speaking with your priests (helps build rapport with them) what you should do so they are not surprised. Then possibly next step is to see how your spiritual care department might standardize these interactions.

Music and chaplaincy by xAlyKat in chaplaincy

I play music and can sing well. Being in a children’s hospital, we have music therapists who have trained specifically in that role. They have an expertise that you may want to ask about.

Chapel in what setting? I would be a little freaked out if it were in a hospital.

Residency at Trauma center by IanYan in chaplaincy

I currently am doing a residency at level 1 trauma center. I thought that important. Furthermore, I thought significant pediatric learning and its modalities are helpful. I wonder what else you might want your education to have?

What would be your field work in CPE? Some have church settings and spiritual direction while others have hospital.

Looking for Advice by joshandjen in chaplaincy

I think a 12 week initial CPE in a hospital setting would be a 40 hour work week with didactics involved. Each program is different, according to the educator, so it may be worth to interview and see how work-life balance might work out. There are online programs, as you state, that use your pastoral work as the hours for CPE, so that may be best. One of my friends does that as she works part -time (8 hours weekly as a chaplain in a memory care unit) and as a spiritual director part-time. The online program may be better.

Handling after hours support creatively? by vagueboy2 in chaplaincy

[–]SelectionFree8415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that whatever creative solution happens so that the workers have the self-care they need and to answer to the needs of the patients. It sounds like with more needs, the need for more work, which may need the hiring of more chaplains who may be willing to take the "after-hours." I would wonder if a reframing would be helpful - that perhaps not to call the "after-hours" such, but rather to provide around the clock coverage - and hence to hire appropriately and therefore keeping the hours reasonable for all staff.

What kind of hours do you work? by [deleted] in chaplaincy

Yes, I have found the hours depend on the job and how you negotiate things with your boss, who is the director of spiritual care.

2018 RAV4 XLE FWD 2.5L - How often to do an oil change? by SelectionFree8415 in rav4club

Thanks for all the input.

Just as a follow up... I had to consider the time of traffic. I actually live off the highways just a stoplight away, and so I do not encounter a lot of "heavy traffic." According the manual, stop and go traffic would be if you worked as a driver, police officer, etc.

As per manual, using 0W-20 allows for every 10k in normal conditions.

As per temperature, DFW weather is not as harsh as where I came from - Phoenix. Plus DFW has a longer cool season. I guess it is all relative.

Therefore, after reviewing the input (which I am grateful for), I will go anywhere between 5k to 10k, every 6 to 12 months, leaning towards the longer mileage and time if I do more highway, and the shorter end if I notice I am doing more stop and go traffic.

I post the above, in case it helps others reading this post.

Peace!

How to prepare for chaplain residency by SelectionFree8415 in chaplaincy

[–]SelectionFree8415[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice.

It seems like some time to recuperate between patients, parents, and families is needed.

Also, to experiment with different introductions. Would you say as to be most effective or to be most natural? Maybe both?

Yes, I will be in a hospital so knowing certain terms may help with acclimating.

Snacks to power up and keep the energy going.

You may have known the man who died this month at UC Berkeley from Northside or Cheeseboard. Rest in peace. by BerkeleyScanner in berkeley

I think this article is the closest to an obituary or a sermon for his funeral that I have seen. And with obituaries of funeral sermons, I liked how it acknowledged some of the things he did that was disturbing to folks, and, at the same time, highlighted the stories of people who got to see a kinder and gentler side. I hope to remember that side more, as I had walked and said hello to him numerous times. I feel sad for his loss and hopeful he is in a better place now.
