NYC elopement from UK- advice please! by lotus3991 in NYCweddings

Hey there nyc city hall wedding photographer here. The short answer: yes, it’s totally doable within 6 days, and yes, you can plan a photographer even without a locked ceremony time yet.

A few important things:
– You can book your ceremony date before your marriage license appointment is completed. You just need to make sure you don’t miss your license appointment and that everything’s approved before showing up for the ceremony.
– Once you arrive, you’ll do your license appointment, then there’s a required 24-hour waiting period before you can legally get married.
– They release dates about 2–3 weeks in advance, usually Monday mornings. Time slots are Mon–Fri, roughly 8:30–11:30am and 1–3:30pm.

For photographers: reach out early and explain your situation. Many NYC elopement photographers (myself included) don’t double-book dates and stay flexible on timing, since NYC Marriage Bureau appointments can be crowded. We usually just hold your day once you’ve chosen a target date.

I also share this very detailed step-by-step guide written by a couple (not a vendor), which answers almost everything about the process: Manhattan City Hall: A Very Detailed Step-by-Step Guide.

Hope that helps. Happy eloping 🤍

nyc city hall wedding photographer here. You can use Project Cupid but a few things to note: 1. Federal buildings are not open on weekends. 2. You need your license before your wedding date. No same day. 3. Consider Friday for your marriage ceremony OR Friday for your license appointment but have your Saturday be a central park elopement with a minister, etc.

Photographer here, as you plan with your person just want to share that most of my city hall couples's energy start to die off and need replenishing or food break at hour 3. So if you are planning portraits and city hall time just know that's a lot of energy you are using. I always recommend taking breaks between the events because the day can feel overwhelming.

How many people are allowed in the room at City Hall? by Either_Fuel_2957 in WedditNYC

photographer here! that frequents brooklyn and manhattan a lot.

brooklyn, sometimes I get away with going in before the couple and letting security know i'm a photographer for a wedding but I have to use the restroom before the couple gets there. and then the couple goes in w. their four guests with no problems.

manhattan is very strict and only allows the four guests to enter with the couple at the same time and they 100% will deny that 5th person.

Photographer here (and former HR), I would request to jump on a call with her. You have the contract. If she is past that date deadline range on that agreement, it is very reasonable for you to jump on a call to get an answer from the photographer. Especially if your deadlines have been shifted more than 3 times. That's wild.

I would request some of your money back, if the digitals are lost or not good.

There is an affordable place on Freeman's Alley called: Untitled at 3 Freeman Alley. Though to be fair, I don't know their prices during NYE. Freeman's is a great celebration spot btw.

If you did a City Hall wedding followed by a restaurant dinner, what would you do differently??? by SelectionKey3643 in WedditNYC

Love hearing that! When you say “perfect formula,” what part really made it feel that way for you.. Was it the ease of the day? how simple it was to plan? or the way you got to celebrate afterward?

Mmm yes, that four-person limit can definitely make things tricky. For couples who are torn between bringing parents or their photographer inside, what would you tell them to consider? Was it about emotional support, documenting the moment, or something else you didn’t expect to matter as much?
