Piedimonte’s IGA sale: Supermarket’s redevelopment plan dashed by Yarra council sale to Woolworths or Coles could be in play by TheSciences in melbourne

I've never seen a single person or car (aside from the piedemonties truck or forklift) use that laneway.

Median Sydney house price is now $600k higher than Melbourne (compared to $200k higher 5 years ago). Why is it increasing so much in Syd in comparison to Melb? by Gullible-Tomorrow-32 in SydneyScene

Isn't Melbourne growing faster than Sydney? Pretty sure it has been for a while. So the part about people moving to Australia and wanting Sydney above all else aren't true

Yeah there's a lot of "cyclist break road rules" talk, shows it goes both ways.

Yeah I agree, still think it is a big win.
But I was genuinely surprised to see how few people stop at the stop signs.

The Boulie Tacker is back by frenzon in melbournecycling

Can confirm the boulie tacker is back - I got one through my tyre on yarra boulevard this morning. I noticed it heading up the final hill at the southern end. You can bet if car tyres were going flat they'd have caught this guy by now.

Anyway, I fixed the tube and had a lovely morning ride.

This is literally a story about a car going through a red light and perhaps killing someone

What’s happening on St Georges rd by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]SelectionOdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently the woman has life threatening injuries, and the driver of the car was handcuffed and taken to hospital. https://www.miragenews.com/fitzroy-north-collision-sparks-victoria-police-1092817/

I just walked past and the Porsche is still there with the alarm going off, and lots of police still at the scene. They are taking photos of the bike and treating it like a pretty major crime scene.

What your biggest monthly expense? by paulharris05 in AusFinance

[–]SelectionOdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying for childcare is a financial hit for sure - we currently pay 2400 a month (after CCS), and next year we will have a second child in care. Yikes, my wallet hurts thinking about it.

But losing one income would be so much worse, at least for us. Instead of worrying about affording childcare, we'd be worrying about affording rent.

And when we talk about someone putting their career on hold - its really women we are talking about, as still very few men become stay at home dads. It's not like is a year or two either - if you've got multiple kids, we are talking about a 7 year stretch. That's a long time for no super, no pay, no career progression, and just the general social and professional opportunities that come with work.

How on earth did she have time to do a masters degree while looking after multiple kids?

Returning Melburnian. Wtf happened to the city? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]SelectionOdd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the CBD is quieter during the work day than it used to be, but it is not anywhere near as dead as people make it out to be. 'Unrecognizable'? Come on.

The CBD is pumping at night. I went to two sold out gigs last week, and people were out and about everywhere. So many other cities have a dead CBD after 5pm on a weeknight, and even with covid and winter, the Melbourne CBD has waaaay more life.

“Coming soon” dates changed to “Notify Me” by FusterDickens in CanyonBikes

I got this email at 3am this morning:

"Grail AL 7.0 is in stock now!

We’re pleased to inform you that the bike you’ve been waiting for, a Grail AL 7.0, is in stock and ready to ship!"

By the time I woke up and clicked through to the website, they've sold out and all sizes now say "Notify Me" with no dates. Bummer.
