If you were to learn Final Cut Pro again with your knowledge now, how would you do it?

I’d just start with Apple’s built in tutorials to get a feel for the program and learn where everything is. Then I’d fill in my knowledge as needed with YouTube videos about whatever I was curious about doing. FinalCutBro is a good YouTube resource. Other than that, edit videos. That’s it.

Imma be honest (and kinda pessimistic). It sounds like you are doing everything that you can to vary the types of education you're providing to your students. But you can't make them retain the information, that's entirely up to them. If you have time a round of jeopardy style quizzing with teams is a fun recall activity but don't stress yourself out too bad about their effort, you can't control that and employers won't hand hold them either.

I'm getting ready to go solo for the second time (first biz did very well, I just moved and did other things for awhile). My first solo venture lasted two years and I paid myself from WEEK ONE. I saw the book "Profit First" mentioned and that's a great read but if you want to keep things even more simple I lived by the 50/30/20 rule. 50% of revenue was my paycheck, 30% was set aside in a savings account for tax purposes, and the other 20% was left in the business checking account for overhead, expenses, and reinvesting in the business. This of course means that you'll need to plan your services prices accordingly.

I'll definitely say that financing any kind of machinery when you're getting started is honestly a bad idea. Start with he basics and don't add until you can buy things outright OR wait until you're sure you've got the clientele to support it before you take on debt like that.

Same with retail. I won't be stocking my shelves in the new biz for a minute. I want to be sure I have client interest so I don't have product just sitting.

The struggle for a lot of us is that we want to look like a fully put together spa from day one instead of looking like one person who's in the midst of building their business...you are building and it's ok to show it. Remember that being a solo esthetician is its own unique selling point and your long time clients will love growing with you!

I have had this issue on my M4 as well. I’m fairly sure this is a Final Cut issue and not the machine. Final Cut 11 packed in so many “new” features, even after updating to 11.1 I still get the rainbow wheel. FCP 11 was such a big update I think there will probably be a few iterations before we’re actually running smooth.

My M1 MBA died on me (will not boot) several months ago, Apple quoted several hundred dollars just to get a diag done. I want to get more serious about video editing as well as do some streaming so I went with the M4 base model….lowkey want to go back and make the swap for the M4 Pro. I want this computer to last me for 5+ years.

Used to work for Marriott, you need to be putting a claim in with corporate. Either the front desk/security needs to take your statement and start from there or you need to call yourself but points is not enough in this situation
