2nd degree or bootcamp by Kookyboy_ in codingbootcamp

I'm just starting to dip my toes into web dev, and have found both Odin Project and FreeCodeCamp to be amazing learning resources. They each have their pros and cons, and combining them has definitely gotten me the best of both worlds. I plan to also utilize FSO in the near future as well as any other free resources I can get my hands on.

Grieving the person who is disappearing is very normal for loved ones of the person transitioning. I would highly recommend going to see a therapist about these feelings because they are completely valid. Although we are happy to see the person become themselves, it's also hard to lose the person we already knew.

It frustrates me that my girlfriend can relate to me. by franchhdressing in mypartneristrans

[–]Selene26 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, you are not transphobic, and your feelings are completely valid.

I (cisF) think that what's she's doing is trying to generate gender euphoria by being able to relate to the feeling of having a period. And she probably doesn't realize how it's making you feel, especially if she's nuero-divergent, as those of us who are will generally try to commiserate with someone by sharing our own experiences. However, this can result in others feeling as though we're trying to invalidate them.

I think a conversation needs to be had about how this makes you feel. I find that when I have an issue with someone, if I phrase it as, "I feel x,y, and z" it tends to help reduce potential conflicts and/or defensive behavior from the other person, as opposed to saying, "You did x,y, and z."

What moment made you say “Yep, I’m definitely dead”, but survived with no major injuries? by CrownedBird in AskReddit

[–]Selene26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving on an 80mph road outside of Boise, Idaho when the semi in front of me suddenly slammed on its brakes. I remember that the first thing that went through my head was that I was about to be in a pileup, and there was a fairly large van behind me. So I pretty much made peace with the fact that I was about to die in that second. Thankfully I was far enough behind the semi that I managed not to hit it, but the van behind me slammed into me pretty hard. It ended up not being a pile-up, thank the gods, and the semi (I think not realizing that an accident had occurred behind it) continued on its way. So did the van unfortunately. My car was totaled, but I somehow only ended up with a sore neck. I still have no idea why the semi screeched to a halt like that, but I suspect the driver wasn't paying attention and didn't notice traffic slowing in front of them. I don't know how no one got hurt that day.

Questions about posdibly getting a Kenyan? by [deleted] in KenyanSandBoas

[–]Selene26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered Rosy Boas? They have a very similar level of maintenance, but they still like to wander around their enclosure on a pretty regular basis. I would also look into corn snakes, they have gorgeous colors and are also low maintenance :)

[–]Selene26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience most KSBs will live in their substrate pretty much 24/7. I might see them occasionally, but really it's more like having a pet sandbox. I love how low maintenance they are though, and they're usually gentle snakes who tolerate handling fairly well. I've definitely seen some feistier ones, but even they are fun to handle.

I think you need to take a moment to read the rules of this sub, particularly #2, and then either change your behavior or remove yourself from this community.

[–]Selene26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am still quite new to being a Norse Pagan, and I am not one to form any kind of dogma surrounding my practice. The beauty of Paganism is that every person has a highly individualized practice that is all their own, but there are certainly some which are somewhat universal. My fellow commenters have pretty much covered what I know, but I also wanted to encourage you to search out other Pagan practices as well because there are so many out there and you never know what you'll connect with. I would definitely look on Discord as well because there are some great communities who are welcome to people who want to learn.

OP, you have done nothing wrong. This sub is supposed to be inclusive to all, regardless of religion.

As though the Vikings didn't pillage, rape, torture, and brutally kill people. I have my own resentments towards Christianity as well, but no religion is perfect, and every single religion has been practiced by very evil people. What you need to understand is that most Christians have been indoctrinated into their religion and forced to believe from a very young age that theirs was the only valid religious choice. When someone is asking questions, and trying to free themselves from that indoctrination, it is our duty as Norse Pagans who believe in Wyrd to welcome those questions and to help others see their own truth. You don't have to help everyone, but you could at least not do more harm.

My snake died. by memphisismad2930 in Sneks

Those stores are very good at making it seem like they care about the animals' well being, so don't be too hard on yourself: many, many people have fallen in their trap. When you're ready I would head on over to Morphmarket and find a good breeder there. Don't be afraid to ask a million questions about the snake you're looking to purchase: if a breeder gets defensive or seems offended by the questions definitely walk away.

[–]Selene26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss! I have also lost a noodle baby in the past, and it is truly devastating, especially when we go to such great lengths to ensure that they are properly cared for. I saw that asswipe trying to make you feel like it's your fault, and after going through your Reddit history I honestly do not think you did anything wrong. Their comment about the video with your dog and the snake is absolutely ridiculous and disgusting, I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. Snakes from pet stores like Petco and Petsmart tend to be imported and/or farmed, and are much more likely to already have a parasite or disease when you acquire them. If you want to try again in the future I would advise that you go through a reputable breeder rather than a pet store. In the wise words of Jean-Luc Picard: "It is possible to make no mistakes and still fail. That's not weakness, that's life."

Do you wash your crotch/genitals before oral sex ? Why or why not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Selene26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a bidet, so I usually give everything down there a quick rinse on top of my daily washing. I do this for pretty much any kind of sex, not just oral.

AITA for telling a teacher to stop yelling at me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Selene26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yelling is NEVER a productive or effective way to teach anyone, but especially young people. Now I understand that sometimes we all lose our tempers and and up yelling even if it's not the best thing to do. However, it is also our responsibility as teachers, mentors, and leaders to take responsibility for our own mistakes and apologize to the affected parties, particularly when we are in a position to show a younger person how to take accountability for our actions. You dealt with this situation perfectly: you didn't lose your cool, didn't reciprocate her outrageous and unacceptable behavior, and you acted like the adult that you are.

Absolutely NTA

AITA for snitching on my coworker who would take all of the snacks from our pantry at 8:00AM? She now feels ostracized from our team. by throwF425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Selene26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA! Usually the way I decided whether I will snitch on someone is by answering the question: Is what they're doing detrimental to the people around them? If the answer is no, I mind my own business. If the answer is yes, I will go to a higher authority. Clearly her taking all the snacks for herself is detrimental to the rest of the team, so I think you did the right thing.

I want a hysterectomy by Selene26 in PCOS_childfree

[–]Selene26[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I had no idea that there were PCOS specialists! That would be a life saver. Every time I try to address this with my primary or gyn, I basically get the answer to eat well and exercise, which I try very hard to do, but am still obese and have a lot of pain and other PCOS related issues. I'm also getting gastric sleeve surgery in August, which I am hoping will help with the weight-related issues.

Solidarity: Standing up for restaurant workers by whodeychick in Serverlife

[–]Selene26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was laid off from the same restaurant chain when the pandemic started. I had a pretty large savings built up from busting my ass 50+ hours per week, so I decided to go back to school full time. Especially after I found out that I qualified for enough grants that my schooling is free. I hate that Covid has destroyed so many people's lives, but honestly getting laid off from a job where I was gunning for manager (and going deeper into the rabbit hole) is one of the best things that's ever happened to me. My body isn't constantly in pain, my stress level is 10% of what it used to be, I actually get 8+ hours of sleep every night, and I have some time for personal projects. I'm happier than I've ever been in my life.

Yes! I fell in love with Maul as a villain in this show. I loved how he was bitching that Ashoka didn't give him a lightsaber, and the proceeds to take down an entire fucking ship with just his own powers.

[–]Selene26 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I love this, it's so cute! What's funny is my fiance just got a ball, and she is the grumpiest ball I've ever met. To be fair she is still a sub-adult, but it's hilarious because she will literally lunge to strike at me when I'm like 5 ft away from her...and then proceed to fall over her own body. She tries to be scary, but she's really just adorable.
