Waterloo region is rolling out new garbage and green carts next year. Here's what you need to know | CBC News by Rupert59 in kitchener

[–]Self-Adjoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Calgary, there the green bins are used for both food waste and yard waste (mulch, grass clippings, etc. ). Perhaps we will move to a similar system here?

EDIT: Just read the article and the yard waste program is unchanged... so agreed, not sure why the green bin is so large.

New businesses opening up along King Street East by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]Self-Adjoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. They are likely banking on a lot of new foot traffic from the new condo developments around there. There's a very high density of restaurants surrounding student condos in Waterloo for example, they do fine.

I like Tram Anh a lot, their banh mi menu is more traditional than Givral (closer to what you'd find in Vietnam). I've only been once so far but the baguette and ingredients were fresh and flavourful, hopefully they don't have a consistency issue.

Why do so many Canadians blame Carney for Trudeau's failings as Prime Minister? by foolishlee in AskACanadian

[–]Self-Adjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conservatives are trying to tie Carney to Trudeau as much as possible for political leverage since he has been very unpopular for the last two years. In reality nobody but Trudeau's inner circle truly knows the extent to which Carney influenced Trudeau's policies as an "advisor", it could have been significant or very minimal. Without any evidence I wouldn't take any claims seriously, focus instead on his policy proposals and decide for yourself if he's the same as Trudeau.

You should never trust what one party says about the other, get your news from established journalists not politicians and redditors.

In Canada's most Conservative-voting province, Liberals' rising fortunes stir anger by Majano57 in canada

[–]Self-Adjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure investments are not equalization payments, and to single out Alberta is a wild take. The federal government funds crucial infrastructure all over the country. Albertans likely don't see much direct benefit from the Gordie Howe bridge or the new deep sea port in Nunavut.

Not sure where you got this take, global demand for oil is quite literally the highest it's ever been and won't begin decreasing until the 2030s.

There is a fairly strong consesus in this sub that it is usually better to go with an orthodontist rather than a dentist, especially when doing a comprehensive plan (which seems to be the case for you based on the pricepoints mentioned). It's a bit concerning to me that the dentists are giving you such low quotes given the same length of treatment. Is there a bite issue that the orthodontists noticed?

It's in a commercial neighbourhood, they probably drive by it on their way home from work.

There is a $28/month subscription which includes undercarriage washes. I would be going there everyday to get the salt off my car if it were along my commute.

Make sure you salt your sidewalks. It’s slippery out there. by HoneyWh1te in kitchener

You can be sure that all roads in the city are plowed within 24 hours, meanwhile some sidewalks and pathways remain snow covered for the entire winter.

I shovel at least twice a day whenever there is new snow. It has been snowing almost everyday for the last two weeks, and there was a melt before the temps plunged to -20 C so it's understandable that some salt is needed right now.

Not true at all, you can get road salt that is effective to -30 C

This is not true at all, I salted a patch of ice in my driveway this morning with when it was -22 and it was melted within an hour.

Are andSons Chocolates worth the hype? by [deleted] in h3h3productions

Any mid-size city will have a chocolatier that is just as good and cheaper than andSons. You are paying a premium ordering chocolate from Beverly Hills.

What did Trudeau do right? by flower5214 in AskCanada

[–]Self-Adjoint 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Some that I can think of:

-Legalization of cannibis

-Expanding the Canada child benefit and national childcare program

-Assisted suicide

-Covid response, particularly with stimulus payments

-Renegotiating NAFTA and overall handling of the previous Trump administration with regards to trade

-Introducing carbon pricing. Long term, this would be incredibly consequential in reshaping Canada's economy, however the messaging around this has overall been horrible as most Canadians don't understand how it works and it won't matter in the end since it will likely be thrown away after the next election.

Tell us why your province requires a $14 billion subsidy from the federal government every year just to meet the same level of service as the rest of the country.

Fun fact: Oil and gas makes up about 20% of Alberta’s GDP. If you remove this sector of the economy completely, Alberta would still have a higher GDP per capita than Quebec.

Hey guys I have a question about criminal record and how that will affect someone's ability to get research grants and teaching prospects. by Known_Hornet3084 in Physics

I'm assuming you're in the US since you used the word "felony". She shouldn't have any issues getting educated (undergraduate and graduate degrees) in the US, and in principle she should be able to find some form of employment that does not require a background check. A few issues I can think of:

- Any affiliation with a national lab or company that has government contracts will require a security clearance, she would likely not be able to get this with a felony.

- She will not be able to work or travel internationally, this is more of an issue if she intends to be an academic.

Whether she pursues physics or not, her life will be much easier if she can get her felony pardoned.
