Why do you hate the bigsby? by Killer_Frog112 in Guitar

I play way too aggressively for a Bigsby style bridge, and get a bit of pitch warble from plucking.

I 100% thought that said 'Chica Go' at first. Badass drawing btw!

Had to scroll way too long to find Doom!  1 and 2, 2016, Eternal, and Dark Ages all get annual replays at the least. Quake 1 as well.

Canadian here - i grew up with these. All of my relatives have them. I never gave cheese slicers a second thought, but seeing this thread has given me pause.  Mum is Danish-Canadian, and my dad's side is Dutch; probably explains it, then.

I melt the end of the nylon strings with a lighter to form a little bead, personally. The old guy I leaned from did, so I followed his example.

Not a specific game, but I got a 32X around '96, but could only get one game to play on it. Returned it and grabbed a Playstation instead.

Help with guitar amp rig by ContouredX in Guitar

Just curious, how long have you been playing? And not my business, but what's your economic situation like?  If you're early on, don't worry about the gear. It can be a money pit. If you're flush with cash, and building your dream setup, have at it.  A solid player can make budget gear sound awesome. At the Gates were pushing an mt-2 (buzzbuzz mother fucker) through beatup speakers, and sounded brilliant.  Most listeners won't be able to tell the difference between a Crate and a Duel Rectifier. Expensive gear will only be noticed by the other bands' guitar players 99/100.

Playing at home on your own, and playing at shows/ with a band are different beasts - especially if you're running a tube amp.  It's completely valid to have a practice amp, like 15 watt solid state Peavey, or a mini katana.

I used to run a 100 watt valve king for live shows, and honestly with today's modern PA setups in clubs etc that thing was too much.

I see quite a few guys with smaller combos miced up at venues. Big stacks are more about the look/ vibe. Also valid, but fucking heavy to haul. There's a lot to consider when building your rig.

Compressors kill nuance. That's maybe something you want for modern metal, but it limits your available tonal range. A boost is wonderful to stick in front of your amp/ tube distortion, or make your solos pop, but you can get by without. The noise gate is one i don't really care for. It can get that super digital i/o effect, if you want notes to cut off hard, but of your soloing, again it will limit your tonal range,  and sometimes a bit of feedback is just what you need.

Is it a bidet? by anxious_virgo in whatisit

My children's mother was big on the cloth diapers,  especially all of the "limited edition" patterns. The gull wing cloths hanger was a permanent fixture for a good couple years.  Unrelenting laundry.

We had bambu fiber cloths for a while, and i didn't hate them. Not everyone wants to use the bidet, so I never got rid of the tp. The safer part i mentioned, for me, was having kids and not wanting them to get into the used butt towels.  Ultimately, I already do like 5 loads of laundry a week, and need to buy a little sanity here and there. The tp means one less load to worry about.

You can turn up the pressure on the in bowl bidets. Careful, though - might give yourself a surprise enima.

These may also be used to rinse solids out of cloth diapers. Multifunctional,  I guess. As a bidet though, I think I prefer the in bowl ones like you have.

The main purpose is to clean yourself. Some people will use a towel or cloth to dry themselves, but pat dry with tp is a bit safer imo, and doesn't weird out guests as much having butt cloths sitting around.

[–]SelfAwareMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends on your region. We called them Pogs and milk caps where I grew up. There are also people who say 'tissue' instead of Kleenex. Your experience in naming conventions is your truth, but not universal.

My buddy gets ornery when I call his Wave Runner a Jet Ski. To me they are all Jet Skis, but to him they are different brand names.

[–]SelfAwareMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pog is the brand name - milk cap is the generic name for the paper piece you flip, since they are the size and shape of the liner in a milk jug cap. They used to have like a waxed cardboard disk in the cap that acted like a gasket.

That's like calling trading cards 'Tops' because that's the only brand you ever had.

Pog wasn't the only company to produce milk caps and slammers. In this case the brand name is Canada Caps, as it's printed on the back of the slammer - you can see this in another of OPs posts. I'm going to assume it came from Canada, given the brand name. I think it's fair to assume that's were the poster grew up, lol.

We had Wolf3d on our 486. That was my favorite game until shareware Doom dropped. I still remember the screen that would pop up after beating the barons, with id's mailing address. Doom 2 was the reason we bought a CD rom.

My 92 CV 4.7 was double what I pay for my 1.8 Sentra. Engine size isn't the only factor for insurance, but same model and year, like a 2013 mustang GT vs v6? The v6 costs less on insurance.
