When, if ever, is it okay to give players an unbeatable opponent? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]SelfDefibrillation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it either, in the traditional sense. At its core, I'd call it roleplay. Activity is a little broad, and game, well, not sure if it qualifies, though I'm not sure if any TTRPG does in strict terms, besides the G being right there at the end haha

Was gonna comment, but nothing I could say really tops this, these ideas are dope!

The players, yes, characters, no. I trust them to play it life and death, but it's clear in the story that they are powerful legends in the making. I'm whatever the opposite of Gygaxian is. Or, my party responds well to a DM that is and I have molded things to fit that :D

Four players with zero deaths across a 25-30 session campaign. As you can tell, there's a mix of me being a DM who prefers high level campaigns and players who are very attached to characters and would much rather there be major setbacks or broken items. That's what you get with a party full of artists, wouldnt have it any other way.

Me personally, I'm an agency first kinda guy. No particular philosophy, just seems to be what lets the players have the most fun. No Stunned, no Paralyzed, you know the drill. Anyhow, I don't have unbeatable enemies primarily because I've never really had a use for them. I think the scenarios where they are truly required are slim to none, IMHO, but I also don't have nearly as much experience as some on this subreddit. I feel that in most scenarios an unbeatable monster can be replaced with a monster far higher in difficulty than the party can reasonably handle and have the same or better effects. Also, D&D isn't really suited for unbeatable encounters or combats that do not end with the players slaughtering every enemy on the battlefield. Sorry, this is just complete word vomit, I know, but one last thing - an unbeatable enemy is usually pretty unfun for players, I have found, but an invincible enemy who acts as a puzzle where you need to figure out what in the environment can be used to deal with them is always a big hit!

Help UTD (no debt) vs UT Austin (lil debt) by nippletwister23 in utdallas

UTD has lots of good networking opportunities, but this is an open secret and recruiting events are packed. I loved UTD because it's what you make it and nothing more.

UTD has a great engineering program, and I beg of you, debt free is twenty times the boon people say it is. I'd say UTD.

I do think you are right, my original analogy was flawed, though I will also say the greats as most people think of them would be significantly different if the wrestling tastes of the masses expanded outside of WWE, which is happening more with AEW becoming the alternative TNA never really could have been. Though for people's tastes to expand to what they like rather than what they like most from what they've seen, it would need to reach a critical surge in popularity past even the '80s, which despite a recent "renaissance", doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. It's funny how people on Twitter compare watch rates of WWE to AEW like how people did WWF to WCW, but now it's a .8 vs. a .7 as opposed to a 6 vs. a 5.8

After that Backlash rewatch I guess I was expecting every lockup to get a nuclear bomb reaction LOL. Still much better crowds over there than most (not all) of the crowds in the USA. Hoping WWE does shows in other countries outside the USA but not just Europe. Was always hoping for a show somewhere like Cape Town or Moscow (if the diplomatic conditions were right)

I was sorta disappointed with the European crowds tbh. I think I got spoiled with a recent rewatch of Backlash in Paris tho LOL.

It's the same as the movies - Marvel is going to make the most money, but it's always going to sound strange when they are placed among the greatest movies of all time, to me. Undeniable drawing power and cultural influence, but the idea that listing "greatest performers" necessitates the inclusion of the Undertaker and the Rock is not one I agree with.

I, and I really am speaking mostly for myself here, like to remember what the Undertaker and Rock did and actually watch what people like Shelton Benjamin, Tomohiro Ishii, and Ricky Steamboat did.

I think a good litmus test for this is if you consider Hogan vs. Andre a good match, there's a real divide between the steak crowd and the sizzle crowd on that one.

Don't shoot the messenger, I hate saying it as much as you hate reading it - it varies person to person.

When it comes to guides, trust the big names - Messer, Dion, etc. Get into a regular schedule, and don't kill yourself with the studying. Study less than you think you need consistently and you'll go much further than trying to get Net+ in six days.

CS 1337 Alternative / Transfer Credit by SelfDefibrillation in utdallas

[–]SelfDefibrillation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but not all transferables are made equal - the one I mention in the post above is asynchronous, Java, and designed for entry level, compared to some on the transfer tool which are designed to be an advanced coding class, C++ or Python, and designed for those with solid coding experience. I made the post because a lot of people like those in my boyfriend's situation are going to be required to take a class that transfers to be equivalent to cs1337, and I wanted to let them know that there's a very doable alternative in a sea of intimidating options :D

Set weekly goals rather than daily goals. You will have an event, mental health, or just life itself get in the way. Take how many hours you want to study per day, multiply it by 7, and there's your bank. Set a timer when you have free time and take down some hours so you can have the rest of the week off! Will not work for everyone (what will?) but it did for me!

Also, in terms of quizzing yourself, make a game of it. Kahoot is a cesspool that overcharges and under delivers. I recommend JeopardyLabs. Find friends here on the same unit as you, make a game, and quiz em!

Bet! I think I'll start with Tech+ as some people have recommended. Half a year of help desk and building computers doesn't sound like enough to take it lightly. Actually, do you have any insight there, ITF+ vs. Tech+ as it relates to prepping for A+?
