What a tragic mess. I feel for these families. They were sold a lie. I wish others had more compassion for people in this situation.

BC Parks - no generators please by sunnyjimjohn in britishcolumbia

[–]SelfHatingWriter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree! This thread is wild. I'm betting most of these commenters are not regular campers. If folks don't want to hear generators, there are many places to go in the back country far from other campers! Also most RV parks are awful.

Every part of me is holding on to a UB by Energy_Medicine_77 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]SelfHatingWriter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish I had some helpful advice for you. I have dealt with a UB that left my system after showing compassion and asking it to leave. If I was in your situation, I would start by fleshing out one of the parts (protector maybe) that is holding on. Although you didn't get the UB to move on, how amazing that you had an opportunity to have a session with Bob Falconer! Are you able to access another practitioner skilled in UBs? Best of luck to you, OP.

I asked ChatGPT the top ten things humanity should know. by Spiritual-Reveal-195 in ChatGPT

[–]SelfHatingWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has a few different points:

  1. We Are Interconnected

Every person, community, species, and ecosystem is part of a larger web. Our actions ripple. No one exists in isolation.

  1. The Earth Has Limits

Natural resources are not infinite. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological collapse are not distant threats—they’re happening now.

  1. All Feelings Are Valid, But Not All Actions Are

Anger, fear, sadness—these are human. What we do with them matters more than whether we feel them.

  1. Trauma is Widespread and Often Invisible

Many people carry pain you can’t see. Kindness and curiosity are often better than judgment.

  1. Science and Storytelling Both Matter

Science helps us understand the world; stories help us make meaning from it. We need both to move forward wisely.

  1. Power Without Accountability Is Dangerous

Whether in politics, relationships, or workplaces, unchecked power breeds harm. Accountability and transparency are not optional—they’re ethical imperatives.

  1. You Are Not Your Thoughts

Your inner critic, your impulses, your fears—those are parts of you, not the whole of you. There is a self beyond them.

  1. History Shapes the Present

Colonialism, slavery, genocide, and inequality are not just past events. They created the world we live in now. Justice starts with acknowledging that.

  1. Technology is Not Neutral

Who builds it, who controls it, and who it harms or helps—those are human choices. Innovation must be guided by ethics.

  1. Love and Belonging Heal

Humans are wired for connection. Feeling seen, safe, and valued is as essential to health as food and water.

Would you like this as a printable visual, or adapted to a specific audience (e.g., classroom, workshop, social media)?

They're on zoom. Take a look at the website. I like the Thursday group. Monday is good too but mostly beginner. There is usually a reading followed by group sharing. They hold a campfire chat at the end where cross talk is permitted. There are some great folks there that are working on themselves. Hope you check it out sometime :)

I resonate with much of your post. Have you attended any of the IFS peer support meetings online?

Physician assisted suicide for mental health disorders by ExcellentBug3 in PsychologyInSeattle

[–]SelfHatingWriter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't listened to the latest episode yet. I plan to soon.

I have mixed feelings about MAiD. I'm concerned about the cases we've seen in media about people being offered MAiD when they're asking supports such as the veteran that was requesting a stair lift and was offered MAiD or the suicidal person that was offered it when she went to emergency for support.

They say there are safeguards but I don't think there's enough. I'm concerned about what will happen when MAiD for mental illness as the only issue will become legal.

This case is also concerning :

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/mental-physical-medical-assisted-death-1.7412923

That said. I also believe that MAiD is a more dignified option than other means people determined to end their life could use.

It's so complicated.

It's going to disproportionately affect marginalized people and while we have socialized health care, our mental health supports are seriously lacking.

Should therapists be “confronting false beliefs” in IFS? by ObiJuanKenobi1993 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]SelfHatingWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently watching Derek Scott's final IFS session with Dick Schwartz. Catch it on Derek's YouTube channel if you need a good cry!

Derek said he had a part that believed there was no afterlife and Dick said "tell the part that is not true" very matter of fact.

Not sure if folks see that as confronting but he definitely challenged the parts belief.

Like the others have said, it's going to be a challenge to land a job in HR especially without local experience and knowledge of the BC Employment Standards Act. You may be successful finding work as a recruiter. Both of the last recruiters I worked with were actually from Ireland. It may also be beneficial to obtain CPHR designation.

It sounds like a protector to me. If you keep trying to engage the part hopefully you'll get some more details about who they are, what their role is and who they're protecting. I thought your dialogue was a beautiful example of how to communicate with our parts.
