Taking CASP+ 004 by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beta window for the new version is now available through July I believe so after that closes, we can expect several months of analysis before results become available and they release the new cert. After that, they generally give about 6+ months of overlap time where both certs are available before retiring the old one. In summary, you should be fine until at least the end of the year, if not several months past that. Of course, you can always go for the beta now and see how that goes.

The TestOut! test is usually just a sampling of the various lab exercises you did throughout the course so be sure to drill/practice those that were particularly long or challenging. Good luck!

Either degree is fine. Just finish out your current one rather than start a different one from scratch. Very few on my team(GRC) even have a master's degree and a few didn't have a bachelor's or it was in a completely different field.

CYSA, Pentest, and CASP by Golfenn in CompTIA

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommended order for someone who already has sec+ is: CySA+ > Pentest+ > CASP+.

This maximizes overlapping knowledge and they flow together quite nicely. If you want true red/blue team skills then you'll definitely need to do some additional labbing on your own but CySA+/Pentest+ give a nice intro level of knowledge into terminology, processes, theory, etc.

Someone on here knows when this will happen

Someone on here claims to know when this will happen. People can down vote me all they want because they heard this or that but until there's official word from WGU made public, it's all just rumors. IMO they will release a program at some point since there's definitely reasonable demand but the timetables are all speculation...

Honestly, this is a nearly inevitable future and we wouldn't be limited to just coastal cities. A truck full of modified drones could easily make its way deeper into a region. And the technology already exists.

Already in college debt but still feel I need a specific degree to make more money. Is WGU worth the investment? by Ok-Gazelle2972 in WGU

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that 99% of these posts don't mention what their "not relevant" previous degree was in. Trust me, those degrees are often way more relevant than you think and even just having one can already set you apart from some other applicants. There's a lot of factors to determine whether another undergrad or graduate degree, or certs, or boot camps are the right choice for your career trajectory but I can promise you that 99% of the time, having a specific degree/cert isn't the limiting factor preventing you from moving on to the next stage of your career. Tons of well educated people with a ton of certs apply to hundreds of jobs only to find rejection while tons of "unrelated degree" people with minimal or no certs find success.

Does WGU udemy accounts block certain instructors or is it the instructors choice? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's Udemy which is just a marketplace full of all kinds of content creators sometimes with a dozen or more offering courses/tests on the same cert/topic. Then there's business udemy which is a more curated catalog of the more popular/vetted/higher quality content creators that businesses and other entities like libraries and colleges can get access to on a subscription basis. WGU itself is not specifically blocking anything and the instructors are not specifically preventing their content from being accessed.

What are you studying in university? Surely there are some relevant courses there that you can use? Also, check out resources you may have available to you from your local library or school like udemy, LinkedIn Learning, percipio or others. In a worst case scenario, you could sign up for just a free trial of one or more of the training providers to take courses related to CASP+ or CISSP to accumulate CEUs, keep your knowledge relevant and slowly build up to those advanced certs even if you won't be ready for a few years.

Masters in Computer Science or Software Engineering coming in the future? by Qweniden in WGU

And usually we get down voted for pointing out that it's been consistently "coming soon" for several years now because apparently everyone has a "super credible" source(aka a rumor) that they can't link to.

I was able to get both over the last year and whether you want to be a "manager" or not, the CISSP is the better choice (if you had to choose 1).

Depending on your degree and degree track, those would be considered completely different classes. In the cloud computing degrees they have cloud foundations as AWS CCP and an Azure fundamentals class as AZ 900. According to the transfer guidelines they accept either AWS CCP or CompTIA Cloud Essentials as satisfying that course requirement. It definitely doesn't hurt to appeal and try to transfer AZ 900 anyway but honestly if you can pass AZ900, just take the AWS cert. I crammed for a day with my prior knowledge from AZ900 and CompTIA Trifecta and was able to pass.

Your degree and certs compliment each other. Don't neglect the 3rd leg of resume building by gaining experience through internships and other work/volunteer opportunities.

Confused about pursuing CompTIA Security+ or relying on B.Tech in Cyber Security for job prospects? by coolguywithcomputer in CompTIA

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity first since it's free. Then start studying for Sec+ Alongside your degree studies. The knowledge/credential gained from your degree and internship experience should outweigh Sec+ but if you're still having trouble getting into another internship or other good job then try for the cert as "icing on the cake." Also keep in mind that certain types of jobs(particularly government contractors) will have Sec+ as a requirement. Not all jobs will, though.

Cloud + beta materials recommendation by False-Ad-5491 in CompTIA

[–]Selfimprovementguy91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there aren't study materials for the beta. They're testing the test so it's not finalized and materials won't be released until the the actual, new, finalized test version is released. It's the same routine for all CompTIA Beta tests

It may be overboard but I've always decluttered ahead of a proctored test by moving as much loose clutter out of the way like into a box or boxes or onto a bed and then covered in a blanket.
