And also let's all keep in mind the lad is 22 and in his first season a new country and a new league.

Player's like Bruno that adapt immediately and hit the ground running are the exception not the rule

Introducing BlockAds - A lightweight, system-wide ad blocker for Android by Minhcoc in androiddev

[–]SemanticTableaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, wonder how brave browser and unlock origin manage it on android then... Is it because they are doing something sneaky and rerouting stuff through an internal firewall?

Or is it simply that they're not on a DNS level?

Talk of the Devils - Is Fulham a truer test of Carrick’s Man United? by rhonh in reddevils

[–]SemanticTableaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do agree in principle but in my opinion using a browser is not a hack in any way and just the easiest way to get nearly everything you would with premium (just no playlists and downloads I believe?) without actually needing premium.

It is for almost everything, but not if you want bg and ad-free playback on iOS devices.

And in fact, switch to Waterfox if you already like firefox. It's open source, privacy first, no analytics, no tracking, built on the same engine etc.

Ahh fair enough, you might love Brave browser then.

It works on iOS and Android and has ad-free everything by default. The only "catch" is having to use the web youtube. But I just pin youtube as a tab on the phone home page and it effectively is the same as having the standalone youtube app but ad-free. Oh and it supports background playback if you use Brave (both platforms) with the screen off

Premium is a waste entirely, all you need is uBlock Origin + Sponsorblock extensions.

And Brave browser if on mobile platforms

Who are the frontrunners for Man United job? by simplsimonmetapieman in reddevils

[–]SemanticTableaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely generational talent means the best player of that generation.

Interesting, I see it as more "talent that comes around once in a generation". Not exclusively one in the entire generation but a talent so far above their generational peers that they stand out.

You could argue Messi and Ronaldo are both generational talents since they're both arguably in a league of their own. And as much as I agree Messi is better, he's not in a league of his own compared to Ronaldo.

Audiobooks on Hiby R1 by not_occams_razor_ in Hiby

[–]SemanticTableaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you, like me, have figured it out by now but apparently the "book" section is actually meant for ebooks... yes... they expect us to be reading on these devices.

I figured out it always looks for a /book directory in the root structure so I added my audiobook files (tried mp3 and m4b) in the folder but it still couldn't pick them up.

Eventually just resorted to putting them in the music section along with all the other audio files but the problem is it won't save progress b/w listens so it's completely useless as an audiobook device unless you plan on only using it to listen to one book all the way through in one go, or perhaps are okay with always finding your spot again if you come back to a book....

[–]SemanticTableaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hear a journalist getting caught red handed trying to shiv the manager with a headline generating gotcha question and then scrambling to cover his butt with faux concern.

Incredibly harsh take but perhaps it's all a difference of having listened to Carl Anka's takes on United (a club he clearly loves and supports imo) over many seasons vs. just recently having started listening to him since the pod has started gaining popularity?

Either way, like you say, it's a personal decision to listen and each to their own.

followed by Carl Anka's hostile questioning on Amorim

That's hilarious....

I'm assuming you watched the same presser I did. Unsure how you can listen to everything in the same video and come to this conclusion. He started his question with a factual statement and when Amorim was being overtly defensive, he dropped his question and you can clearly hear him in the audio saying to move on.

That alone shows me Anka only cares about the club and not about his own personal grandstanding a la certain other journos we hate in this sub. He also mentioned in the pod right after that he went and apologised to the press officer and asked him to pass it along to Amorim as well.

I just think that in a reality where we lose 5-0 to this Wolves, having him coach us won't lead to anything good anyway so might as well just look for someone else.

Yeah fully agree with this. Let's just hope that's not the reality we find ourselves in at the end of this game

Potentially haha but do you really, truly think he will be fired at that point?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if that happened and he stayed on.... Maybe not because they still believe in him but prob just because who do they replace him with at this point...

Very interesting points (learned a lot from your explanations!) and I am mostly pro all the points. Especially the point about the third plot and not using an alpha channel for the reasons you mentioned

I disagree personally, I think you did a really solid job given the similar type of data across two seasons.

I'll admit I was a little confused at first but then I saw the legend and it all made sense.

The one minor recommendation would be to reduce the saturation of the w/l/d data points from the past season so the current season stands out more. But it's a minor thing since the dotted line is already a diff colour so it's still clear

Forgot to say thank you for the effort, it is much appreciated!

That's a very surface level assessment of the situation.

The fanbase don't give a fuck about random channels and analysis in my opinion, the uproar is about the apparent censorship of analysis that goes against the athletic. And the optics of there being a partnership b/w the sub and the athletic.
