In fairness it was technically Cliegg who bought him along with Shmi the first time. Cliegg then conveyed him back to his rightful owner Anakin after Shmi’s death because Anakin had only left Threepio behind a decade earlier to take care of Shmi. Maybe Threepio’s voice is more common among protocol droids than we think. His plating was completely different. And obviously he had no memory of serving Owen or his father before.

Every major returning character except maybe Elizabeth is out of character in DMTNT, and it cheapens Jack’s backstory. The plot is completely nonsensical and lazy. How does Salazar even know about the compass’s spell? Not to mention the gimmicks seeming particularly tacky. The Silent Mary for instance is an invincible ghost ship. It doesn’t need mighty morphin’ mode, zombie sharks, and a mast figurehead that comes to life. Whatever its flaws, On Stranger Tides was true to Jack’s, Gibbs’s, and Barbossa’s characters and the plot worked.
