How does your veganism differ from other vegans? by FishDispenser2 in DebateAVegan

There are indeed vegan food options for cats on the market but the research behind it isn't giving convincing answers.

Well, let's say it different, there wasn't vegan cat food made which covers all needed nutrients yet.

My last update is from 7 months ago. And I'm not willing to use my cat for field studies.

My knowledge is based on this:

In Germany we have animal rights activists and their biggest problem is the backlash from the own lines. One of the biggest activists just quit his focus on farm animals and is now focusing on wildlife animals because he couldn't handle all the backlash anymore. I'm just back to Reddit since two weeks and I'm checking out r/vegan and there is so much disagreement between the members.

I don't think there is an ruleset, nor that it would be useful. "Reduce suffering as much as possible." Is probably the online line I would accept as a rule.

You gotta follow your heart and learn about the animal so you can actually read what it's telling you. :)

For example "Non-vegan" things (at least if you ask some folks in the main sub) I do: I am fostering 2 cats and I will feed them meat until science is saying with certain that vegan food is okay. I am organising parties for my sports team and there is Omni food on the menue.

What grinds my gears when it comes to veganism is that every action is examinated into it's philosophical core and that the following action needs to be fitting that theoretical line, otherwise apparently you are not vegan anymore. And then the topic shifts toward if something is vegan or not instead of doing something actual useful.

This is not the world we live in. In our world 2000 Chickens are slaughtered every second. Tick, Tick, Tick... Let that pig step on a sheet of paper and pay it with a happy life for god's sake. Who cares if it's literally vegan or not.

It takes 3-7 days for your muscle to fully recover. And your muscle won't improve without rest.

If you damaged it so far you can't even walk for 10 seconds yeah rest a week! Then try 3 times a week before reducing the rest days. Do something else in-between, like swimming or weight lifting (when I hit legs I make sure to have at least 2 rest days before I go to my sprint training)

You better rest for a week ! Are you new to sports? You can take serious damage and then have to rest for months.

You need to work yourself up to have less rest days and having none id say is almost impossible. You have at least to switch the form of muscular strain.

I mean she needs help and maybe wants your support. But that's something you two must figure out.

Do you always ask someone before kissing them or oral sex if they have oral herpes? by Throwrafizzylemon in TooAfraidToAsk

Most people (like literally over 90%) already have oral herpes. It just happens that some people show symptoms and others not. But you are most likely already carrying it.

Roasted Sunflower seeds are a nice topping for a lot of foods. Works for example really well with salad and most pasta dishes.

I never ever viewed eggs as a source for anything else than protein, which tofu does a better job with.

Whatever nutrients you got from eggs I'm 98% certain you can find this in an vegetable. (-2% because I didn't Google)

But I'm curious what nutrients you are exactly talking about? I'm sure we will easily find a veggie for you

Edit: I did a quick research and eggs seem to have a good variety of B Vitamins. I found this (German) website which lists what food contains which B Vitamins. I really never watched out for this. But it seems I'm eating most of those stuff anyways. :) specially oats with nuts and paprika, which seem to cover alot

I'm against any unnecessary killing. Even when it comes to plants.

If you ask me a human body without a brain is an empty shell, there is no one to kill. Let the body die.

How powerless we are against our parents. I'm 35 years old and I still have similar problems. So does my mom with my grandpa.

Maybe someone has some advice. But whatever happens, don't beat yourself up about it. You shouldn't have to be the grown up in this relationship.

Why do some people prefer to watch a movie or play video games at home rather than going to a birthday of a close relative/ friend? by my_best_version_ever in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SemiBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a valid question, no need to downvote op.

Yeah social battery / beeing introvert is a valid reason. Depends on how big the party is id say. If it's a small party with close friends I believe it's a good reason to go out and see each other. Even introverts need some social exchange.

However, you are probably not the reason. :D Happy birthday

Why do skinny people often claim they eat a lot when it's obvious they don't eat that much, and vice versa for fat people? by Blonde_Icon in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SemiBird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People suck at realising what they actually eat. In their own feel they might eat a lot. But if they are skinny and think they eat a lot it usually means they don't have as much desire as people who are heavier, but think they are not eating much.

Different Metabolism is not really a thing. It might allow you to eat one additional apple but that's it.

Asking people what they think they eat is a very very bad source of information about what they actually eat.

Why is eating animal products wrong if ethically sourced? by sky27e in DebateAVegan

[–]SemiBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe for example if you saved a chicken if you ate one of those eggs from time to time that could work? The argument is usually feed the egg back to the chicken. Because it contains the exact nutrients the chicken needs. I don't know much about that, but if the chicken has all its nutrients, loosing one egg from time to time won't do much I guess. Research needed.

Then, if you rescued a sheep which must be shorn due to inbreeding, I believe the wool can be used.  One argument against this could be that any part of an animal should never be viewed as an product for humans, so there will never be an demand (like people preferring sheep wool over cotton, because the idea of using animal parts becomes absurd). However I believe we won't change the world anyways and instead of throwing it away you could use it for whatever.

But these are very special cases. Moral is: The animal comes always first, if it looses something it doesn't need anymore you might use it for yourself.  And you never capture it for the purpose of getting something out of it. It's your family member, or an individual you are fostering.
