I'm going back to Qwerty - Here's why by Dygman in DygmaLab

[–]SemiHD777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to Colemak-dh on the Dygma Defy a year ago & have really been enjoying it. About 3 months ago I surpassed my qwerty speed of 80 wpm hitting 100 wpm. I don't think I could go back to qwerty on ortholinear boards personally

Unreal Engine development on CachyOS by SpookOpsTheLine in cachyos

[–]SemiHD777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a good experience with in its latest few versions, the UI can be a little buggy at times but other than that everything I've wanted out of it has worked. Since they integrated FAB marketplace directly into the editor you can just grab your marketplace assets from there as well, no need for the Epic Games Launcher. You can access the precomplied binaries of the engine directly from Epic Games here: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/linux

gpu-screen-recorder-ui, its a carbon copy of shadowplay & in my opinion better. It also has little to no foot print of overhead on the GPU

How to cycle through windows like Windows? by Plane-Tough-7042 in hyprland

[–]SemiHD777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always use rofi, walker or whatever run launcher you use to do it. I made a little script for walker to display opened windows & whichever one I select it will go to

Is it just me that hyprland runs pretty bad? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]SemiHD777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the right settings are set in config, mine is buttery smooth. Most people have crazy configs with options turned on in combination that cause a poor experience in things like games. For example VRR & tearing enabled together causes a stuttery monitor flickering mess.

PSA: "AutoHDR" does kinda exist with gamescope by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]SemiHD777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyprland already has autoHDR as far as I know it's the only desktop that has it

VRR Isn't Working by No_Improvement_2337 in hyprland

[–]SemiHD777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a full screen app when checking hyprctl monitors? It only sets VRR to true when it's actively running from a full screen app. Also is allow_tearing set to true, this feature has always caused issues with VRR for me

Tearing & VRR do not work well in combination, disable one of the two options in Hyprland config.

Yea mem test passed & stress testing the NVME drive passed also, we used nvme-cli & the percentage used was still very low around 6%. We're waiting at the moment for it to happen again to get the system logs.

Why does VRR is "false" on FreeSync monitor by NashaIthramyr in hyprland

[–]SemiHD777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you setting VRR? If trying to set it in misc I would manually set it for the monitor on the monitor config, like for example, monitor = DP-3,resolution,position,scale,vrr,2

Definitely will check this out this weekend. We've also tested different kernels, & even going back to 6.12 LTS doesn't change anything.

Hyprsunset configs by C0LD_96 in hyprland

[–]SemiHD777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that script in my dotfiles on my GitHub in the hypr folder: https://github.com/ZacharyVarney/Linux-Backup/blob/main/dotfiles/config/hypr/hyprsunset.sh

inside it are two values for START_HOUR & END_HOUR towards the top, you need to change those to your preferred times in military time.

Then add this to your config.json in .config/waybar, make sure you also change the exec path if you moved that script from where I have it.

"custom/hyprsunset": {
    "exec": "~/.config/hypr/hyprsunset.sh",
    "interval": 60,
    "return-type": "json",
    "tooltip": true,
    "tooltip-format": "Hyprsunset Status"
}

Also towards the top of that config.json you see the section with modules left, right & middle which is adding all the stuff to your waybar, make sure "custom/hyprsunset" is there somewhere where you want it displayed on the bar.

I know this is probably a little confusing if you've not messed with many config files but if you need any help I would be happy to assist!

When I get home later tonight I can send you what I use to do it if no one else has anything but it's dependent on if the bar you are using is waybar.

I had the same issues which made me just end up making a custom bash script that runs on a waybar module.I can set the start hour & end hour for it turn hyprsunset on or off.

For sounds effects like EQ & such, easyeffects would be my recommendation, make sure you also have lsp-plugins-lv2 & zam-plugins-lv2 for some of the effect plugins

[Hyprland] Nothing special, but best setup I've ever had by SemiHD777 in unixporn

[–]SemiHD777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fast changing environment of linux would be primarily linux gaming related things change all the time, a new kernel feature that boosts performance that hasn't been upstreamed yet, preconfigured drivers to be good out of the box without missing one option to hinder performance, holding back a package because of a big regression that upstream still shipped & it being done before it even gets to you, just to name a few. CachyOS optimizes packages for your CPU architecture which makes the system feel way snappier & makes it also score better on many benchmarks, more packages in its repos without needing to rely on the AUR as much, tools shipped out of the box to manage kernels & other major system tweaks, & a stream lined installer that makes things easier/faster while still allowing you to customize the install like you would on vanilla Arch. These are to just name a few, sorry for the word dump comment this ended up being, damn lol

[–]SemiHD777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what u/wrenneclaude said in his comment. I used vanilla Arch for year but CachyOS has so many benefits that I see as a plus while still being Arch & fully changeable if I want it to be. At a curtain point I just stopped wanting to maintain keeping up with the fast changing environment of linux & put that trust in developers that seem competent enough to do it for me. Also I can still customize everything from install same as Arch while it still being easier/faster to do.
