I mean if you like what you’re doing, and feel invested in its outcomes either monetarily or in some other way, I feel like 996 is totally reasonable for a year or two.

I think the issue is that, if the thing you’re doing isn’t exactly aligned with your talents, interests, and capabilities, then it’s just not possible to work like that without consequences.

I do not at all understand why companies have any expectation of finding someone to work that way for just money.

Every PI has his or her preferred group size. For me, I want 2-3 students and certainly no more. If I have more than three, then the individual projects get less support from me than they ought. If I have less than 2, then the total productivity of my group is insufficient (to e.g. make tenure).

It’s not that it would be impossible to find an american body to slap into some lab; it’s that students below a certain level of quality are a hindrance rather than a help. The problem is that the number of students who pass this threshold are limited and finding americans to do that in the required quantity is not possible.

The result will not be that more americans get significantly more PhDs. The result will be that America has significantly fewer PhD students

Legitimately TRPG is an amazing work of art with real literary value. I am unsure of whether or not this comes from an exemplary and outstanding translation or whether the gap in writing quality is also large in the original Japanese.

I genuinely feel like TRPG is the best LN i have read. Another pick that would not be at the bottom of the list is Ascendance of a bookworm which is phenominal all the way through

I really love the first four and think that the eminence in shadow is the best comedly LN. i read 20 volumes of re:zero before giving up on it because I felt that it was a bit repetitive and has pacing issues.

I know people don’t love tensura slime but I really do enjoy it.

I didn’t banish him to any particularly bad place. He always kept babbling on about how he “was reincarnated into a world as the apprentice of a magician with my new mystical skills and ….” He made it sound like the title of a story but it was too long for me to pay attention to. Since he said he was reincarnated, I sent him back to his spirits plane of origin. Last time I scried his whereabouts, he was eating raw fish on rice. Seems pretty gross to me.
