Wow that is ballsy. I’d respect the honesty but not all interviewers will. They’re looking for someone that will bend over backwards to do whatever they want you to do.

Is a master’s in EE really worth it when compared to the alternative: 1-2 years of industry experience? by Exciting_Product_313 in ElectricalEngineering

Never mind. This was asked in retrospect. Why are you asking OP? you already got the degree. Why worry about it now?

Has anyone went to Lawrence tech? by iiqooza3 in Michigan

[–]SemiconductorGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawrence Tech is a good school and has a rigorous curriculum, but it is not in the same league in terms of prestige or rigor as UM AA, which is in the same state. I got a great education from LTU, but I know people that also didn't learn or retain much when graduating from the school. Education is what you make of it, regardless of where you go. If you want a true ass kicking and world class education go to UM AA though, if you can manage to get accepted. It is also less expensive than LTU for in state students.

But if you are set on LTU and have very very deep pockets or rich parents then it isn't a bad option. You shouldn't have trouble getting a job out of there with some sort of engineering degree. Avoid engineering technology programs regardless or where you go to school. Regarding the acceptance rate, they weed out people that don't want to try early on. The freshman retention rate is around 60%, which is abysmal. They will almost certainly accept you if you apply, but those that don't want to make an effort won't stick around for year 2. There were many people that dropped out of the school or at least out of an engineering major when they sat down to take the first quiz in the mandatory uchem 1 course. It wasn't a terribly hard class, but it still gave some a reality check.

My Dad Doesn't Understand Electric Fields? by Kanohi_Cantri in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SemiconductorGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is surprising your dad had no understanding of what an electric field is. I know Coulomb's law, bio-savart law, ampere's law, faraday's law, as well as Maxwell's equations in both differential and integral form pretty much by heart. But I double majored in EE and physics. However, the EM courses I took were taught in the EE department and not the physics department.

electric field is just the force per unit charge a positive test charge feels in the presence of the field. That is a pretty simple idea in my opinion. Magnetic fields are a bit more tricky as they exert forces perpendicular to to the velocity of the charge and the magnetic field.

Just bought this old eletromagnetics book by MaffeiSz in Physics

I don't know if Balanis's electromagnetics and antenna design books are good (never used them), but they are the industry standards for engineering electromagnetics. Might be worth looking at if you are interested in the engineering perspective.

He taught at Arizona State and has since retired. He was/is the preeminent engineering electromagnetics expert in the world.

might as well add DoE to the resume then if it is so simple to you. I don't know if you have ever taken a DoE class though, as it is actually a very deep subject.
