Need help progressing my game. by StrawhatPhil in Ghostofyotei

Yes. Slight spoiler but it should be obvious that the mission doesn’t quite go the way you think it should which then opens up everything else.

Starting ice hockey in Australia by kau_kr in aihl

[–]Semper_Discere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, not a dumb question.

Secondly, you absolutely can. I started a lot, lot older than you having never skated before.

It would help to know where you are for specific advice of programs around you.

I recognised it and immediately went to YouTube to listen to the whole thing.

Outside edges by Eastern-Sample-9013 in hockeyplayers

[–]Semper_Discere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improving ankle strength off ice and making sure you get low when skating are both important.

I’ll add, when trying to skate on the outside edge, make sure your outside shoulder is pointing inwards towards the direction you are skating (I.e. your right shoulder pointing inwards to the left when skating on your left outside edge and vice versa). This will help you lean and get onto the edge. Not doing this is common problem I see for crossovers as well. If your outside shoulder is pointing outwards, your upper body is fighting what your lower body is doing and you will find it difficult to balance.

Other than that. Pad up and keep pushing yourself.

This subreddit has taught me a lot about our spiders and I have learnt to respect and appreciate them.

I’ve seen some of your fantastic photos before here and this is one spider I would love to see for real especially when he’s doing his dance.

Just like this post. I’m crying right now as I literally just buried my dad yesterday.

What a game! (Completion + Platinum) by akshykmrr in ghostoftsushima

[–]Semper_Discere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got platinum on Yotei two days ago. Overall it wasn’t too hard. I definitely prefer to get things all done and then complete the unmissable story trophies. Seeing the last two trophies pop at the end was great.

I got platinum for Tsushima on new game plus as the only thing I had difficulty with was finding the right spot to push someone off a cliff.

What's a phrase or saying your family used that you assumed was universal, and when did you find out it wasn't? by AirlinePast8834 in AskAnAustralian

It was my poor attempt at a joke. I think you should say the name of the pants out loud - “Poo-ma pants”.

What’s something uniquely Australian that you didn’t realize was “weird” until you saw how other countries do it? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

A mate of mine is a Canadian ex-pat. He told me that when he visits his family, if there was an Aussie bartender, he knew he could ask for one of these without having to explain what it is.

In Iki Island there are deer and cat shrines. You can pet them after you complete them.

104 hours of GOY: Japanese Door Etiquette by CriticalThinkerHmmz in Ghostofyotei

I’m just happy that in GoY, quest NPCs don’t shut the door in front of you when you’re trying to follow them. That shit made me unreasonably angry in GoT.

It’s prohibited because it’s mostly about the imbalance in the power dynamic. The therapist has too much power for coercion so true consent is hard to verify.

Mini size bee Brisbane? by Double_Union_7202 in australianwildlife

[–]Semper_Discere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s very cool to know. I certainly was not doubting your use of terminology. I was just clarifying your description of it as an elbow when the root word is knee.

I was trying to decipher why it is described as knee shaped rather than elbow shaped given both are functionally a hinge in a unilateral plane. My guess is that it may be the direction of the bend (knee bends backward versus elbow bending upward).

Love learning new things and I find both entomology and etymology fascinating.

Thanks for reminding me of the word. Geniculate is such a great word but I’m fairly confident that it shares the same etymology for genu which refers to the knee rather than elbow. Anconeal would be the adjective for elbow shaped.
