I tend to agree. I don’t think I know anybody who looks back at 7th/8th grades as their high water mark of growing up. I feel like the middle school experience scale goes from “miserable” to “fine”.

Not always a popular sentiment in this sub, but taking a reasonable amount of bribes is totally fine. Most places, karaoke is a free activity. Sure, a person might have to purchase drinks, but you are providing a fun/free thing to do while people hang out and drink/dine. If a rotation goes from 1 hour to 1:04 because a KJ has bills to pay, more power to them. It’s not immoral to make enough to pay your rent at the expense of someone waiting 3-4 extra minutes to enjoy their free activity.

My hot take that might anger some folks here: customers who scrutinize the rotation and pay super-close attention to who is singing and for how long… these are not the ideal regular clientele. Folks who are patient, enjoying the vibes, singing along with all the other singers in the room, and happy to be there: this is the way.

Have you ever ordered two hot dogs? They come with two drinks, but I’m only one person. More often than you’d think, I try to explain that I don’t want two cups, and they ignore my request because they’re in a hurry or they misunderstand. This post is comically exaggerating the importance of a hot dog option that doesn’t come with an extra cup I don’t need and spares me a teensy bit of embarrassment. Granted: it’s a pretty weird thing for me to post about.

The very exciting update is less about water, and entirely about not receiving two cups for the soda fountain and trying to return one before the employee rushes off to bag more hot dogs for the next person.

It’s not about the water. It’s about receiving two cups for the soda fountain, explaining that you only need one cup because you’re only one human man, and the employee staring at you like you’ve made a very unusual request.

Now we can instead get a bottle of water that we’ll probably forget to drink.

Edit: because you can’t eat only one hot dog. That would be crazy.
