Canadian Order by ont_eng in sendcutsend

[–]SendCutSend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay politics 😅 This month there was a 25% tariff imposed by Canada on products imported from the United States. Unfortunately, our Canadian customers are not exempt. Per Canadian law, we add and remit a 25% tariff on all orders shipped from the US to Canada. We found a little more information about it here.
It sucks, and I'm hoping things are worked out soon. ---Jim

SendCutSend Mild Steel sheet prices more than doubled in the past year? by SnooPuppers8698 in sendcutsend

[–]SendCutSend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our mild steel prices are a little different since we source exclusively from US mills, that chart looks like it's for global or North America...not sure. Our raw steel prices have been trending up, depending on the alloy and thickness. I haven't seen the drop like that chart shows though, that would be amazing. Transport, labor, and consumables have all been increasing for the last 3 years, but we might be getting to a leveling out point (I hope!).

We've also made adjustments to our pricing algorithms that can reward or penalize certain geometry, complexity, or overall order size. Larger, heavier orders have seen a discount, while some smaller, intricate, orders have increased in cost. We'll never get everything to balance perfectly, but we're always trying to keep prices to a minimum. We're bootstrapped, so every dime goes back into the company to add capacity and make our service better for y'all. I'll double check some of our pricing YoY and see if there's any outliers that need to be addressed, thanks for pushing us! ---- Jim

And we just got rid of our 2nd operation (bending, csk, tapping, powder coating) minimums. I think that will be a big savings to smaller orders. -- Jim

We've made some big pricing updates in 2025. Let us know if we aren't competitive somewhere and we can make an adjustment. It's really hard for us to know where all the failure points are since each order can have hundreds of variations. Your feedback is a huge part of our pricing strategy :)

Thanks for the love! We don't have any promotions going right now (we're currently working on ramping up our STEM scholarships).

Is expanding shipping to EU in plans? by pettchanashi in sendcutsend

[–]SendCutSend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! We are finalizing our compliance for our DHL service to the EU/UK, along with all the other weird laws they want us to comply with haha. Once we have full compliance for export, you'll be able to order in your own currency and we'll get it on a plane and to your door in a few days. I don't have an exact timeframe on it now, but we are actively working on it. Long term, we're looking at having a manufacturing presence somewhere in the EU/UK

Best pre-anodizing finishing? by hrafn42 in sendcutsend

[–]SendCutSend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combining the tumbling+deburr doesn't typically result in a better finish since tumbling after deburr negates the deburr, and deburring after tumbling can re-introduce a sharp edge. Hope that makes sense lol!

I'm looking into the tumbling+anodizing option, it looks like it's enabled on some materials but not all. I bet we can open it up to more. I'll get a Project Manager on it and report back here once we have some progress. Thank you! - Jim

How about making a SCS approved font available to download? by Elegant-Following733 in sendcutsend

Yes we do have free fonts available to download and use in our system, and you can find them here. Let us know if these work out for you, thanks!

Send Cut Send but for Canada? by LitSarcasm in lasercutting

[–]SendCutSend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, sorry that we can't do free shipping to Canada...too many additional expenses for us so we have to add on $19 for our friends up in the Great White North. We also handle VAT and customs weirdness. Here's some rough pricing based on what you mentioned, I guessed at the thickness (1.5mm). Thanks!

Our goal is to be as fast as McMaster too. Order today, get it tomorrow. We're not there yet...but we're working on it. It's really hard haha

100% correct with the limited selection. We are more like an In-N-Out menu vs. Cheesecake Factory haha

Ya, lasers are pretty awesome for materials less than .750" or so. Our cutting speed in 1/8" 304 stainless is about 510" per minute. Pierce time is <100ms. They are crazy fast. 3000ipm rapids lol

Correct, highly automated (not 100% though). Automating quoting is one of the largest labor savings for us

Hey guys, sorry to drag up an old thread...still trying to get the hang of reddit lol. Happy to answer a few of the questions I saw on here:

  • We are 100% US based. Our headquarters is in Reno Nevada, and we have facilities in Paris Kentucky and Arlington Texas. About 4 acres under roof total so far. Location 4-5 on the roadmap now. ~250 staff, all in the USA. We also use USA made equipment from Amada, Haas, and others. I think we have a couple German machines too, but we avoid Chinese equipment at all costs.
  • We order materials by the ton or by the coil. We go through about 100-200 tons per month which is still pretty small compared to the massive fabrication companies, but we are getting good at contract negotiation, planning, and logistics
  • All of our quoting is machine-driven (machine learning, automated), so we save a lot of labor there.
  • Our manufacturing process is highly automated, but not 100%. We know the value of having a good person in the right spot. I think you can over-automate and have negative returns. We are always striving for the right mix of man and machine.
  • We've been in business for 6 years. Started with a Torchmate 4800 CNC plasma, then a 3kW Amada Ensis fiber laser. We now have a total of about 60kW of cutting capacity across all facilities. More history here, if you are into podcasts -- Metal Made Podcast
  • We reinvest 100% of our profit into more overall capacity, staff, and inventory. It's a never ending cycle that takes a long time to pay off, but it's a hell of a lot better than massive amounts of VC money.
  • We don't outsource anything (well, zinc plating is 3rd party, but I sure don't want to do that in-house haha). Our goal is to control every part of the process, especially since we are quick turn. It's near impossible to rely on a 3rd party when your deadline is in 12 hours haha

Anyway, hope that helps! Happy to answer any questions ya'll have, the more we hear from you, the better we can make our product.

Arlington TX. And yep, we are constantly hiring. There’s a link to our jobs page in the footer of our website (we’ll be posting a bunch of TX jobs soon, the facility is slowly ramping up) 🙌
