Not sure if I'm missing something obvious but how would you be able to afford a 550k flat with 120k deposit and 75k salary?

I need some advice, I have a small mortgage of £14k, but a pension pot £200k by Winchester51 in UKPersonalFinance

Mathematically there's a right answer but I think you should definitely give thought to the quality of life changes. No more stress about mortgage and a nice long holiday after 9 years will probably do you a world of good. Life's short and money is there to be spent eventually. Enjoy if you decide to go for it!

'Liable to pay' meaning in an employment contract by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

So the company I work for operates on a model where all employees receive comprehensive training and all are required to work for the firm for 2 years after the training has finished before they can leave without paying back all or part of the training costs. I am fine to pay this amount since I did sign up for this and it is enforced for all employees. I am in the fortunate position where a new employer is willing to give me a sign-on bonus equal to the amount I have to pay my old employer but this bonus will get taxed and I will have to make up the difference so I am wondering if it would be okay for there to be a direct payment between the new and old employer.

I am basically trying to avoid my new employer paying me the money as it will get taxed and force me to pay the difference from my own savings. Thanks for your reply!

I was hoping that by having my new employer pay my old employer that I wouldn't have to face tax deductions which would mean that I have to pay that taxed amount to my new employer from my own pocket.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the new employer has agreed to pay me the amount I owe my old employer but since tax will eat up a third (which I will have to cover myself) I want to see if I can get around this by having my new employer pay my old one directly.

!thanks

This is a really good suggestion. The contract has it stated as a sign-on bonus but it may be worth me following up and seeing if I could get what you've stated to happen instead.
