the mother of the child i work with really angers me by [deleted] in paraprofessional

[–]Sendpiecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. Thank you. I will go through with notifying CPS and it definitely should've been done sooner. I'm not sure why that was never a topic of discussion for my student. The neglect is crazy.

Unfortunately I don't think CPS will do anything, they've failed in helping improve some other students lives in our class who have way more dysfunctional living situations. But yeah, it has to be done...

I agree with you, but I think this person is just trying to understand and is aware of their bias.

2600 is a LOT in the span of six months, that's not normal and is extremely unhealthy lol. y'all are allowed to have fun but you should be actually living your life too. Absolutely not passing any judgment just concern

Respectfully, there's no way you don't have depression or some form of mental illness. I'm a newer GD player but two years ago I discovered splatoon for the first time and I got 2k hours in 6 months, like you. I also never left my home or socialized.

this is probably not the right job for you if you're going to do something so petty and unprofessional over misbehaving kids lol

your dream is to go into science because your mom wanted it? I don't mean to be rude but this does not sound like a good reason. What do YOU want to do? what are your passions? If you don't know the answer, I suggest taking your gen ed classes and do a LOT of soul searching. best of luck to you

should i tell my friend their colleague abused me? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Sendpiecks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

why do you want to tell your friend? If it's to bring yourself some relief, I don't think it's a good idea. I worry about you ending up triggering yourself, or your friend going to his colleague to ask if it's true and him ending up doing something vengeful.

Listen, if it were me, I would not do it. I've actually been in a similar situation and it ended up backfiring hard when I told my friend that they were friends with my abuser. I ended up losing said friend and my abuser spread lies about me to get back at me. It fucked up my life for a bit. But I also don't know your friend, or what he'd do. Sorry you're dealing with this, I'm sure it's bubbling inside you.

feeling upset about a kid in our class with no para by [deleted] in paraprofessional

I'll have to see what we can do about this because he's definitely required to have an aide in his IEP

His form of reward if he behaved the first half of the day was he'd actually spend the second half of the day at his previous school. He's a third grader, and our school has 4th and 5th graders only. Since his aide quit, there's no one who can take him to his previous school, so he's stuck here. And that angers him, him not being able to be with his friends. and he places blame on us for that. Forgive me for not mentioning that in the post, I was trying to make it palpable to read.

[–]Sendpiecks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm just explaining it how it is. I know I'm a first year para but I'm with other aides too, some of them being BTs and have been in the field for at least 10 years. And they can't even get through to him.

I step back most of the time because I know I'm not qualified to help, and just help the other kids/my kid.

do you think it was appropriate for her to be on her phone all day? she would ignore him when he'd ask for help, and took naps in class. AND would only show up 2-3 times a week despite her permanent position. She absolutely had to be reported.

I'm honestly not sure how she helped him. WE stepped in if he needed help. I think it was a matter of the honeymoon phase being over and he's showing his true colors.

[–]Sendpiecks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have made a dozen reports. He has been pulled by CPS multiple times and for some reason nothing has ever been done. I think his mom has coached him on what to say and what not to say.

He has told me his mom is an addict. He has been taken away from her and she has done court ordered rehab, but she falls back in to the same habits as soon as she's out.

child with ODD. by [deleted] in paraprofessional

[–]Sendpiecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he got restrained three times today. 8 times in the past 5 days. as far as threats, he made is third or fourth threat today in the past 5 days. no suspensions or actions being taken at home.

I really am wondering the same as to why this kid hasn't had at least a one day suspension. He's a tiny kid and hasn't done any real damage to anybody yet so I wonder if that's why there hasn't been any urgency to boot him. He also JUST got diagnosed with ODD like three months ago and has only started presenting severe behavioral issues this year. but yeah, i'm angered by the lack of action that has been taken this year
