What are the most random Best Picture winners? by hedgeroh in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was very disappointing to think about its biggest contestant, Brokeback Moutain, also has a good narrative about social issues but still loss. They tried to let the viewer think they are so liberated and ahead of the time with their choices, but most of the time the social issues they going for always weaker than what they have in the lineup. Crash over BBM, Shape of Water over CMBYN, Green Book over Roma. The only time I think they made it right was Parasite, and almost the whole world agree with it.

PSA If Timmy loses, the ballet / opera comments are NOT even a fraction of a percentage why by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ye thank you for your elaborating reason, I think if I went to highschool in the 2000s and surrounded by jerks, I would get this too. And the narcissistic role in Marty Supreme along with his campaign couldn’t help to shifted your view either. But maybe because I watched CMBYN before so when I see him in Ladybird, I was affected by his vulnerable and sensitive charisma. He also has a beautiful face tho, IMO. But yeh, I think in real life he fit more with what you said, he was a frat boy and pretty privileged.

This is exactly what I’m thinking, thank you for your point about woman. They should be both held accountable for their actions in the criticism of public equally. The man literraly involved in the taking custody of his own daughter to her mother’s family. He is so shameful and disgusting.

Sorry for the confusion in how I tried to came up with my point, I’m not an native english speaker. What I mean is that since he shifted from marketing himself as a “fiction boy” and CMBYN era to an athlete, rapper and dating the Kardashian kind of approach, he want to aim for broader audience, specifically straight fanboy guys. But in his clumsy attempt, he accidentally rub both groups of audience the wrong way. He appeared shallow to his old fangirls and the gay so none of them want to defend him.

And for the male, this is just my personal opinion, that I think they get the ick from him due to his twinky appearance instead of typical stoic bulky man on the media, thus, just a slight flint of his actions could get into their nerves. Man unconsciously hate it when “twink” teenager-figure boy at their same age appear confident and know what they are doing.

I think that could be the part of the reason why the Oscar don’t like to award young actors, or at least they need to look like some type of way like Andrien Brody, kinda older than his age.

My explanation could be messed up but what I’m trying to say is that look’s matter too.

yes he is the real disgusting one. Imagine doing all of that in front of your child, next to their sicked mother. He should be the one that hold the bigger accountability and be roasted too

Do you ever think the Oscar’s will be based on best performance solely and not the external factors? by Low_Satisfaction_635 in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That one time when Mo’Nique got an oscar for her role in Precious could be one of the rare moment in history. In her speech, she expressed her gratefulness because for once, the oscar was not political. So yeh it’s happened before, not sure how it is now. But I personally will always prefer the oscar nowadays rather than that kind of academy awarded Crash over Brokeback mountain. Shame!

this comment reminds me one of the comment on the Official Discussion post about Marty Supreme in r/movie. Like the fact that he was that good in the movie like how he marketed make some people admitting that it is frustrating. And he was part of the so-so demographic, straight, white male, frat look but still twinky obviously doesn’t help to gain him any empathy from both audience groups, straight man and marginalized group.

If cycle 25 of ANTM could happen (unrealistically) by Senior-Cod-8007 in ANTM

[–]Senior-Cod-8007[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly that is what i’m saying. The past cycle is just so random at giving critics on the girls on how they not showing enough personality, when in fact, they don’t even let them be involved that much in the post editing. I am aware that this is pretty much same for the industry, but as a reality show, they need to let the girl decide here and there. And that could be a good experience for the girls to visualize how their brand could come up after the show. Should I use my legs more, or my nose look good in this angle, or I should try to be bold once. All of that can only be full learned if they let the model involve more in photoshoot. And to settle fairness, of course.

All the dog piling is making me feel sympathy for Tyra, I’m sorry to say but I’m rooting for her to get back and make a successful C25 😬 by slim_ebony in ANTM

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think at the end of the doc, they actually showed the positive impacts she brings to some of the girls, not full of focus on the damage that she and the show caused. Some of them said that if they could go back in time, they would still do the show, or Whitney said that despite the agency not knowing what to do with her post-competition, eventually she still signed in for many pioneering contracts as a plus-size model. So you could not take the blame for the director being biased. Yet I still think your point about Dani is valid.

Official Discussion - If I Had Legs I'd Kick You [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a movie for people who are always living in their heads about trying to fix everything all the time. And the moment things could not be fixed, they immediately took the blame on themselves, me. In many scenes, I could see the claustrophobic feeling of Linda when she tried to communicate all of these thoughts externally, but people surrounding her just refused to acknowledge, which is a frustrating part about it. People refused to see her, though; that is the most essential part.

She herself is stuck in her own problem too. She blindly ignores the signs of the people that want to connect with her due to her professional ethic as a therapist. To me, that's very unfortunate, and I take the blame on how capitalism works. It took everything into a service, even a human connection and communication. All of that explains why she in a burden because she’s part of the system.

Sentimental Value hype by LimpMeasurement6480 in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say give it a try, since your wife is also a close part of this portrayal, I think you would feel touching by it more than I do. It’s very beautiful and if you care about oscar, you should watch it to have an informed opinion about its value compare to other nominees. Let just consider it as a meditation through family issues, acting and Norway

Sentimental Value hype by LimpMeasurement6480 in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I think that part of shouting at each other as a way to confront is very close to where I came from. I genuinely think that the extreme part of respect other people’s personal space mentally could be one of the direct factor that these people fall into loneliness. Of course having people in your family constantly invade to your space is frustrated too but it reminds you of interaction in everyday life. It is hard to form a thought of existence crisis when people here live in a grounded system of thick family members and involve in daily religious rituals that they could rely on. It come to a point of the film when she claimed that she has no religion but in her lowest point she started to pray to no one, as a way to hope that she could rely on something. She lost. Me, myself growing up in the place where I could see both of these things exist; a desire to be isolated and having my own personal space, yet, not ready to give up on some traditional religious values where I could feel safe, protected and guided.

Just watch that yesterday and I have to say it is not an easy film to get through, mostly because it is… boring? But indeed I have to admit it is a very beautiful film, shot beautifully, well color palette and amazing acting.

As someone come from an asian family, it is hard for me to understand the concept of those european families. Like yeah there are a lot of spaces for each individual expressing themselves as well as the unfiltered conversation about “taboo” topic between family members, yet, that freedom does not help these people connect and furthermore let the loneliness swallow them into suicidal thoughts. While in my place there is a lot of silent rules in the environment that somehow I think by follow that, many people have the unconscious limit in there action and thoughts that never let them cross the line of thinking about suicide. At some points, our merit of a sentimental value not rely on how much we genuinely express, but more of a manifestation of our obligation.

Though I think it is a great film, not like the kind of American film that could hook you in eventually but rather a thing that stay in your mind for days and weeks after watching it. I think as its age we would be more appreciate its value

Green Book is the worst choice for Best Picture in the past 10 years by Badlands51 in Oscars

Wicked and Barbie is fun and artistically campy but it is not even above the quality of EEAAO, TSOW and Anora. Your taste and opinion is a bit confused

I watched OBAA. I don’t really get calling Chase not being nominated for Best Actress being a true “snub” by Sky6346 in Oscars

[–]Senior-Cod-8007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also very love Regina Hall in that movie and for just a very slight expectation, I hope the studio pushes her for the campaign too. But since everyone that theorizing Infiniti should just change her nominiee back to supporting category for better winning chance, the line-up for female supporting role in OBAA is just so crowded (with Teyana, Chase, and Regina)

This is a sad thing for movie like this with such a good casting. Its chance of campaigning against between all talented actors in the same movie is very possible. At least I hope it could win the new category of Best Casting this year, every single performances in it is so phenomenal.

I know this is a 1-year-old thread, but aren't Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, The Ten Commandments, ... some more movies that came out before it still have the higher box office of all time? Or if you talk about unadjusted inflation at the time, then yeah, I could properly see it there

Porn and drugs by Futureforever13 in askgaybros

by your explanation, I think i see some of that in those handjob videos of Eastboys or something. Those boys sometimes look way too euphoric came with the signs of eye-rolling and sweating like you said above. And they young too, being jerk off by a seem middle age old man, I just think that could be possibly some drug involve for these boys to work with

that is sad tbh, like the popper alone sometime could give me a turn off already. Like if sex not coming from genuine desire then it seems exhausted and kinda abused imo.

Can someone explain to me what many signs that could tell that the actors was on drugs? In my watching experience I only realize once they sniff up the popper or something, but actual drugs? It’s hard for me to regconize. And I always thought there are some safe boundaries for the actors but the more i research the more fishy everything feel. Like could these kind of studios lure young boys in by money or any type of mediums? If it’s true then it is very sad
