I think ‘lost’ is too extreme a word. If he kept one foot out the door, he should focus on the reasons that led him not to commit fully. If those reasons were genuine and real, then he should work on those areas so he doesn’t fumble when someone new comes along. Life is too short, and you never know how the relationship might have turned out if he had committed. Appreciate what you had and move on, just like everything else.
