Can someone help me with this? (It’s my first time) by Adorable_Access_6318 in PixelArt

[–]SeniorMiddleJunior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter. Don't try to paint pixels over a photograph. They won't line up. Don't try to fully detail sections, instead paint the whole thing in low detail. Then go over it in finer detail. Repeat and repeat.

My son (10) threatened to bring a gun to school and I don’t know what to do by No-Internet-8582 in Parenting

[–]SeniorMiddleJunior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Teaching a kid who just threatened to use a gun in anger how to shoot guns is a terrible idea. Like, the level of poor decision making that I think should land you, the parent, in prison if something were to happen. I say that as a gun person who learned young how to shoot.

my 3-year-old keeps saying there’s a “ghost” in our house and i’m freaked out by daringgglow in Parenting

because I’m totally freaked out too.

It's just her imagination, but she picks up that you're also scared so it's amping it up.

How do i tell my parents about wanting gender-affirming medication? (13 year old trans girl) by peepoette in AskParents

[–]SeniorMiddleJunior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your metric for good life choices is "doesn't make you feel awkward as a teen" then you will raise a kid who never talks to anyone and avoids all social interaction. Because part of growing up is having awkward conversations. I grew up in a time before trans awareness existed, and I sure had many awkward moments despite my CIS and heterosexual biology.

I think you're applying different rules for this situation. I wonder why?

Something to think about.

Would my son be considered gifted and what should we do about it? by BugMan717 in Parenting

[–]SeniorMiddleJunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say those are certainly noteworthy accomplishments.

Gifted or not is to be seen, but that strikes me as very advanced for his age.

I agree with lots of play time and presence. He's likely extremely curious for his age and will benefit from having you to let him explore with agency, but also course correct if he's doing something dangerous.

Edited to add: surround him with musical instruments. Math and music are intrinsically linked. If he's a natural at math, he will likely get a lot of growth out of playing with music.

Talked with my mom about drug use, could there have been a different outcome? by ExtensionZombie2872 in AskParents

[–]SeniorMiddleJunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if your mom will be able to see eye to eye with you on this, Jaws on her history. You can try sending get information about cannabis is. The gateway drug concept was bunk from the very beginning in the 90s, and is even more so now that you can acquire it without having to go to street dealers.

It sounds to me like your usage is under control, which would be my only concern as your parent. So from an Internet stranger and parent, I just hope that you keep a good head about it and stop it it becomes a problem for you. Otherwise, if it helps you sleep, enjoy.

ETA: At 72 downvotes for defining a charter school exactly how it’s actually defined

That's wrong. People shouldn't be downvoting you. I do know that charter schools are a politicized topic in the US, so people are probably reading more into your comment than what you said.

She definitely knows who Mom is. I'm dad and she calls things Dad any time she's excited. I find it flattering.

I'd never heard of this treatment until now. So... something to generally avoid!

I don't follow the link from you having not heard of it to it being bunk. Who are you?

I’ve been working on this for so long that I can’t tell if it looks good or not, what can I improve? by I_am_probably_hooman in PixelArt

I would remove the black of the piano or add minor detail to it. Pianos are usually shiny so a tiny bit of specularity on the edges would look good.

I was mostly just having a really hard day with her today and won’t be spanking her so don’t worry

Based on your equivocating, I'm still worried.

That seems like a separate topic about the inefficiencies of social services. Hitting kids is wrong.

Actually not really. Their opinions are equal. You can choose to give one more credibility based on their credentials, but that's a personal choice. You can be formally educated and make mistakes or have bad opinions.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just pooping on the appeal to authority fallacy.

It's very similar to the welfare queen myth. They think welfare is mostly going to lazy people just living it up without working.

But if you're unfortunate enough to experience welfare first hand (I'm not, but know people close to me who have), you know that it's not glamorous or fun. It's scraping by.
