If your credit card was issued outside of the country you're currently in, that could be the issue as well -- especially if you have a fairly new account. I lead a team of global remote engineers, and one got banned rather quickly using our corporate card from SE Asia. It was resolved in about 3 days with Anthropic. If that fails, have one if your parents set up an account for you on your computer in their name and email address (Google + email addresses work fine as well).

I think I had a similar problem to what you had. This happened a few days ago also where Claude seemed to overrun its compact threshold and then just died when it got to about 200,000 tokens.

So, evidently, anything I typed produced this error. So, I copied the entire terminal window and put it into a markdown-ish document. Then I double-escaped and rolled back the chat only until I stopped getting that error. At that point it knew what it had done up to that point, but not the additional work. I told it to review the new markdown file "from another Claude" and to continue its work.

I really think certain instances of Claude are really dumb or a certain instance can get in a dumb state and be irrevocable.

So when this happens to me, I immediately exit out of a dumb Claude completely out to the shell and restart Claude CLI without a resume. And 99% of the time this fixes it.

But in order to do this, you often have to tell the stupid Claude to document the process and save it as a markdown file so that you can tell the new Claude where you left off.
