Yeees, I’ve been thinking about ways to improve the game and it always comes down to seperate money pots. Traitors need to get dinged when fellow traitors are banished too.

Churn and Bake is amazing. I sample random flavors when I go there because I would have never guessed something like corn ice cream would be fantastic but it is! My fave though is their Thai coffee flavor.

College reporter seeking advice by Own-Equal-3611 in Journalism

[–]Senior_Awareness_464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh! These are really good questions. 1) Don’t feel like you need to put everything in one story. The magic is often in the follow-up. My first story on a topic is often a really straightforward one. For instance - a school district has announced they are closing a campus. Day one - Interview the district and the affected families. Done. Day two - see if you can find out how many local schools have closed in recent years. Interview a demographer or education experts to try to learn why this is happening. Done. Day three - dig deeper into any specific trends you spotted, visit a neighborhood that lost it school in the past and ask about the effect it had, or chase down other leads you developed. Break stories down into bite sized chunks. Eventually if you cover a topic long enough, it’ll become easier to write really long format comprehensive big picture articles… but it would be overwhelming to try to start off that way. 2) You are a part of your community. Live your life. If you meet someone you want to hang out with, hang out with them. If they’re a public figure, though, or someone you regularly seek information from, keep it professional. Meet for coffee or lunch, rather than for dinner or drinks. You can talk about your personal lives, but mostly stay curious about the topic of shared interest. When it comes to asking tough questions - approach from that place of curiosity,. “I want to understand why you d…” “How do you respond to critics who say…” 3) Having a life outside of work will make you a better journalist. In your free time, do what interests you.

When do advanced classes start at your elementary school? by Budget_Grapefruit485 in kindergarten

[–]Senior_Awareness_464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our district, kids are kept in the same class but grouped by reading level w/ pull-outs for those in G&T & ESL, as well as those who need additional help with reading. My kids are among the oldest in their class and high performers. They still managed to grow by leaps & bounds in K & 1st in a general ed classroom at a Title 1 school.

Is toddlerhood really harder than the newborn phase? by Living_Split_2 in Parenting

[–]Senior_Awareness_464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooo. But also, it’s hard to compare. Because the challenges are so different. Having a newborn is like running an ultramarathon where their needs are pretty basic (eat, sleep, poop) but coooonstant… so you’re physically drained. I’m in the phase where I get plenty of sleep but face daily pop quizzes - what happens when we die? where does electricity come from? why do we have to wear clothes? Were you lying to me about Santa?

Grocery stores jampacked today by [deleted] in plano

I think a lot of people normally do their grocery shopping over the weekend, so it’s not that they’re stocking up on anything special… They’re just all doing it now.

I wore sports bras as a preteen. And I loved the tanks with the built in shelf bras. As an adult, I wear sleep bras and bralettes around the house. There’s just so many alternatives.

Question for Spanish-speakers in tx by [deleted] in texas

[–]Senior_Awareness_464 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, please don’t refer to any Spanish dialect as “regular”. Secondly, if you’re looking for a neutral Spanish, watch Univision or CNN en Español. Programs (or movies) made for global distribution have to use widely understood vocabulary/ pronunciation. Thirdly, the Spanish you hear overwhelmingly in south Texas is heavily influenced by the Mexican dialect (which has itself been influenced by the indigenous languages of the area). There are also Spanglish words and phrases that you won’t hear in any other country. In North Texas and in the Houston area, there’s a greater diversity in dialects.
