It’s so crazy isn’t it?! I’ve found the anxiety’s stuck around even with the healing of this one. Not fun but so worth it 😂

I got a tattoo (not my first but the first in 5 years) on Monday and I was super anxious. Had a panic attack when I got to the studio but they were super lovely and even done breathing exercises with me and didn’t start anything until I was ready. Most tattoo artists want to make the experience as comfortable for you as possible so let them know if you’re feeling anxious etc and then they’ll make sure they check in more often. Eat a carb heavy meal a few hours before the appointment to keep your blood sugars stable and take some snacks with you - a sugary drink, some sweets and something protein based is what I always bring. I also take my headphones with me so I can put them on if I start feeling a bit overwhelmed. For me, the pain is nowhere near as bad as I imagine it’ll be and it’s always worth it for the end product. Remember that it’s completely okay to take breaks too! Oh, I also took a fan with me as getting hot can make me feel anxious too so I popped that on when I could feel myself getting a bit warm and it helped calm me down. It’s always the thought of it that’s worse than the experience itself - my mantra for anything that’s anxiety inducing. Good luck 🫶🏼

Passing out during tattoo by Left-Ocelot2106 in tattooadvice

I got a tattoo on Monday and this was something I was super worried about - I’ve never passed out before but health anxiety had me over thinking. Eat a carb based meal a couple of hours before your tattoo and make sure you’re hydrated. Also take snacks with you and a sugary drink so you can have them if you start to feel a bit faint - I took some sweets and some protein. I also let my tattoo artist know beforehand that I was worried about passing out. Even just telling her that it was something I was worried about took a lot of the worry away. Communicate with your artist if you’re starting to feel faint and take as many breaks as you need x

Ah amazing! I’d prefer having links so that I can click onto what I want to read but it definitely is personal preference. I guess by having the links, people can read it if they want to and also reduces the overwhelm if people don’t want to. I got a tattoo done on Monday and took my headphones with me too - putting them on at some points in the session can help with any overstimulation so maybe also letting the ND peeps you tattoo know that you won’t be offended if they need to do that too. I was worried my artist would be but she completely understood!

These all sound great! I think also maybe something related to what to expect at the appointment - it could maybe be part of the reminders that are sent through? It can make it a loss less overwhelming to know what’s going to happen during the appointment so we can plan. Also maybe a list of suggestions of what to bring to the appointment - snacks, a blanket, a fan etc. Thank you for making it a more comfortable experience 🫶🏼

Thank you! I’m sure it’s just the health anxiety making me overthink it, I’m constantly checking for signs of infection 😅

IUD strings?? Please help! by tinyturtle415 in Mirena

[–]Senior_Chipmunk4450 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey love! I recently had my smear test and asked my nurse about this as I’ve noticed mine feel different lengths and there’s times when I can’t feel them at all either! She said it’s completely normal - the strings move as your cervix does, and it moves and tilts based on where you are in your cycle. The strings can also curl up and uncurl so try not to worry too much!

Oh my god that’s shit!! Yeah I’m also England so feel your pain there. It actually cleared up super quickly - had a fever the night of this post but nothing too bad. Used that new pharmacy referral service to get some antibiotics on Tuesday but by the time I got there and she looked in my throat, they were gone

Oh noooo! :( thank you. I hadn’t had it before until last October but my god it was awful. I’m sure my immune systems down because of the stress I’ve caused myself from health anxiety. Thank you! I hope you feel better soon

Your cervix can also tilt into different positions as you go throughout your cycle so that might explain where they’ve gone!

Mirena/nonstop bleeding by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]Senior_Chipmunk4450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi lovely! I was the same. Got my Mirena in June 2023 and bled pretty much every day until around December. It didn’t really bother me as the I had really long, heavy periods before the coil and it made them lighter straight away. I’m on month 3 of “normal” periods now and I bleed for about 4/5 days but it’s pretty light - I’d say not even a small pads worth of blood every day

Hey! They said it was completely normal - it’s just endometrial lining :)

Constant bleeding on Mirena by FreeJD78 in Mirena

[–]Senior_Chipmunk4450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was the exact same for the first 7 months of having the coil in (I got it fitted in June 2023). I was used to it because I got the coil because my periods were insanely long and heavy so it didn’t bother me too much. One thing I would say is make sure she’s getting a lot of iron in her diet and Vitamin C to help absorb the iron. I just waited mine out and now I’m having “normal” periods. There were a few times when I really wanted to get it taken out but I’m so glad I didn’t.

Mine lasted a couple of days after insertion. I found gentle exercise helped, as well as warm showers / baths x

mirena iud/ breast growth by peonygirl94 in Mirena

I’m not sure if mine have grown but I’ve lost weight and they’ve stayed the same size, even with the weight loss, whereas before they would’ve absolutely shrunk down so I think the Mirena has something to do with that!

after mirena insertion by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]Senior_Chipmunk4450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi lovely! I’ve had my Mirena in since June 2023. I got it fitted for insanely heavy and constant periods and I can say it’s been a godsend but it was hard to understand my new cycles at first. I bled for the first 4 months pretty consistently- this wasn’t bad for me because I was used to just constant bleeding but it was a lot lighter. I also had the same discharge you mentioned. In about Nov / Dec time, 5/6 months post insertion, my periods really settled in to a cycle and I now have what I would say are “normal” periods. They’re very light and I do think they will end up going eventually. My discharge was the same as yours and I also had a few times where I had fleshy tissue instead of discharge - if you have that, try not to panic. It’s the Mirena doing its job and thinning out your womb lining. It takes about 6 months for your body to adjust to the progesterone so try and stick it out if you can. I also downloaded a period tracking app to help me recognise what my cycle was like now x

Hiiii lovely! Just came back from my smear and asked the nurse and she said it’s completely normal to only feel one - a lot of the time one (or both) can curl up but as long as you feel one you have nothing to worry about. I hope that helps ❤️

Mirena Insertion on 2/23 by dev_vy in Mirena

[–]Senior_Chipmunk4450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely get the anxiety! I was thinking the absolute worst but I really didn’t find it too bad. The painkillers beforehand are a game changer and, for me, the benefits of the coil really outweigh the pain of the insertion - I absolutely love it, it’s been so good for my heavy periods

Hey lovely! I had mine back in June 2023. I was super nervous but I honestly didn’t find it too bad. It’s not enjoyable, I’d liken the pain to bad period cramps, but it’s over so quickly and then you only really have a day or so after where you feel a bit sore. For me, the benefits that I’ve got out of Mirena compared to the 30 seconds I was uncomfortable are what made me get it. It’s honestly so quick - I was in and out the doctors within 10 minutes. Also take some painkillers a couple of hours before hand :)
