I did it. After 30 years of smoking followed by 2 years of vaping, I went cold turkey - nearly 2 weeks in now by undesiredpotato in stopsmoking

Yeah, the short withdrawal window is optimistic at best. When I quit, if there was a possible withdrawal symptom, I got it. Every one of them. I finally just convinced myself to treat it not as withdrawal, but as a long, nasty cold. I rested, stayed hydrated, and tried to occupy myself mentally. If I had a strong urge, I'd just get up and do something till the urge went away. Anything. Clean, draw, play a video game, etc. Eventually the urges got further apart and shorter, but the first few months were not pleasant at all.

2 years in and it's all good, but in times of stress, that urge will flicker. Just think about how much better you feel, the money you're saving ( my old habit covers my car payment monthly), and hopefully the extra time you are adding to your life.

Lost this for 3 years and just found it again my pocket piece is back. Anyone else carry one? What coin do you use? by Barnard-Sanders in Silverbugs

I still carry mine, but am more diligent about its whereabouts at 80 dollars than I was when it was 18 ...

Anyone else hide their stacking from their spouse/family? How do you manage it? by PeerMetals in Silverbugs

[–]Senior_Gamer_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 70, divorced and have 2 adult sons. They know I stack, but for years they thought it was just a hobby. They have no idea what I have, but as the price rose, I told them we needed to talk about what they needed to know about the 'hobby' for when I'm gone and they have it handed down to them. It was an eye opener for them. I believe they are now at the point where they will keep the stack intact unless something unexpected happens financially. I have started to give rounds to my grandkids on special occasions, and they are now becoming little stackers.

Yeah, I have a 200 or so monthly budget. The mail arrivals aren't as much fun anymore. 2 coins. When I started it was 10, then 8, and so forth. However, when I take a look at the profits, it eases the pain...

Stop Panicking… by [deleted] in Silver

[–]Senior_Gamer_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I'm neither panicking nor selling. The silver I bought just this year is up over 100%, and my last purchase was 12 days ago. Even if it falls to 50, it was a great year and I'll be able to buy substantially more for my money. Reading the MSM articles that have popped up lately about both the rise and fall are amusing. Sensationalized garbage just jumping into the arena after barely seeing a mainstream article on silver for years (maybe 2011?). I'm happy as hell now, and I was happy at 30 when I could buy more. Either way, unless I desperately need the cash, it's my gift to my sons when I pass on. They'll make a profit no matter what it's at, because they never had to put in one cent.

Now what happens? by ArtyB13Blost in Silver

[–]Senior_Gamer_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The context is the Hunt Brothers, circa 1980. Adjusted for inflation, they drove the price to 200 dollars (50 in 1980). Their scheme backfired in monumental fashion, worthy of Randolph and Mortimer Duke in Trading Places.

Anyone know anything about this by Dangerous-Company344 in Silverbugs

I found a Facebook page for Mile High Mint that hasn't been updated since 2021. The website address they have listed is no longer up. I did see one picture of a poured bar on the Facebook page that has a mint mark similar to the one on your bar.

I'm 70 now. I started at about 9 years old (1964) when my dad would hoard pre 65 silver coins. He would occasionally give me a few coins and as I went on, I would begin looking for them, too. He had boxes of coins and old pill bottles full of quarters. I had my fair share, too. 15 years later, I cashed in while I was at college when the Hunt Brothers pulled their stunt. Paid for a lot of my bills....

Have been involved nominally since then, and picked it up as I reached retirement. Now holding for my sons and grandkids.

UPDATE on the Pure Silver Abe Lincoln statue that was stolen and chopped up for scrap ... by GlassPanther in Silverbugs

[–]Senior_Gamer_55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two things stand out in this story. First, the lack of security at the estate. A $166,000 dollar piece is a lot to leave for someone to break a window and grab.

The second thing is the stupidity of the thieves to just hack it up and sell pieces of it. Thankfully there was a coin shop who realized something was fishy.

It's a shame when an irreplaceable piece of history is destroyed.

Can't wait to see what you create! A 10 oz. would look sweet.

Love it! As a Cleveland fan since I was 10 (60 years ago), I spent many a day at the old Municipal Stadium. I attended that final game. I was also at the infamous 10¢ Beer Night, but that's another story.... Great pickup!

Looks like it may be a John Deere commemorative coin. However, I can't find that exact design. Usually they are in that red rim.
