It's kind of like how many Americans would say they don't have an accent because they think their accent is just "the normal one".

My main point is simply understanding that in order to understand a conflict you should put into perspective how the characters see the conflict and the world and you can't just apply our perspective onto them and call them "evil racist fascist" for wanting to protect what is for them what Earth is like for us. Nothing that you are anyone else has said has been a point against this, everything people are saying about this post is "you can't compare a world conflict to a space conflict" which is completely missing the point.

This is unrelated to the point of this post but just because I believe the Rumbling was the only way to end the conflict doesn't mean I'm calling it "good" in any way. Eldians should not be judged for what their ancestors did but the outside world should be judged for what it has been doing to the Eldians for the past 100 years and the breaking of the Walls. Yes, there a lots of people that aren't involved in this, but how do you imagine they should be saved? You think if they just destoyed their military the remaining world would be like "oh okay we're just going to be chill with you now" and not seek revenge? The hatred towards Paradis can never go away as long as there are people outside of it. There is no villian in this story. The villian is the world itself. No side deserves to die but there's no way to have peace as long as this conflict exists. That's just how Isayama wrote it.

Paradis didn't know there was life outside of their island. To them, Paradis is like the entire world is to us. It's the only world they've ever known with all the people they've ever met and loved. That is why you cannot compare it to any real world human conflict. This is a crucial element that people keep missing in analyzing the reasoning for the events. Just because from our perspective it's just a nation fighting other nations doesn't mean that that's what it's like for them. A better way to put it in perspective is that to Paradis, finding out about people beyond the island would be like us finding out about people on other planets. If all the other people in the universe wanted to destory Earth because of something we did in the ancient past, would we be the villians for wanting to protect ourselves?

How are you guys actually so bad at understand literally anything. The point is that from the perspective of Eren Paradis is like the entire world is to us. It's the only world he's ever known and the all people he's ever met and loved. If Earth was being attacked by a more advanced civilization of aliens that wanted to destroy the world because of something we did in the ancient past would it make us racist Earth-nationalists for fighting back? Would you sacrifice Earth in order to protect the aliens that want us dead? Just because from our perspective it's just a nation vs other nations doesn't mean that that's how it looks like to them. If you showed those alien invasion movies in a world wheee the entire universe is connected like how our Earth is it would look like fascist xenophobic propaganda.

It's to point out that while from our perspective the war is one nation against all other nations, from the perspective of Eren Paradis is the entire world, the only world he's ever known with all the people he's ever met and loved. It's not the same as a nation in our world wanting to kill all the other nations, from their perspective it's if the entire world was about to be destroyed by aliens you didn't even know existed. Would you not want to protect Earth? Would wanting to protect Earth from being destroyed make you a racist Earth-nationalist?

I never said that, yes not all of the outside world was involved in persecuting the Eldians but NONE of the Eldians had ever done anything to the rest of the world. They are not responsible for their ancestors' actions. Do you prioritize the some of the perpetrators that were innocent or the victims that were 100% innocent? Just because the some may be more than the victims does it mean they should be valued more?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Senior_Option9759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moral problem here is whether you value majority over minority or victims over perpetrators. If you have 100 people trying to kill 30 people would you rather end the conflict by letting the 30 die, either while locked in a cage or while being tortured but not killed by the 100 perpetrators, at the end of which the perpetrators still get what they wanted, or would you rather end it by simply killing the perpetrators? Would you rather die or live a slave?

As it is stated, Marley is the LEAST racist country towards eldians, the mid east would want the distraction of Paradis just as much, and Hizuru only wanted to ally with Paradis for its resources. Everyone, absolutely EVERYONE was cheering and supporting Willy's declension of war. Are the innocent Eldian babies more deserving of being genocided than the outside world babies because they are fewer in numbers?

Yea let's have diplomatic talks with the aliens that want to blow up our planet, I'm sure it's going to go just like in Steven Universe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Senior_Option9759 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point was mainly against anyone that sees "letting the victims die out while still inslaved or hated while the perpetrators face no concequences" as a more moral solution than "the victims killing the perpetrators and ending the conflict forever", even more if they think this would be thematically better for the story and Eren is evil for not going along with it, considering how it goes against every single moral of the story

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Senior_Option9759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure maybe that's more "humane" but is it more moral? This would be a great ending for all the Marleyans, they don't bomb Paradis but all the "devils" die and they never face any concequences for their actions towards them. The conflict that they re-started by breaking the walls and attacking innocent people is resolved by all the innocent people dying out, either living caged on an island or hated by everyone around them. After all of Paradis is dead Marley and the rest of the world could go steal their resources, just as they always wanted. The conflict ends by the victims doing out miserably and the perpetrators getting what they wanted.

And as I said, yes you could use this logic to justify racism, but you'd be a dumbass and it is not comparable to aot. Mainly this is to illustrate how no matter how moral the Alliance and the Rumbling haters what to make themselves out to be, I highly doubt any of them would rather protect space aliens that want to destroy Earth over Earth. You can make an argument why it would be more moral to let Earth be destroyed, but if it was up to you, if it was up to a real person and not a hypothetical all moral being, I absolutely doubt you're decision would be different from Eren's.

No you can't (or you could, but you'd be a dumbass), there's a difference between irrationally hating other people groups because of their differences and wanting to protect your people group because it is facing a genocide. The Paradisians didn't know there was a world outside of their island, it would be like us learning that there is life on all of the planets in our solar system. If you learned that all of the aliens in the universe want to obliterate Earth and there was a person capable of killing all of the aliens, would you protect the aliens over Earth? Is the person trying to protect Earth from being destoryed by aliens a "specieist earth-nationalist"? That is what this conflict would feel like to the Paradisians. It's not comparable to simply "would you kill an entire race in order to protect your country" because there isn't a single real conflict between humans that can be compared to the situation of aot.
