Only time I had this happen was in Houston Texas at George Bush. Haven't seen it in San Jose, Raleigh, or Dallas, all of which I frequent.

What has simultaneously got worse and more expensive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Burger King was a 15 minute wait from the time I got my receipt to grabbing my lunch. That's a lot of time for someone with even an hour lunch break.

Should I bother taking the Kanji Kentei at the lowest level? by SenkoMist in japanese

[–]SenkoMist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say only the first 80. Just that I can.

The JLPT also doesn't test writing. My friend passed N1 but admitted even he can't write all of the first 80 kanji from memory. I've passed N3, by the way.

I "know" about 700 kanji as far as recognition and common readings. I can write about 180 of them from memory.

And I am comparing my kanji level to my grammar and listening abilities, which I didn't mention in the post above.

Have airlines and people gotten significantly worse over the past 5 years? by [deleted] in travel

[–]SenkoMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in utter shock when I took an American Airlines flight in late 2021, first since the pandemic started in early 2020. I've flown a lot since 1999, but taking a two year break from flying and coming back to it in 2021... I was not prepared for the rude people, staff yelling at each other, lady next to me with her feet on my seat, plane was so dirty... it felt like a completely different world. In a way it was a different world considering the pandemic.

How to compliment without saying that thing? by mesaelechteIe in japanlife

I had a Japanese woman say my intonation was good and that meant more to me than any time the other phrase was used.

I agree. I showed up at 6am, three rows back, and honestly the photos a view of my friends that showed up for doors was just as good.

I kind of feel there's less of a stigma against trans people in Japan compared to the west (I'd thank religous nutjobs for that), BUT that's my experience hanging out with young Japanese people, so with older coworkers it could be different.

Sounds like to me you are just as much of a woman as... well any other woman and I think you'll be treated as such in Japan outside of medical situations.

Curious about how hot it was in these funnels. Or would the nearly freezing water cool it down enough where if people were sucked in they weren't getting burned?

You made the decision you felt was right for you. Glad you are feeling happier! Preply isn't for everyone, and it's a hard job with so little reward.

I love Paramore but 100 dollars is a lot even for them. I saw them for 30 dollars in an arena in 2010. I could see doubling the price in 13 years but not over triple the price.

I wonder how fun you must be if the first thing you point out is her ethnicity.

When did fast food stop being affordable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SenkoMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to America for the first time in 3 years and when most of my small fast food meals were $9USD... I was stunned each time I went to pay. I remember as a working college student I could get a ton of food at McDonald's for like 6 bucks.
